  • Second one is not a deal.
Office works are selling it for $2 cheaper!

      And out of stock! :P

        • +4

          Hi ocoolio,

          a) It's the best AVAILABLE price on the market. Anyone can advertise a product not in stock for amazing prices, we actually have stock available for our advertised price
          b) The primary deal is the Dell anyway which is an amazing deal, the HP is there as alot of customers prefer Ultrabooks these days

Thanks for your "productive" comment though..

        • -8

First you correct zachmtran even though he is perfectly right then if someone points it out, you lecture them too.

Hmm… ignorance and arrogance are great tactics to win friends and customers!

          Hi ocoolio,

Please familiarise yourself with the OzBargain terms and conditions of use before making negative comments.

  • just a little gripe - when are these "lower end" laptops going to have USB 3.0 as standard?

    • It's getting there shmahoo, about 70% of all notebooks now have USB 3.0
I'd say in the next 12 months that will become 100%

      • thanks for your answer - appreciated insight from someone in the business.

also makes me make sure that when I do get my next laptop to make sure I don't settle for USB 2 ports

        • Wait another 5yrs then u can settle for usb 4 Ports

        • Just get a SATA3 hot-swap bay instead of an optical drive :)

  • Check out the New HP 14-B030TU Ultrabook @ $498

The HP is not an ultrabook according to the manufacturer. Rep can you tell us how it qualifies as an Ultrabook?
    http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/product?cc=us&lc=en&produ…

    • -1

HP have their Ultrabook range and their "Sleekbook" range. Essentially the Sleekbooks are cheaper Ultrabooks for HP, but to make their Ultrabook range seem prestige they made the lower models called Sleekbooks instead for better brand recognition.

Ultimately, an Ultrabook as defined by Intel (who own the "Ultrabook" trademark) is a laptop which uses an Intel Ultra-low Voltage CPU to offer maximum battery life. As this laptop has an Intel Core i5-3317U CPU which is an Ultra Low Voltage model, it is a fair call to say it's an Ultrabook even though it goes against HP's marketing strategy.

      • +2

Rep I disagree. Intel owns the Ultrabook name and have a high set of benchmarks for the manufacturers to meet before that name can be used. The Sleekbook do not meet those benchmarks, that's it, no ifs, no buts.

I have negged this post to signal fellow oxbargainers they are looking at an inferior product to the genuine Ultrabooks.

Also consider yourself somewhat liable for trademark infringement.

        • +1

List of ultrabooks and the benchmarks here.

Have a read through Intels definition of an Ultrabook before you take Wikipedia as gospel.

          http://www.intel.com.au/content/www/au/en/benchmarks/ultrabo…
Intel clearly defining the CPU as an ULTRABOOK CPU. Direct from Intel instead of Wikipedia.

        • +1

Here is a better definition from intel FYI.
          http://blogs.intel.com/technology/2011/07/the_world_of_compu…

So using a ultrabook CPU automatically makes a laptop ultrabook? You're kidding right? There are also requirements for thickness, battery life and sleep resumption (most likely to require a msata or full size SSD, which this doesn't have).

        • -3

          Hi Stuntman,
          As per your link these are the key features of an Ultrabook;
Thin/light designs - HP B-14030TU has this feature, it's less than 21mm thick
Ultra-fast start up - HP B-14030TU has this feature. 8 Second boot from our display model
Extended battery life - HP B-14030TU has this feature, 8 hours total battery
Security enabled BIOS features - HP B-14030TU has this feature in the BIOS

So based off what you are saying, this is still ultrabook. Thanks for the link anyway

        • +1

I voted because the deal is good, however, I agree with stuntman here, you need to change your description to Sleekbook, instead of Ultrabook. That is a trademark owned by Intel, and I am sure HP will know if they are able to use that term or not.

        • +2

          Hi all,
Please note the main deal was the Dell laptop but the posts are now just a war of terminology of Sleekbook vs Ultrabook. To please the crowds and avoid arguing over terminology, I have changed all references of "Ultrabook" to "Sleekbook". I trust this pleases you now as we are referring to the product as a "sleekbook" as advertised by HP.

        • +1

I list it as ultra sleek

        • Hi victaaaa,
I'd advise against calling it an Ultrabook, these OzBargainers are trolling against that word in this post :P I'd agree with you though…

  • +1

$20 Shipping on the HP in Sydney seems a bit steep it's like 5% of the price of the entire laptop!

    • +3

Hi ozlegacy, for freight we use TNT registered couriers who are a bit pricier than most other courier companies.

We can offer Fastway deliveries Sydney Metro for $10 if you like, however we have had a few problems with Fastway (cracked laptop screens) and no insurance is offered with Fastway meaning the end user is liable for the damages if any during transit.

All of our TNT shipments include insurance against loss/damage during transit and are delivered to your door with online tracking available the whole way.

