  • 1xAA battery? Does that mean you use normal batteries rather than those big ones?

    • Yes its the regular AA batteries like the ones in your remote for the TV

    • +29

It means you use one AA battery. One single AA battery. The battery that you use is an AA one.

    • LOL, AA batteries only come in one size. There's no such thing as a 'big AA' :)

Edit: Oh wait, did I miss the joke? If so… #fail

  • What sort of lithium batteries do these take?

    • They take regular AA batteries

    • +1

This flashlight will accept 14500-sized lithium ion cells in addition to regular AA cells

      • You need to be careful that you don't use a 14500 lithium cell in a torch that doesn't have an emitter suited for the higher voltage.

        • +2

          Input Voltage 1.2~4.2V

According to the specs, this flashlight should take a 14500 without issue.

      • thanks, I'm used to the larger sized 18650. Didn't know there was a 14500.

  • +1

    do these take AA bateries?

  • What sort of NiMH batteries do these take?

    • Will take any AA-sized NiMH, regardless of whether they are the regular type or the low self-discharge type (ie Eneloop).

      • +2

Um, you know what you said above about maybe missing the joke…?

  • +1

Received mine a week ago. It's small and good quality. It's also very bright, but it doesn't focus well.

    • Are you extending the head all the way? Apart from having slightly more resistance than I would prefer, I don't have any focus issues on mine. In fact, the throw in focused mode is very impressive, especially given the size of the flashlight and the fact that it runs on a single AA.

      • It's not as bright if the head is fully extended. Sorry, I've got the Q5, not this one

        • I have the Q5 as well, however it sounds like yours has an issue of some kind. Mine is blindingly bright in fully-focused mode.

        • I thought so as well, but it's not worth returning it

  • Received the last deal. Amazing little torch well worth the bucks!

    5% off with SPRINGU

maybe be better codes out there.

    • Cheers for the coupon worked! 6.92 for two delivered.

    • Just out of pure curiosity… how did you get the coupon code?

      • +1

don't know if this comment is a reply to me or to "altomic"
but just google Tmart and coupon
lots of coupons sites with this as the current coupon.

        • Cheers buddy~

        • Cheers too buddy~

        • +1

yeah, just googled "tmart coupon code".

I always google the site name plus "coupon code" "discount voucher" etc or what ever the site has named the "coupon" space before I buy anything.

look at a few sites and find a code that works. couple of minutes work.

price is now $9.89 for one. with coupon code + reduced price I got 3 for $10.36. happy with that

  • Is this better or the Cree Q5?

    • Cree Q5 is brighter, I think. But it also depends on the drive current and on other variables like build quality, heatsinking etc.

      • Yep, that's right. With all things being equal, a Q5 would output more lumens compared to a Q3.

Generally speaking, the higher the number, the more efficient the LED is at producing light at an equivalent voltage and current.

        • I didn't realise; I thought Q5 was simply higher output, not more efficient (necessarily). Can you post a link ?
          (edit)
          http://flashlightwiki.com/Cree
only mentions current, but I guess the voltage drop is roughly constant, so what you say is true.
          You learn something every day.

  • Thanks OP, I love these flashlight deals, unfortunately I keep getting one every post! Great for the summer storms

  • These are great little torches. Flood mode is so good - really nice even and wide beam. I now have a black one and a silver one. I wish I could find a reason to buy another. Got any other colours?

edit: Ah what the hell, ordered two more. These make great gifts.

  • I use this on my bike. Really like the fact that it uses AA batteries. Very handy.

  • Got one last time. Great little torch for the money. Got two this time for small gifts and the 'springu' worked thanks

  • Silver please!

  • I like it since it looks like a mini light-saber

  • cheers ears got 2

  • -2

    what batteries does this take?

    • +2

      4 x "D" size

      • +1

        No, no, seven 9 volt.

        • +4

So just to be clear, these take 2 x 'A' sized batteries right??

        • +2

Sadly your humour will be lost on most of the readers here, they are too young to have seen a "A" battery.

"A" batteries were used to power valve radios, and a single "A" battery is larger than a soft-drink can, approaching the size of a Pringles can or a can of three tennis balls.

  • +1

Thanks OP. I got 2 as well using SPRINGU.

