      • I like checking it in settings instead of apps. I want as few apps installed as possible.

        • BlackBerry 10 does this and even allows you to set a limit.
When comparing with my carriers app. It's pretty spot on.

But that's not really a choice for most these days. You get more for your money - tech wise with android phones like these

    • +1

No, That is not true…. She doesn't have a clue…

Even that's really the case (even it's impossible), I recommend her to use MY DATA MANAGER.

    • +1

The data usage monitor is fine, it is different to the stock data usage monitor though. It is found in the "Security" app. Much more options and extra detail than stock. Can definitely see the separate WiFi and Mobile data (there is no option to combine). If you don't like it there are other apps to choose from. (RN3P MIUI7)

  • Out of stock already? It's saying in stock notice…

  • -4

Why is everyone so keen on grey import?

I thought grey import is bad.

    • +5

You won't find it locally that's why.

    • +3

If you're referring to the comments above I think you'll find people are referring grey as in the colour as opposed to the import.

    • +1

It's only "bad" from the point of view that you aren't covered by ACL (Australian consumer law).

YMMV but personally I cannot see the point of paying a large premium to have something akin to insurance on items that are less than a few thousand dollars generally speaking.

This is because if you do it every time you buy something let's say you save 20% compared to buying locally and having ACL apply. Personally I've only had a handful of items ever break that I needed to return including all the local and grey import purchases. The cost of replacing this handful is nowhere near being close to 20% of what I paid for everything.

So what's the point of paying 20% extra … over time periods of years this is thousands of dollars lost. Of course not every item is the same etc. but generally speaking IMO ACL coverage is nice to have but not worth much.

      • +1

All until if you grey imported a LG G4. Then you will know why grey import is no good when things break.

    • Grey means no 2 year warranty and not easy if anything went wrong.
My opinion if the faulty rate is low enough then it totally worth it!
Got 4 grey imports since GS3 and all still behave.

      • Same as you until I got LG G4. Only lasted 8 months before it bootloop

      • Where do you buy?
I got my LG G4 from qd_au and they provide 12 months local warranty. Well not really local but all you need to do is to post it to its Sydney office and they will handle the rest.(sending it back to LG Taiwan). Comes back fully repaired, turnover is about a month. Not bad for grey import!

        • Sent mine off to QD yesterday.
Expecting 6-8 weeks minimum. I've read other members on threads stating close to 3 months.
Message from QD informs to expect long delays.

Did you get the spare battery and charger sent also?

        • @albanyson:

No, just the original battery and back cover.

        • @poporange630:
I've read on various threads on here, some members have said LG have also sent out a spare battery and charger. Some have mentioned it's arrived after.

        • @poporange630:
Maybe QD-AU customers don't get those.
I can't recall now if those that mentioned the extra battery and charger were bought from other suppliers.

        • +1

Even when it returns it will happen again. It will bootloop even when repaired. Bootloop is not repairable on G4

        • @neonlight:
Yes, I've heard that. Other members have also said its happened after as well.
Unfortunately, your right. As much I hate to hear it.
LG failed miserably with the reliability of the phone. It's otherwise great phone, specs wise.

By time I get it back, 12 month warranty will be over.

Kogan have been offering refunds. If I took a punt on another grey importer phone, Kogan would be considered. (Based on their handling of the LG G4 fiasco)

        • My G4 took just over 8 weeks to be repaired. Qd_au included a battery pack when they returned it. A nice gesture but I wasn't happy about the turnaround time which I understood was from LG's end.

  • Hi

Are the "Grey" and "Dark Grey" the same grey?

Do they both have the black front face?

    Thanks

    • I suspect Dark Grey imports are from more dubious parts of the world but am also interested to know

  • @Clear
Damn , only just saw the post .. Missed out .. I hope you can do a deal on the grey one on Monday..

  • no packge B for this offer? i.e. screen and case?

how to choose dhl? only free shipping option (answered on top - dont use paypal checkout)

now waiting for package B answer

  • I've already bought one, but just realized did we need to request the bootloader to be unlocked if we wanted to install custom ROMS in the future?. Under purchasing tips it mentions that, or does Geekbuying unlock the bootloader?

