Winter is coming! Goose Down Quilt needed!!

Hey guys, Winter is coming and I am looking for a Goose Down Quilt. I am not so sure how it works but the higher the feather percentage the better right?

Are there any good places or online website that anyone can recommend where I can get one? I am looking at a Queen Size Goose Down Quilt. Good quality and not so expensive around the price range of around 100-250 would be awesome!

I stay in Melbourne CBD so delivery should be cheap or hopefully free :)

thanks heaps!

  • its generally

    1. the higher the down percentage = warmer
    2. what down it is made from matters (gooses will differ)
    3. how much in the fill
    4. construction of quilt (panel, box etc)

In my opinion unless you plan to really spend some dollars there is not terribly much difference between what's on offer (as long as you buy from a reputable place).

I would start your reasearch with places like quiltpillowfactory.com.au/

Alternatively if you feel adventurous you could look at purchasing from Japan, which in my opinion has some of the more warm/comfortable quilts on offer.

That and iceland.. but you need at least a grand (yes $1000+) for them :(

  • Wait until Target has a special - every year they have a 50% off special for down/feather quilts and they're quite good. I've had both a 100% goose down (from Target) and a 70/30 mix of down and feather (from Myer). The 100% down is really good and I could even leave it on the bed at the start of summer as it kind of regulated the temperature.

Having said that, the down/feather quilt has been really good too - nice and warm in winter, but halfway through Spring it's way too hot. So I would recommend either 100% down or a down/feather mix with a high percentage of down.

Also make sure the quilt is stitched in sections, otherwise you'll wake up with all the filling down one end. I don't think they make them like that anymore, but it's worth mentioning just in case coz I had one like that as a kid and it was the worst :)

  • any idea when the sales might be and the price range??

  • Actually my quilt is one in vertical sections, so I can use it all year round by shaking the down to the bottom.

    But that's unusual.

Good luck in your hunt btw ..

  • hey guys,

    wondering if this is good

am looking at around queen size and I live in Melbourne :)

    • That looks fine but if you wait for a sale Target will be cheaper. I bought Target's 100% duck down (not as good as goose down) which was $99 for a queen on sale, they also had goose down which was I think $150.

ETA - I got mine when Target had 50% off, not 30% off as they currently do, and prices may have gone up a little too as I bought mine 2 years ago.

      • thanks for that! any idea roughly when that may happen?

        • Probably at the END of winter when they are trying to clear them out. 30% off now is probably as good as you are going to get. (Can't be certain though)

  • hey guys, has anyone used Ikea Quilts before?

    looking at this one… maybe?
