Not sure if all stores are participating but hope the photo helps.

  • Didn't know the original Ones were still being sold new. Insufficient quantity?

    • This could be nationwide.

      • It is nationwide.

Good Lord, how can this still be in stock? Has it truly sold so poorly, I thought it was just internet trolling.

    • +1

S is worth paying extra for. If you plan on leaving it on a lot then the power savings alone will make up for it.

  • +12

The Tomb Raider 1TB bundle is also $199 and is available in quite a few stores around Australia.

There's no chance of getting this.
No stores have it and it's sold out online.

      • WA has stock.. just put one on hold for pick up tomorrow

    • +1

I rang around a few stores that were supposed to have 'limited stock' or 'in stock' and was advised that there were none. This is in Vic.

  • +1

MS are surely making a loss on these or are their profit margins enormous to start with?

Anyways there goes my chance of selling my old XB1

    • +5

It's the original Xbox One model which is years old. And even at $199 it's probably above what Microsoft was able to manufacture it for.

      • -2

If you exclude all advertising, promotions, research and development and constant costs they incur from updating, then it probably is higher than what it cost them to manufacture it. But what does Target lose at selling it at this price, did they buy it for $200 from Microsoft?

        • +3

Target may have received a suppliers rebate from MS to get rid of the stock, otherwise Target head office may have instructed stores to clear it out to get it off their books.

        • Target frees up some warehouse space by flogging these off, even if they just got them somehow they still earn warehouse space by selling them faster. A warehouse full of antique xboxes isn’t good for anyone.

        • @AustriaBargain: CC Dick Smith's closing down sale trying to flog overpriced cases for 3 year old phones.

      • -1

They might be breaking even on a 500GB model at that price, but no way on the 1TB model.

    • +4

Console business is not profit making , it's the associated services/Games which generates profit

Even Xbox one X at USD 499 is probably at loss or just at Breakeven

  • Gotta be real, I prefer the black VHS look than the ugly little white thing the slim turned out to be. The X looks pretty nice, but not a good 500-bucks-at-least-when-on-sale kinda nice looking.

    • +1

$2 can of spray paint would fix that ;)

      • -1

Good way to devalue your console resale value.

        • +1

So endure a product you are unhappy with the look of for years for the cost of a spray can and perhaps the chance of selling it off later at a higher price?

        • @FabMan:

Why buy the console in the first place if you hate the looks of it?.

        • +7

@hollykryten: Depends on the quality of the job.

vinyl wrap would be the way to go. Then you can just peel it off when trying to sell it.

        • +7

Who really resells their console? I've still got an Atari from around 25 years ago, wood veneer and everything. I've got a wii from about 10 years ago. Everything else I owned until it broke and I binned it.

        • I’ve willed mine to my eventual grandchildren. Kept the manuals and stuff too.

        • @hollykryten: To play the games lol. The N64 looked fugly but I still loved to play it.

        • A current-gen console selling at $199 has no resale value.

        • -1

          @KLoNe:

No actually that's the previous gen in the Xbox One model range. The new models are the Xbox One S and the Xbox One X.

        • +1

          @hollykryten: Wrong. Same gen.

        • -1

          @KLoNe:

Well an old model. It's not as valuable a resale value a say an Xbox One X now is it. Although what you're basically would be claiming is that the Xbox One S or X would be the same generation console as the original Xbox One. Wrong.

But you're basically also saying like an original PS3 and the PS3 slim was the same generation console. No it was not the same generation. Both were designed and built years apart using different designs.

        • +1

          @hollykryten:
Xbox ONE is the same generation as all Xbox ONE's

PS3 is the same generation as all PS3's

          That's ok, I don't mind helping teenagers.

          Holden Commodore Generations

  • I see that it's the original Xbox One. I'm surprised that they still have stock there. But pretty damn good deal.

  • +30

I'd pay a bit extra for the S. Runs cooler, uses less power, quieter, no power brick, plays 4k blu rays and is slightly more powerful.

  • +3

Just think. The controller pads go for $78 alone retail. So for $121 extra you get a console.

    • It is the older version of the controller. Tempting, but considered I got XBox One S with 1 game at that price back in 2016, and even that isn't that great compared to the recent Amazon deal.

If Kinnect is important, then it might be worth considering.

      • Yeah but still probably as good as the new controller. And it would set you back $78 to buy a new controller at least according to the Target price.

        • -2

Since I had Xbox One S for $199 two years ago, I just cannot advise people to get the original Xbox One now for $199. Honestly, even $199 for Xbox One S (512GB) is just okay at best nowadays.

