    • I managed to find a Breaking Bad box set in store and put it on lay buy, ready to take advantage of the offer on Saturday :D Just drop by or call your local BigW to confirm stock!

  • +3

Just checked, Big W can't lay-buy & then match the % off offer on the day. Slack!

    • Yeah this sucks. Also for things only available online there is no way to order it in and get the discount ;(

  • +1

I'm hoping to pickup Wreck it Ralph blu-ray for $17 on saturday. I'm fortunate my local Big W actually has an adequate selection of blu-rays on the shelves. That's the case until the end of this saturday of course when they'll be all gone.

  • Anyone know if you can lay-buy the discounted BRD's on Saturday?

    • Few messages up by sgcrema. You can't layby the discounted price. It will be buy outright at the checkout deal.

      • deleted comment… saw it was answered below!

      • You'll still be able to layby on the day. I think sgcrema meant he wants to layby what he wants now, and then get them on Saturday at the reduced price.

  • Yeah my first msg was that you can't go in today, laybuy at normal price, then pick up on Saturday at discounted price. Although you can do this if there's a permanent price change, just not for 1 day % off offers.

2nd msg was, can you lay-buy on a % off offer day, at the % off price..

    Cheers!

    • Oh sorry my bad so you maybe could layby on saturday and get the 50% off price?. That's excellent. I might layby a few blu-rays on saturday then.

      • Nah, I said we CAN'T go in on Saturday & lay buy at 50% off either…
        :(

        • +1

Really what a bummer. How lame of Big W.

          1. Layby
          2. Cancel
          3. Buy
          4. ?????
          5. Profit
  • What about credit card price protection insurance?

    • What about it?
Are you asking if you can buy it now and then claim the difference from your credit card company when the sale goes on? If so, I don't see why not.

  • -5

Just in case they might be sold out, best bet purchase all of them now, the. Then on the day tell them to refund the differnce from the promotion, and wham score! You have all the blurays u wanted with the 50% and everyone's happy.

    • +2

tell them to refund the differnce

You could even go out of your way and be polite - you might actually get what you want then.

      • +1

Unless you're at EB, then it's pointless.

  • +1

Checking some Blu-Rays on there website and all I have checked so far have Available Online Only. Does this mean they wont have in store at all or just a website thing?

    • +1

My local store doesn't stock half of the stuff people are getting excited about. I'd be checking out the store during the week before stalking them at 7am on Saturday.

      • Best way forward would be to preselect your bluerays instore and to place them somewhere else in the store for retrievel on the day.

        • Yes, the better half and myself have already thought of what to get and where to hide them :P

  • +1

Called a few stores before they closed, was told the Star Wars saga bluray isn't in stock in store. Weird.

  • +3

I'm not super excited. I might toddle and get one or two Disney (which aren't often discounted - and with still enough time to claim on Disney Rewards before the 13th) but let's face it - BigW stock levels and range isn't exactly stellar. Also, not sure about anyone else's local BigW but mine stopped putting prices on things and most Blu Rays went back up to RRP. So a Blu Ray that was once $24-26, is now suddenly $32-36 and they want to give me 50% off? ooooooo! >.>

  • hmmmm this is very strange.. not a single blu-ray I've looked at on the site can chosen for 'Shop in Store' option. What's up with that??

    http://www.bigw.com.au/bigw/navigation/navigation_results_ga…

Maybe should revoke positive until the day????

    • I believe it is because they ship Blurays directly from the distributor, not from a Big W warehouse.

  • The best 50 movies of Warner Bro's on Blu-Ray… $ 199.975

    http://www.bigw.com.au/entertainment/dvds-blu-ray/action-adv…

    Just sayin!

    • +1

Looked it up - already have 12 of the 50 :( Also, I thought it was 199 and then down to 99.. but it's 400 down to 200!! Still $4 per bluray, which is good value… probably a really good way to get someone started on their bluray collection. I wonder what collection looks this looks like in real life..

  • +1

yeh the blu rays are expensive at Big w ….. there are probably a couple of winners but nothing that wont be cheaper at JB's in a few months. If you need for Christmas maybe but otherwise I'd wait.

  • +5

The Simpsons Movie Big W 50% off price : $19.92
buy before Thursday from JBHifi 20% off price : $15.19
    Doh

  • +7

Pricing for the Star Wars box set is going back up to $118 tomorrow, so will be $59 on Saturday - still a great price, but not as big an OZBargain as the potential $40.

