  • Usually dispatched within 1 - 2 months.

Sure, Amazon usually dispatches things earlier, but that's potentially a very long time to wait. :)

    • Has crucial officially released them for retail?

    • Are they even available from the manufacturer for shipping? I know Amazon have pre orders for upcoming items.

    • +1

you can buy it now and cancel the order later if you find it cheaper
Amazon only charge your credit card just before they ship the product
This way you guarantee the price just incase they increase it , which they will probably do when its released (seems like a common practice with Amazon)

  • I've had responses back from 2 other amazon sellers selling this same product who have both confirmed that it is 480gb and has been advertised incorrectly, I reckon the amazon rep is wrong. Best to get a response direct from the seller.

John Paul:Thank you for contacting Amazon.co.uk Chat. My name is John Paul and I'll be happy to help you. May I please know who I'm chatting with?

      Me:hi John

John Paul:Hello, how can I help you today?

Me:regarding the crucial 960GB SSD listed here Click here , in the item technical details it lists the model number as CT480M500SSD1 which is the 480GB model. If i buy it from amazon will i get the 960GB or the 480GB

John Paul:May I please ask for a moment to check on the item?

      Me:sure

John Paul:After looking into the "Crucial CT960M500SSD1 2.5-inch 960GB M500 SATA 6Gb/s Internal Solid State Drive" that is priced at 455.53 GBP, I can confirm that the Hard Drive Size of this is 960 GB.

      Me:Thanks Paul

      • You have the link for ALB, you need the link for Amazon - http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00BQ8RHJ2/ref=ox_sc_act_…

        • its in the post as a shortened link

        • why not just edit the pic link it'll go direct to the correct item to avoid confusion.

        • BC it automatically reverts it back to that one, something about how the system is setup

      • But you ask about CT480M500SSD1
        He responds about CT960M500SSD1

        Which are entirely different models.

Doesn't sound like a good response to me. You can't pretend he said CT480M500SSD1 is 960gb, because he didn't. When it all goes wrong, it won't hold water.

        Am I missing something?

Edit: Having said that, other people are indicating street price of $600 from other sources, so hopefully it's correct.

        • +1

screen shot of the email i got from him later confirming its the 960GB model

          http://i47.tinypic.com/2i6h213.jpg

Feel free to chat with them to confirm yourself (All live chats are recorded so you are protected if they screw up your order later) using this link

        • He's again getting the specifications for the CT960M500SSD1 which I don't think is in dispute by anyone. Until they fix up the model number on the listing, I would be skeptical.

Worse case you are entitled to a refund since the listing is wrong. Something doesn't line up, either the capacity or the model number. I don't think the REP has really answered the intended question.

        • It seems like you have never bought anything from Amazon, am i right.

They have made errors with me on 3 orders before and each time they would refund me and tell me to keep the item or donate it to charity.

If they send you the wrong drive after telling you it was the right drive, they would refund you right away, no questions asked, even though the SSD is still with you.

If you still have doubt, 3 minutes of your time with live chat to confirm its the right drive and the conversation is recorded on your account for future reference.

But the RRP that they have listed is consistent with the retail pricing of the M500 960GB.

        • I've bought plenty from Amazon…my comment clearly states "worse case you are entitled to a refund since the listing is wrong"

fair enough … all good then

ALso got this email from amazon as a follow up from the conversation:

      Screen Shot http://i47.tinypic.com/2i6h213.jpg

      Hello,

This is a follow up email to the previous chat conversation we had with regard to the "Crucial CT960M500SSD1 2.5-inch 960GB M500 SATA 6Gb/s Internal Solid State Drive" that you are interested in purchasing.

After looking into the item, I can confirm that the size of the Hard Drive is 960 GB.

I hope this helps. We value your business and we look forward to seeing you again soon at Amazon.co.uk.

      Warmest regards,
      John Paul

      • It must be divine intervention he's getting his information from above

  • How does this work? It's listed as 450 pounds.

After VAT is deducted from total

      Order summary
      Items: £379.61
      Postage & Packing: £11.23
      Total before VAT: £390.84
      VAT: £0.00
      Order Total: £390.84

      After exchange rate 391 GBP = ~ $575

      • Ah rightio well that makes sense. I'll have to wait for that other seller to return my money first though haha.

  • Weird no one is voting for this deal

The price error one got > 70 votes

This is the real deal and only $10 extra

    • maybe I have a big fanbase ;) either that or everyone is asleep

      • lol maybe you do , i reckon its the username

  • For some reason I couldn't pre order via referral here so I had to use someone else's from hotukdeal.com
Hard to tell how much of a deal it actually is since its not actually released yet is it?