      • +1

Xbox One S just for the inbuilt power supply - the original power brick is massive

      • +2

Not many Xbox One Kinect games. Wikipedia lists 26. 6 of those are Just Dance games. Not all 26 released in Australia.
        https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Kinect_games_for_Xbox_…

If you're interested in Kinect you're better off keeping an old Xbox 360 going. None of the 360 games that require Kinect are going to be made compatible with the Xbox One consoles.

Unless yelling at the console to turn it on and off is your thing, save yourself $200 on an older console or $100 on a stupid adapter that should have come with the Kinect for Xbox One in the first place. kinect, sadly, is history.

Is the Xbox platform a sinking ship?

If you look at the sales figures alone, Xbox is lagging far behind the PS4 and with no must-have Xbox exclusives on the horizon and the disappointment of Sea of Thieves, it's looking pretty gloomy. You'd be a fool as a developer to make your game a complete Xbox exclusive unless they were handing over wads of cash.

PS4 has so many killer games this generation: Last of Us, Uncharted, Horizon, Spider-man, God of War, Detroit Become Human (questionable).

    What exactly has Xbox got?

    • +2

Xbox is not a sinking ship no where near it.

Well Xbox One does have Forza Horizon 3 and Forza Motorsport 7 among other game exclusives like Halo 5 and Gears of War 4. You can't play those games on a PS4.

Is the Xbox platform a sinking ship?

      No, it's a gaming console.

      • +14

He's confusing it with Sea of Thieves. That is an Xbox game with sinking ships.

    • +1

And where are these "sales figures" you speak of? :D

      • -1

On the company’s annual report I presume

      • Imagination is too a reliable source for sales figureS!

    • +1

I like them both, own all three big boy toys, and couldn't care less about the console wars.

While you're largely right, you rag on Xbox's exclusives and then list off PlayStation's… but of the 6 you listed, only Horizon and Uncharted have actually released. So by your own reasoning, two thirds of Sony's "killer games" lineup is still yet to be released.

      • Last of Us hasn't released?

the bigger deal is that he left out Bloodborne

        • +1

Unless you're counting the PS3's re-release, then no, the PS4 hasn't had it's own Last of Us game.

    • +1

Most game makers make games for both platforms. Only first party developers or developers heavily funded by the console maker (or developers working on projects requested by console makers) are platform exclusives.

XBox one exclusives are generally Halo, Gears of War, Forza series.

What XBox One S offers is a very affordable console where you get 4K UHD blu-ray player, quiet console. With Game Pass, other than Forza series, you get to play the key exclusives plus heaps more games for a reasonably cheap monthly fee. Yes, Sony have the exclusives, but you have to buy those games. I own both consoles (though I am not entirely happy most of my XBox One games are available on GamePass). XBox One controller is better than PS4's. If you have a top notch PC gaming setup, obviously XBox won't be that attractive to you.

Yes, Sony PS4 exclusives are well rated, but it doesn't mean you will enjoy every game. Now that XBox One X is out, third party games will generally work best on XBox One X.

      • Out of that list off 100 games, I could see myself playing about 7 to 10 of them.

    • +3

      What exactly has Xbox got?

Off topic, Xbox has better controllers than PS and Play Anywhere for cross platform.

    • Xbox One also has a lot of great exclusives. Currently I’m playing ReCore Definitive Edition (underrated old school style gem) and PUBG. As a console only gamer, Xbox One X is my preferred choice. PS4 exclusives just don’t appeal to me as much.

Hate it when people use the ‘but you can just get a PC’ argument. I don’t want a gaming PC nor do I want to hook one up to my TV and pretend like it’s a console. I want to chill on my couch and play games at the switch of a button, and Xbox One does just that for me.

      • +3

While I agree XBox One has some great exclusives, it is best to be as objective as possible and don't bash other camps. If it is good, it is good, you don't need to bash others to make it look good.

As an owner of all 3 (PC, PS4 (Pro), XBox One (X)). They are all enjoyable. There is no denial that if money is no issue, a high end gaming PC offers the best performance, graphics, experience etc… PUBG runs better on PCs. Consoles are generally easier for people to just hook up and play, but it doesn't mean you cannot do that with a PC.

The reality is that we, consumers, need both XBox One and PS4 to continue being competitive. Competition is good for us. Microsoft’s Phil Spencer congratulated Naughty Dog on positive Uncharted 4 reviews back in 2016. Personally, I enjoy exclusives from both camps, and I hope both camps continue bringing out quality titles. Reality is that game developers worked very hard on those titles. They deserve some credits and our support.

        • -2

Was I bashing other consoles? I don’t believe I was. You’re talking to the wrong person.

I never said anything bad about PS4, nor PC. I was simply replying to someone who was essentially bashing the Xbox by stating that Xbox One has worthy exclusives too.