    • +2

make a MIUI account and put in a request.
      http://en.miui.com/unlock/

i just said i wanted to flash custom roms on it, and was buying from australia

got the unlock in a few days.

one thing to mention - some of these come with custom / vendor ROMs. there were reports of spyware / added bloat. not sure if the spyware is real or not, but can see no reason to stay with the non-official roms, as they don't get OTA updates.

finally - some of the offical ROMs (think i was using global stable) get stuck on unlocking. I got to 50%. it's a common problem. I tried lots and lots of "solutions". ended up flashing to the global dev / beta rom and unlocked immediately. some people recommend waiting longer for the unlock to work on the global stable - don't bother, just flash the beta, unlock, and reflash the stable if that's what you want.

      • Thanks for replying.

I requested it, and it asked for my mobile number which sent a code to my current phone to verify which says has now been submitted. Correct me if I'm wrong but seeing as I don't have the phone currently, it will still unlock once I download the Mi Unlock app on the RN3 phone right?

        • if i remember, the code came through via SMS
there's an unlock app that you use on your pc to unlock the phone with that code.
so shouldn't be an issue, will just mean you have the code ready for when the phone arrives.
by the time I got my code, i'd already had the phone

  • Temporarily out of stock.
    Missed out….

    • Yep, bummer

  • @Clear I ordered the phone with express DHL shipping and later on ordered a tempered glass screen protector with free shipping in a separate order, just wondering would it be possible to have both shipped together in the same package with DHL? They are a gift for my partner and would love for both to arrive at the same time.

    • Send me a PM with your order numbers.

      • Thank you, I have sent you a PM.

  • Any deal for the newer note 4?

    • No sorry. Stock availability and prices constantly fluctuate with new releases.

  • Missed out.. Any more stock coming?

  • All gone any more coming?

  • This or stay with my S6?? I seem to burn through my battery so damn quick on the S6, the battery alone would make me even if it was a slight downgrade. The slot for upgrading memory to 128GB is awesome too as I constantly live with only 500mb spare..

I think I've sold it to myself.

    • coming from s6 is a bit downsizing. s6 got beautiful screen, good design.

  • My sister in law has this, don't believe she bought it from Geekbuying and the phone has a lot of pop up ads.

Anyone had a Xiaomi phone with this issue?

    • +1

The seller has loaded a dodgy ROM with bloateare. It can be fixed by reflashing a ROM by Xiaomi.

      • in Australia we think it's bloatware, in China they are the popular apps, they thrive on wechat for messaging and Taibo instead of beat for shopping.

  • +1

I keep going between this and Moto G4 and I don't even need a phone right duh!

  • -1

Slightly higher price but local warranty on eBay and 30 days trial
    http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Xiaomi-Redmi-Note-3-Pro-Gold-32GB…

    • That is the Chinese version without the better 4G bands and the seller is in Hong Kong.

  • -3

why shop at geekbuying? you never get your items from there, least mine never shown up they just steal your money. I thought they were getting banned?

    • +3

      That would be Gearbest.

      • oh right.. names confused me. lol

    • my stuff arrives just takes 4 weeks but if you want to save on postage and wait it's fine. also have no problems with gearbest or banggood.

  • @clear. Do you have official international version 3gb+32gb + tempered glass + case like package B please? Thx

  • do xiami ever have nfc?

    • +1

      Only in their flagships.

  • +1

Looks like this deal got Ozbargained. There should be more stock available on Monday so I'll let you know then.

  • sure there will be more deals , they make lots of these and eventually supply settles and prices drop.

    • +1

Sure if other stores stock the Taiwan version.

  • Ends up getting a Mi4C from geekbuying. ~$166 with TNT express delivery! Good for those want a better camera.

    • Where from for that price? AU$ or US$ ??

      • AUD order straight from their website…

    • Can't see it that low, but no B28/700MHz anyway :(

  • Sorry if this is a hijack, but are there any phones with these specs, in this price category that are 4G/4G,or 4G/3G, with dedicated SD tray?

    • +2

I will answer this, since I had the same question myself.

After researching, I believe the best you can do currently is 4G/3G, and even then not many dual SIM phones currently can do that, and there's a list of phones that can do this here: https://whirlpool.net.au/wiki/dual_sim_4g3g_phones

None of those have a street price listed of ~$225, but the closest with street prices listed from $300 or $330 are: Asus Zenfone 3, Moto G4, and Xiaomi Mi Max.

Of those, the Moto G4 DOES have a separate SD card slot, and was $210 in this deal: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/263306 … BUT it reportedly has an overheating issue especially when using the camera, no compass sensor, no NFC, no notification LED, an underpowered SOC, and complaints of lagginess from The Verge.