    • Choose Amazon.co.uk as seller from list (last seller) and click "add to basket" (button on the far right)

This is listed at Crucial US now, with shipping and using a fee free card price is converted to around $602 AU.
    http://www.crucial.com/store/listmodule/SSD/~983040524288491520M500m4~/list.html

    • Well in that case I expect prices to probably end up cheaper than this UK price soon enough so I'll be cancelling this order and waiting to see something better.

      • The Prices wont drop for the first couple of months

The benefit from buying from Amazon, is that if you ever need to send the drive back for warranty, Amazon will pay for shipping both ways and will be responsible for replacing it for you

If they cant replace it in a timely manner, they will refund the full amount for you

With crucial, you would probably end up with a refurbished drive if it ever needs to be replaced

        • +1

I wont be buying from Crucial, I am using their listed price as high point.
I expect other retailers will sell it much cheaper than Crucials retail.
The Amazon price is ok for a pre order but I am going to see what others sell it for if Crucial is only AU$602 delivered.
Might see it for AU$550 from some of the regular crucial sellers we see here.
I'd be crazy not to wait and see what happens when everyone has stock.

  • Fit it a MacBook Pro?

    • Depends on your model. Newer models have a proprietary interface (not sata).
Use crucial website to determine if its compatible. There is a scan my system link on this page:
      http://www.crucial.com/store/ssd.aspx

      • -1

I don't think it's gonna fit as the height is 19mm. The usual HD is 9.5mm and the maximum it will barely fit is 12.5mm.

Got exited for a bit then realised it won't fit my MBP :(

        • Ignore this info, it is 7mm with 9.5mm adapter. Wow impressive.

  • +1

Where'd you get 19mm from?! This says 7mm(plus 9.5mm adapter), so it'll fit:
    http://www.crucial.com/pdf/productFlyer/ProductFlyer-letter_…

That's if you have a MacBook Pro, MacBook Pro Retina will not fit.

    • Ah, I think 13 x 1.9 x 13cm Amazon quotes is the box dimensions, scroll down a bit and Crucial says 2.5" 7mm (with 9.5mm adapter).

      • yeah my bad :) wow now I'm tempted.

  • What kind of MLC? I hope it's not TLC.

    • +1

well definitely some sort of TLA.

  • It's a crazy amount of storage. Will anyone be using it all up without dumping their media and downloads onto it?

    Also, what is its thickness?

    • $574 SSD for dump storage? Yikes, I'm in the wrong job. Is your place hiring?

      • Well I didn't think people would need this much space without dump storage, so I was just asking if anyone will? Maybe someone who plays shedloads of games and never uninstalls them?

        • or Full HD video editing/encoding , photo editing, graphic designing etc

    • My 256MB is running out… Basically I have:

SSD = OS + any games I am currently playing for insane load times (many 20GB these days).
      HDD = Media

At any one time I could be playing say 5 games.

  • Photo editing is the big one that this drive can help with, but will the photos make you money to pay off this investment, not for me.

  • I'm an architect, and using modelling programs on a SSD would make a big difference.

Also, photo, film, graphic and music editing speed can be improved.

The thing is, this product is not a 'crucial' (get it?) investment. There are many existing SSDs which have less storage, but run at the same IOPS (input/output operations per second) peak, about 80,000 per second. Standard HDDs run at about 100-200 peaked.

This new SSD apparently has a new 'sleep mode' which basically means that your battery is not having to supply more physical strain in powering the internal hardware.

    This review might help:
    http://benchmarkreviews.com/index.php?option=com_content&tas…

I don't really need this. If it were $300, I would, and that's for someone who uses high-memory programs.

Looks like performance is down from some of the better drives out there, but that 960gb deal is still awesome if you need a big drive. I would still like one very much.

    perfect complement

maybe 1hr of footage in raw. enough.

  • +2

I see that this has now been updated by Amazon to reflect a 480gb drive size in the title, and in the hard disk size section in product info.

I wonder what this will mean for all of the people who placed orders when it was listed as a 960gb drive.

    • Yup, the Amazon product code (ASIN) for this now refers to the 480GB version (entering the product code on Amazon.com as well as Amazon.co.uk brings up the 480GB version: http://www.amazon.com/o/ASIN/B00BQ8RHJ2).

Glad I held off. Those who did order might want to check the 'Your Orders' sections of Amazon to see if its changed to the 480GB version there. Orders can be cancelled before they ship, and credit cards only get charged when they ship.

  • Might as well be moved to the forum like the other pricing error thread.

  • Pricing Error unfortuantely. Had to cancel my order.

    • Did you get an email stating it was an error? Mine was just dispatched and the email still says 960gb not 480gb.