Objective? What do you mean by being objective in this case? My point is that it’s entirely subjective. Everyone has preferences and my preference is Xbox One. If you like like other platforms, that’s totally fine. You just don’t have to force your opinion down other’s throats. Xbox One has been the victim of this with the constant ‘Xbox has no games’ rhetoric.

I’ve got nothing against PC gaming. I just don’t appreciate it when PC elitists claim that you can emulate the console experience with PCs, making consoles obsolete, which is not true. The PC has its place, but consoles equally do too.

        • @manbearpig: You were bashing PC and mildly bashing PS4. Things like "pretend like it is a console" and "I just don't …". To be fair, the PS4 fanboy was far worse in terms of bashing. I can understand XBox One X's appeal, but comment like (PC) pretend like it is a console - honestly, from past experience hearing PC fanboys' arguments why PC is better - they don't really see 'like a console' being a positive.

If you are fine with subjective comments than you shouldn't 'hate' other people's subjective PC comments either.

As for Xbox One has been the victim of this with the constant ‘Xbox has no games’ rhetoric, if those were subjective comments from PS4 fanboys, I wouldn't worry about it. Like I said, if it is good, people know it's good.

        • @netsurfer:

No, I wasn’t, lol. Mate, you’ve clearly misinterpreted what I’ve said.

‘Pretend like it’s a console’ as in hooking up a PC to my TV and connecting controllers to it to emulate the console experience. That is what I’m talking about, and it’s literally true. Not ‘pretending like it’s a console’ as in “PCs will never be as good as consoles” or anything like that. Like I said, PCs have their place, and consoles have theirs too.

How is saying “PS4 exclusives just don’t appeal to me as much.” bashing the PS4?? I was simply giving a reason why I happen to prefer Xbox One because the OP couldn’t seem to understand why anyone would buy an Xbox One. I simply gave him my reason. It’s that simple. You’re being pedantic and too easily offended.

I’m perfectly fine with subjective comments as long as they’re respectful. Let’s flip things around for you and see how you feel. If someone simple says “I prefer PS4 games as Xbox One games just don’t appeal to me”, I’d be perfectly fine with that because it’s being respectful. That’s not Xbox bashing. By your logic, however, you would consider that kind of comment Xbox bashing. That’s just being overly sensitive.

        • +1

my son has xbox one s, ps4 and pc for gaming …… the PC versions of games are cheaper if available on same platforms and selection is larger.

im often shocked at how expensive consoles versions of games are compared to the PC version, and if disc is damaged then it’s game over, with PC you have the code and can reinstall.

for consoles exclusive i can understand but multi differences.

        • -1

@garage sale: A gaming PC costs $2000+, the graphics card alone is the price of two consoles.

        • @manbearpig: Last time a PC fan boy was whinging about XBox (regarding an XBox One S deal), he arguments were: game selection and price (and he mentioned about something the XBox exclusives being available on PC (via PlayAnywhere) isn't a good idea - I still don't quite fully understand his reasoning), the ability to truly multi task, ssd (faster loading time), and superior performance. I did mentions PC graphics cards are expensive and poorly priced, it is not cost effective all all for general public (and he agreed). His main gripe about exclusives was the way Microsoft does things (and to a lesser extent, what's in the pipeline).

Also, PUBG and ReCore. Mentioning those two games and then the comments about PC. I think PUBG is one game PC fan boy like to rave about. ReCore is a PlayAnywhere title on GamePass. That's also a game PC fanboy would come up with the argument of "4K".

A comment like “I prefer PS4 games as Xbox One games just don’t appeal to me” is subjective. And, if there is any trace in the other parts of the overall comment that it is from an PS4 fan boy (or it is from an owner that owns just PS4), then yes, I do consider that bashing XBox One.

        • @xioxxio: You visit Ozbargain and spew that crap?!
There has been posts in the last day of gaming PCs in the $900 to $1100 range!

        • @manbearpig: But you can emulate a "console experience" on PC!
Just about all multi platform games support controllers on PC and Steam big picture mode provides a console like interface!

Calling people "elitist" because they state the objective truth just shows that you have an irrational, biased view point!

        • +1

@Namesareapain: I have a Steam Link and from an ease of use proposition the Xbox craps all over it. Then there are the 360 and OG BC games that all work flawlessy. If I fire up an older game from my Steam library which supposedly has controller support, no doubt I will need to do half the functions with Mouse and KB.

        • @Namesareapain:

Yes, you can emulate the console experience but it’s not the same. From an ease of use point of view, consoles on a TV are more seamless. That is the objective truth. PCs still require mouse and keyboard for navigation even with a controller. When you have friends over, the last thing you want to do is turn on your PC and try to play split screen…

As I said, PCs have their place as do consoles. I used to game on PC at my desk. I game on consoles now on my TV.