    • +3

How convenient. Take note of your prices people, and lets see if they make price increases in anticipation of this sale.

    • Inside information?

    • Yeah, so it's still $80, hence $40 tomorrow.

  • +1

Had a look at my local big w to see if there was anything good…they don't have much of a range.

  • I was eying off this sale for Disney Blu Rays but I just noticed that JB's is running a Disney sale atm - http://www.jbhifionline.com.au/dvd/dvds-on-sale/disney-3d-on…

While it's a '3D sale', many of the Blu Rays are triple play and are coming in at less than the BigW RRP minus 50% off. You should compare individual titles.

Worth a look if anyone is after Disney (and especially triple play options).

  • Pricing still at $80, one store said she didn't think the deal was for box sets, another has confirmed that it will be $40 on Saturday - I guess it is a try your luck on the day type scenario!

  • +2

This deal was advertised on the TV tonight - good luck everyone.

  • Wow this 3D Bluray is already 50% off ;-)

  • darn no Big W in the city Pyrmont area :-(

  • -1

i'm gona buy some ps4 games

    • +2

I know it says all blurays no exceptions but I think you might be taking this a little too far.
I highly doubt they'd 50% off something so new let alone PS3 and Xbox one games. Although you do have a point those are all "bluray discs"

      • +2

the flyer i have says Blu Ray Movies not Blu Rays

  • +3

Sale has just started at Big W Kawana. Just scored Breaking Bad for $74, Oblivion for $10 and Mad Men Season 5 for $14. Don't know about other stores. There are a couple of Star Wars box sets still marked at $80 so you could probably get them for $40. Good luck!

    • +1

argh to stores breaking sales dates.
thanks for being good enough to let others know though.

    • Big W Kawana is Breaking Bad(literally!)

    • got the invoice? i rang that store to check and they said they not have them on sale

  • I can confirm it has started. Was just in the Lilydale store. Staff weren't even aware until I bought a heap. Happy hunting everyone!

    • shouldn't this stores all be closed now? Mine says they stat open till 5:30 on a friday.

  • I hope that they have this sale again… can't make it tmr…

  • Star wars box set scans at $59 for me…

    • +1

Second report I've seen of that price, at $40 I was definetly in, at $59 I'm undecided.
Don't suppose you happen to notice how much Man of Steel 2D version was scanning at?

  • If this isn't going to be online is that an exception ?? The catalogue is on their website and doesn't say in store only and clearly say NO EXVEPTIONS so if its not online I would say that false advertising !

  • Can also confirm the sale has started,in South Australia.

  • Went to the Garden City store to see what they had and decide if it was worth queuing up in the morning. Scanned a few and turns out they were already half price. This was at about 4:30PM.

Somehow I managed to misplace my receipt already but I think I remember most of the prices:

    The Hobbit - $12
Star Wars Saga - $50-something, probably $59 like someone else reported.
Breaking Bad Box Set - $74
Avatar 3D - was about $15 or $17, they also had the 2D version for $9
    Rocky Anthology - $20
    Aladdin - $19
    Great Gatsby - $9-something
    Great Gatsby (original) - $7-something
Aliens boxset (no AVP) was around $17-ish
A couple of 3D documentaries for under $10 ea

They had roughly 4x Star Wars sets left, they were behind the counter.
I think I got the last Breaking Bad, I didn't see any more in the cabinet where staff got it from.

Didn't buy but Fast and Furious 6 movie set was marked at $88 so would come to $44 for all 6 movies.

    • Fast furious 6 movies is scanning at $39 alien anthology is a bargain at $17

  • Prices I can report:
    Django: $9.98
    Hobbit 3D: $14.00
    Little Mermaid: $19.00
    Jungle Book: $19.00
    Mary Poppins: $9.98
    Wizard of Oz 3D: $12.00
    World's End: $17.00
    Little Mermaid 3D: $24.00
    Man of Steel 3D: $22.00
Monty Python Holy Trinity Box Set: $14.00

    • +1

My man of steel scanned at $14 it's in a slip and marked bluray 3d + bluray + ultraviolet

      • Down to $6 online for the Blu-ray/DVD/UV

  • Wolverine 2 pack $22

  • Forest Hill (VIC) is cheap but Eastland (VIC) was selective titles.

  • +1

How are people getting different prices for the same movie?