If you would like to take advantage of the cheaper Fastway freight please submit your order via email so we can key this for you manually, but again do so at your own risk!

      • Ok thanks for the reply makes sense and the fact it is insured explains the cost, are the HPs available for this price if you walk into your store in Fairfield? Or is it web only?

      • +4

I think its against Australian laws to say the end user is liable for damages during transit

        • +2

Not yet unfortunately!! That's why we use TNT anyway, they include insurance as standard so we don't have these problems Cardz, it was an issue once upon a time which TNT has fixed for us.

They're also great when it comes to on-time deliveries and online tracking so it's a win for us and our customers.

        • +2

Well the WA Government Commerce department disagrees with you.

          http://www.commerce.wa.gov.au/consumerprotection/PDF/Factshe…

        • +1

Fair point Cardz, but we are based in NSW. Anyway, again we use TNT couriers as a DEFAULT courier service so damages are covered. If I send you freight, it's via TNT which is insured to cover any damages which occur in transit.

        • I think you will find the commerce laws are Australia wide.
Also if there is a problem with delivery the customer comes to you with warranty coverage. Its you who can go to TNT or whoever. The customer does not claim warranty from the freight company.

I thought being a retailer you would know these commerce laws.

        • -1

Agree. Deal negg'd for both this and misleading product listing/advertisement. For a product that is not an actual Ultrabook, this is not a good value deal.

        • You've seen it cheaper?

        • +1

          Hi all,
Please note the main deal was the Dell laptop but the posts are now just a war of terminology of Sleekbook vs Ultrabook. To please the crowds and avoid arguing over terminology, I have changed all references of "Ultrabook" to "Sleekbook". I trust this pleases you now as we are referring to the product as a "sleekbook" as advertised by HP.

        • You are repeating yourself. This particular thread was about the fact you said its the buyers responsibility for damaged goods when using one of your couriers. Now its just an effort to derail the discussion.

        • Careful, he might repeat himself

        • Cardz,
As I said to you twice, now for the third time, we use TNT couriers as a standard delivery service as they include insurance on deliveries by default which then leaves no responsibility on the customer. Why are you picking at an issue which does not exist? Seriously, what is the point you are getting at??

        • -1

Ahh ok I got it now..

Because you mainly use 1 courier if someone wanted cheaper delivery from you they can do so but bear any risk to damages because you are allowed to override Australian commerce law as you do have an option of delivery with insurance.
And to put this debate at an end you have correctly renamed some of your products to Sleekbooks. Sorry I missed this bit in the law. Thanks for clearing this up..

          Seriously….

        • +3

          Cardz,

NSW Fair Trading notes about online shopping for consumers - http://www.fairtrading.nsw.gov.au/Consumers/Ways_to_shop/Onl…

"Who is responsible for undelivered goods or damage in transit?

Read the delivery terms and conditions before you buy from an online seller. That information usually explains how such issues are handled and who is responsible if goods are not delivered or get damaged in transit. If you are not sure whether insurance is included in the cost of the goods or the shipping charges, email the seller about this before buying the goods.

While completing a sale, you might sometimes be given a choice of delivery options and even asked if you want to insure your goods at extra cost.

Contact the seller immediately if your goods have not arrived within the stated time or they are damaged."

Note hoe it says "read the delivery terms and conditions before you buy from an online seller".

Now read my terms and conditions on our website, http://www.visiontech.com.au/terms

So basically, as per NSW Fair Trading regulations, please note we are also based in NSW not Western Australia, we are doing and have done nothing wrong. By using TNT couriers with a default insurance, we're offering our customers added peace of mind to avoid these problems, effectively fixing the issue before it even arises. By saying use Fastway at your own risk, again we have done nothing wrong and I even provided fair warning to a potential customer of the added risk + the fact that we've had bad experiences with Fastway previously.

You are just being a keyboard warrior, your points have all been proved wrong and I am now reporting you for personal attacks as I have clearly responded to every one of your silly claims with a fair and reasonable response which just isn't good enough for you.

        • Oh so you are reporting me for personal attacks?
Seriously ???? What did I call you?
Yet you have called me a keyboard warrior and indirectly a troll (when you said ozbargain people responding to your thread are all trolls).

None of my points have been proved wrong (probably because they are not wrong). Your terms and conditions do not over-right Australian law. Seriously do some research. If you write that once a item is delivered early the customer has to pay you $500 does that also become law???

        • +1

Did you even read the NSW Fair Trading link I sent to you? You quote laws, quote laws relevant to our business instead of mixing interstate laws which are not applicable or relevant. If you also read my "indirect troll" message, that was in regards to sleekbooks and ultrabooks terminology which you had nothing to do with - so don't flatter yourself thinking the post was aimed at you. And the only way I can justify your actions, repeatedly raising issues which do not exist, is a personal attack.