The Asus Zenfone 3 unfortunately uses the SIM 2 slot for the SD card, according to gsmarena: http://www.gsmarena.com/asus_zenfone_3_ze552kl-8106.php

Similarly, the Xiaomi Mi Max also unfortunately uses the SIM 2 slot for the SD card, according to gsmarena: http://www.gsmarena.com/xiaomi_mi_max-8057.php

So, it appears right now you've got exactly one option, the Moto G4 (or G4 plus), and it has other problems.

Which is real pity, since both 4G/3G and separate SD card slot are very sensible things to want. I'm hoping that it will get better with the impending switch off of 2G networks in NZ/Singapore/Australia/etc.

  • Sold out!

  • Shows in stock for me.

  • I also see the add to cart option available.

  • how does warranty work with these guys? Is it simple?

  • Do you think i would receive my phone by the 10th if i select DHL delivery? I have to have it by then or its no good to me..

  • Just ordered one… Thanks OP! :)

  • I am still waiting on @Clear to get back to me about the case, I want to order the phone and the case together and ship via DHL… hopefully it won't be out of stock by the time he get the answer from GB…

    • +1

Relevant GeekBuying staff do not work on Sundays. I'll have an answer tomorrow.

  • Bought one. Thanks.

  • I just bought the following the other day, is this one different to it at all? Whats the diference between HK International and Global version?

[HK Stock][Official International Version]Xiaomi Redmi Note 3 Pro 5.5 Inch FHD 3GB 32GB Smartphone Qualcomm Snapdragon 650 Hexa Core MIUI V7 16.0MP TOUCH ID - Dark Gray

    • +1

HK Stock means that it'll be shipped from Geekbuying's Hong Kong warehouse.

      There are no differences.

      • Thanks for the quick response!

  • I am about to buy but would like the soft case and screen protector. So of the options (so many and confusing) which deal should I click?

  • +1

I would also like an option with a case and screen protector.

  • +1

any update regarding stock level for the grey color Clear?

  • im interested in the dark grey colour too !

  • Question for Clear:

Is this phone to be sold in Taiwan which included the software suitable for Taiwan?

  • +5

To everyone that has been asking me about cases.

GeekBuying have tested and existing cases fit this phone. Some cases like Metal ones will be a tighter fit in comparison to the more flexible gel type.

    • Is geekbuying going to put the package B option in?

      • I've put the question to them. I'll update the post if they do.

      • i can see there is "Package B 3+32GB - Gold" ?

Is this different since it is not an international rom ?

  • Also, would the Geekbuying glass screen protector fits in international version? It seems the standard note 3 pro size is 15x76x8.65 and the international version of note 3 pro size is 15.5x76x8.65 (.5cm means 50mm difference in length which is significant). Clear can you ring them and check, please?

    • +3

      1cm = 10mm

  • @clear, thank you for the info on the case. Bought one with a case , ship via DHL. My first Android phone ever (have alway been a iOS user, but for some reason Pokemon Go keep freezing up my iPhone, and my son get really upset when I delete it off ). So this is going to be dedicated Pokemon Go phone….

    • +1

U r a good dad. Gluck with ur first android! I'm also thinking of getting one .

    • @TheMatrix : What one did you choose that comes with the case ? was it the "Package B 3+32GB-Gold" ?

      — maybe this does not have the international version and google play store ?

Too many option with different price

      • +1

I did not choose any package. @clear ask GB about the case, they say most exiting case fit (except may be the metal ones), so I just add a case to my order. I got this one :
        http://www.geekbuying.com/item/Back-Case-For-Xiaomi-Redmi-No…

        • @TheMatrix: Nice Case.. ☺

Can you please let me know if it fits?

        • +1

@AbbyL: GB ETA is between 15-30 days…. will do if I can still find this post by then.

        • +1

@AbbyL: just received the case today. It fit ok

  • +1

As requested a package with a case and tempered glass screen protector is now available in grey and gold. Please ensure you select the "Official International Version"

    http://www.geekbuying.com/item/Xiaomi-Redmi-Note-3-Pro-5-5-I…

    • I guess I ordered too early. Are these items available separately or can I perhaps add them to my current order as it hasn't been marked as shipped?

      • They are available separate. You should be able to search for them.

    • wow 24 dollars more?

compare to the 16gig version of package B and without it is a lot less (6 dollars difference)

      • +1

I posted it before the discount was applied oops. Now cheaper.
