    • Yes, good for a short/local/interstate trip.
When date do you need to activate it by (ie to get the 5GB)?

      • Can be Unlocked for around $10 (if going os and using 850/1900/2100 3G networks)
        see https://www.dc-unlocker.com/supported_models_1/zte

(sim expires December 2014 on the one i got the other day at coles)
but don't know how you will go getting the 5gb if you don't activate till then ;)

  • I grabbed one of these today, been to 3 Coles and they are all out of stock. DSE are out of stock in the city (Perth) but have a few in Armadale.

    • hope you asked coles for a raincheck :)

      • why bothers?order online via DSE and delivered to you in 1-2 days, save the hassle

        • save extra 5% via discounted coles gift card or ing orange everyday :)

  • Can i connect this to a desktop PC that does not has wifi?

    • no…

(but if you are handy its easy enough to add a wireless card to the PC (did mine for under $20 yumcha brand ;))

    • yeh quick googling says this unit is WIFI only and cant be used as a USB modem , so I'm on the lookout for the Pocketpro one instead

  • Wonder if this will take the Aldi sim seeing as they use the telstra network or doesn't it work that way?

    • Damn wished i had tested mine on Aldi before Unlocking…oh well maybe i will buy another for shits and giggles haha.

    • Yeah I was wondering this too but with Kogan mobile?

The one I got from Coles is reported as unlock out of the box by dc-unlocker.

      • I got one from Coles the other day too.
How do you check with dc-unlocker? I downloaded it and it says it can't detect modem.
I don't have to buy credits right?

        • +1

i used windows 8 and had issues…admin rights on windows 7 works fine -source WPool)

EDIT : don't buy credits till modem tells you its locked or not

        • Thanks for the prompt reply!

          SIM Lock status : unlocked

I will try testing a Kogan and Virgin sim tomorrow and see if it is indeed unlocked.

        • Just tested a Vodafone sim at work and it didn't work :(
Realised my Kogan sim is at home so gotta go back to test that tonight, but judging from the other comments it shouldn't be a problem which should open the door for Aldi sim users too.

        • Final update, as confirmed by bng99 below, worked without a problem with my Kogan sim.

    • +2

ive used mine with kogan no issues

havent even looked into unlocking with dc unlocker etc
i just swapped the telstra sim with kogan one, and voila, works a treat

  • thanks for posting this, was thinking of getting one from Coles but seem like the Coles deal expiring today….

the DSE deal seem great for $0.50 more delivered

  • Is this modem locked to Telstra ?

    • supposed to be locked but as we have been discussing not all are…

  • anyway not too many wifi modems in this pricepoint and around $10 to unlock…

  • +1

The DSE description doesn't explicitly mention 5gb included, whereas in some of their other modems it mentions xxgb for xx days. Can anyone confirm that it will definitely come with the 5 gb ?

Don't mean to be paranoid….. Cheers

Aldi sim works in the telstra 3g wifi modem just checked and am using it now

    Aldi recharge options looks like

    Pay as you go

    $15 or $30 (365 day) 5c/MB

    Unlimited pack
    has 5GB $35 (30days)

    Data Bolt on
    2GB $15 (30days)

    • Is that with the device locked or unlocked?

  • locked

  • Wouldnt a android phone with tethering optin be just as good as this wifi dedicated device?

    • Not if you already have a wifi modem and don't have an Android phone… :D

The battery in these lasts longer and the connections are generally a little more robust. Also an Android will kill the hotspot if there's no traffic after <15 minutes. Plus you can use dedicated data plans in these, which are often cheaper. Not big issues to be sure.

      • Cool thanks cuase i got an old android that can tether so not going to buy this as well.

        Thanks
