    Yah, it will avoid warranty, because Apple treat Phone unit minus battery and back cover as "BAND", so replacing BAND from Apple factory require original component (well if you iphone's motherboard is dead in this case, you still need to given original screen assembly), unless repair using original iphone screen assembly.

  $55 is a fair price for screen replacement for iPhone 4/4s. if using good screen

  Now, screen price is from $17 to $40 depends on the quality, and I am quite sure the $50 repair place (like the Caribbean Garden Market in Melbourne ) are using bad screens…. You get what you paid for.