        • @sallan75:

Exactly my point too. It seems that many people like to ignore this and pretend that you can emulate the console experience on PC 1:1 when you can’t.

        • @xioxxio: You are clearly a dumb fanboy or a troll, https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/371569 deal with it!

        • @manbearpig: Only some games require mouse and keyboard, others work completely fine with a controller, also tell me again, how many recent console games even support split screen?!

        • @Namesareapain:

The PC interface will never be 100% controller compatible. Even the slightest incompatibility ruins the experience. Many games still support split screen or multiplayer of some nature.

The fact is, consoles have a market and appeal of their own. Denying this is denying fact. If they didn’t have a market and appeal of their own, then no one would own consoles and everyone would have gaming PCs. But this isn’t the case, is it.

    • +1

      What exactly has Xbox got?

      A Blu-Ray player for starters.

    • +1

Yeah we know, when it comes to consoles Xbox exclusives don't count. Forza Motorsport and Forza Horizon series, Halo 5 and MCC, Gears of War 4, Sunset Overdrive, Quantum Break, Ryse, Recore, Halo Wars 2, Ori and the Blind Forest, Dead Rising 3 & 4, Cuphead, PUBG, Sea of Thieves and hundreds of Backwards Compatible games. All these games are mediocre and most can be played on PC or something, blah blah blah. All PS4 exclusives are the best games ever and I cry myself to sleep every night knowing I can't play Drive Club.

    • Microsoft doesn't release sales figures for the Xbox so 'looking at sales figures alone' is not a thing that you can actually do.

  • +1

Cheap media players, with advance optional uses. I use one as an EMBY client, but have ROKU's too.

Its worth paying a few more dollars for xbox one s, just because xbox one s can play 4k UHD Bluray discs. The original xbox one cannot.
It might not matter now, because maybe you dont have a 4k tv yet. But when you do buy a 4k tv, you will be kicking yourself for not paying a few extra $$$ for the one s model, that plays 4k discs. Unless of course, you are somone who can afford to, and is happy to pay over $300 just for a 4k disc player, pay the extra $50 or so now for xbox one s.

    • I already have a PS4. Is it really worth it to buy another gaming rig with the extra $50 for a 4k output. I'm thinking about it because this is very cheap.

      • +1

Like he said a few extra dollars

      • Xbox one s is not proper 4k gaming, it is 4k gaming, but I think its called 'native 4k' what the new xbox one X has.
Many have recommended the xbox one s, even for non-gamers, because it is the cheapest possible 4k movie disc player… Then you have gaming system also.
It is not the best 4k disc movie player, (possibly the least best) , but it is the cheapest. My friend bought just a 4k bluray disc player, and it was $399 new (I got him a deal second hand for $200) . And I think his player plays 4k films a bit better than mine, but even at $399, thats on the cheapish side for 4k bluray disc players. So $250 for a games system and 4k bluray disc player, its a no-brainer, if you are a gamer, and dont intend forking out $400 or so on just a disc player.
I have my ps4 pro, xbox one s. Tbh, im mostly into PlayStation as I assume you are also, but it is handy to be able to play the rare xbox exclusives that are good. For me , forza, Gears of war, Killer Instinct.

        • Xbox One S is Full HD upscaled to 4K when it comes to gaming on a 4K TV.

It can however play 4K blu-ray and 4K media streaming in native 4K.

        • @hollykryten: Yes, that sounds about right. I thought the updates for Xbox 4k gaming titles on xbox one s were slightly better than mere upscaling though.

        • @ozzpete:

Impossible for those games on the Xbox One S to be any more than upscaled HD video.

        • @hollykryten: That's still a good feature in of itself.

        • @hollykryten: 4k Netflix and YouTube? Thinking of buying one and a cheap 4k TV for probably $800

        • @AlienC:

Yes you'll get Netflix 4K streaming and Youtube 4K streaming through the Xbox One S. It's only the original Xbox One as seen in this deal post which doesn't support 4K.

          http://4k.com/news/xbox-one-s-netflix-app-requires-app-updat…

          https://www.techradar.com/news/youtube-finally-allows-4k-str…

        • @hollykryten: hmm very tempting.

Was considering a cheap 1050ti pc build but for some games console is actually better population wise I heard.

Titanfall 1 and 2 being one.. pity no Planetside 2 though if Xbox had Planetside 2 it would be a no brainer buy for me as I don't need the other exclusives that muxh.. I really really want to play that game.

        • @hollykryten: hdr YouTube and Netflix?