    • +1

      tell me about it!

      • +1

I was surprised myself I assume different sku's by the way if anyone wants Man of Steel don't bother with Big W midland I got the only one unless they have more out the back.

      • Stud ;)

  • Breaking Bad would not scan at half price but others were. Had to get a manager involved and I nearly didn't get it! Glad I went against my better judgement and raced down now to get it. Last copy in the cabinet. The lady who served me cracked the shits because I was mentioning how the Blu-Ray section has been heavily decreased and she was denying it. I know for a fact that there was more shelf presence days ago. Oh well I don't care. I got BB :D

This is at Ballarat Big W. No more BB there, sorry. Plenty of everything else though.

EDIT: I thought it was funny that one of the reasons I nearly didn't get BB was because it didn't scan at the half price and they thought the sale only applied to single releases. How much plainer does NO EXCLUSIONS need to be for these staff to understand? Sigh…

  • Sale started at Canberra Centre store. Late night shopping on Friday nights in the ACT comes in handy sometimes :)

    • ahh so thats how you guys are doing it. Late night shopping is Thursday around the gold coast. How long do things stay open till over there? Things close at 9pm AEDT over here. Why Friday over there? Do pensioners get paid on Friday there? Because that's why late shopping is thursday here.

      • ACT has late night shopping on Fri (til 9pm AEDT) instead of Thurs. No idea why.

        • Anything good left in Civic?

Was going to head in tomorrow morning.

        • Shelves were fully stocked. I bought:

          Tudors $42
          Battleship $7.98
          A few good men $4.48
          Ted $7.98
          Gatsby $9.50
          Pacific Rim $19
Fast and furious 6 collection $39

      • +2

3 hour time difference here so was able to after work also a lot of the big w's here are open till 9pm on weekdays anyhow.

  • 1/2 price including new release such as the croods?

    • +1

No exceptions. Although it does sound like they may have pulled stock to avoid selling stuff they don't want to.

      • agree….have not seen a copy of skyfall at big w and a few other titles to boot.

        • Pretty sure I saw 1 copy of skyfall tonight

  • Skyfall and Croods (2d and 3d versions) were both available tonight in wangaratta, vic when I stocked up.
Went in looking for what I wanted tomorrow and found they were already discounted!

  • Just checked their website, can't see anything 50% off, anyone have the correct link?

  • +2

Sale is online, we can order without having to go to the store. This is the reward of not sleeping on Ozbargain ;)

  • "Minimum Order Value Required - A minimum order value of $40 is required for Click & Collect orders"

  • +1

    Just bought online:
    - The The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey (BD/DVD/UltraViolet) $14 (was $28)
    - Man of Steel (2013) (Blu-ray/DVD/UV) $6 (was $24)
    - Entourage: The Complete Collection (18 Discs) (Blu-ray) $49 (was $98)

    Total: $69 (Click & Collect) (saved $81)

I may have got the last copy of The Hobbit and Man of Steel online - both pages are now unavailable

    • both still showing in stock for me

  • I couldn't complete the Click & Collect checkout using Safari (got stuck on Step 2). I had to finish my order on my iPad.

  • +1

Star Trek: Into Darkness - $4.99
    Dark Knight Rises - $4.99

    • Huh, was showing up as $10 for me in-store

  • +1

Just finished ordering. Took me 1.5 hours to order and look. $374 in total.

    Including:

Breaking Bad Complete, Weeds S1, Arrow S1, Under the Dome S1, Entourage Complete, Big Bang 1-5, Man of Steel 3D, The Paperboy, Pokemon Movie 14, Spartacus War of the Damned (Season 3)

There was SO much more I wanted that is not on special. This includes The Simpsons, Bones and many movies. Some movies are out of stock. I noticed Weeds is now not even on the website. Approximately 120 titles from Bluray is gone - they mustn't be restocking these.

I was disappointed in the lack of a Harry Potter complete collection.

  • Dangit, The Hobbit statue set went out of stock as I was checking out. Did manage to order Dexter Final Season for $24, and Man Of Steel 3D for $7.

    • I picked up one of the Hobbit statue sets :)

  • Just wondering what estimated date people are getting for Click & Collect? Mine was 24/12/2013. Decided to spend the extra $5 and get it delivered instead.

    • +1

Same - also figured Click & Collect was risky if it is based on in-store stock levels which will be completely plundered today.