Tip: Use USD and pay using 28 degrees for an extra little discount. Looks like Tmart conversion rate is 1:1 for AUD at the moment. Only really worth it if you're buying more high prices items though I guess.

Something to go along $3.18 for a pair of 14500 http://www.tmart.com/2Pcs-UltraFire-14500-AA-3.7V-1200mAh-Li…

    • Good on ya, mate. Done and done. :)

      • Mycosys, recommending that ANYBODY buy unprotected lithium cells of the most counterfeited brand in marketplace from a retailer that along with a number of others - like buyincoins and even dx - has been shown to sell fakes, means you need to do some reading on the subject. A bit of judicious googling and forum searches and you might even find links to sellers of fake ultrafire wraps.

Yjm, my two cents worth at the end of this thread may be of interest to you… www.ozbargain.com.au/node/97667

  • Thanks OP, good post.

  • +1

Haven't received mine from last deal :(

    • Neither have I. I'm going to be patient

    • Still waiting on mine too. I'm going to wait it out.

  • Be careful, it is not a toy. It has enough power to damage your site. I would not recommend for gifts, especially where are kids. I keep mine locked away, only for emergency.

    • +8

Please don't point your torch at OzB.

  • $4.99 for 300lm
    http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/98328
i think it takes one AA battery, may need confirmation

    • Are you sure it only needs one AA battery as I was informed differently.

  • Can never have enough torches!!.

  • +1

Wow, awesome deal! Thanks OP & Altomic! I got six for a scrape over $20 using the SPRINGU code.

  • No idea wtf is so good about this flashlight but 64 positive why not…

  • editted

  • YES!!…bought three plus another two that I have now I can use them during Earth hour!!

  • Already have multiple torches…..recently bought a $40 NiteCore…could not resist getting one of these.

Can't have ozbargain Eneloops sitting idle will be my excuse.

  • How are you getting the 3.64 price? I only see $5.14?

  • showing as 5.14 for me, am i missing something?

    • Same here

  • -1

Disappointed! I think this is a Cree replica. I bought one in the last deal. There is zero branding on the torch. If you google it the original Cree's have a brand on it. This one is just plain with nothing on it. No wonder its cheap.
Cheap Cn replica. Rather pay a bit more for original.

    • +3

It doesn't have to have CREE branding on it to have a CREE LED module mounted within the head…

CREE branding means nothing. It's the LED inside that counts.

    • +1

      Go here: http://flashlightwiki.com/Cree#XR-E

Looks at the pics. Then look at the LED in your flashlight. There's no need for mystery here.

    • Savvy, there's no such thing as a Cree original - or a replica. Cree don't make torches at all, they just make the LED's they go into them. Oh, and even some of the original (Sipik branded) torches are 'replicas'.
Not exactly unrelated though definitely tongue-in-cheek, that's why I made this old forum post - www.ozbargain.com.au/node/98409

  • -6

Would be nice if it were true ANSI Lumens

    • +3

Considering that a Q3 XR-E can put out 200 lumens at 1A, and considering that I've seen some of these little SK68 clones pull 1.5A from a Li-ion battery, even taking driver losses and heat sag into account you might indeed see close to 200 lumens OTF, at least for a while anyway.

Theorizing aside, I have one that is very nearly as bright as one of the legitimate 200 lumen flashlights in my collection.

The problem with these little torches is simply that the quality and performance varies wildly because there's very little QC, and that's ignoring the fact that we're often dealing with clones, and even clones of clones.

Even so, this is yet another bullshit neg.

      • Thing is that these cheap flashlight can become dangerous if operated at 1A and at their claimed brightness because of usually poor heat transfer.
Your comment about lack in QC is exactly my point - nobody can guarantee that it is in fact a cree XR-E Q3 and that its driver etc. is actually able to handle Li-Ion batteries.

I just had bad experiences with these lights and can not recommend them - its a shame that one gets downvoted for this.

        • I have a number of CREE LED flashlights of different brands (Ultrafire, Romisen, Sipik etc) and from various suppliers, and I have not had any major issues with any of them. I guess this is one of those cases where your mileage may vary.

        • +2

Buying budget lights is often a crapshoot, and these SK68 clones are about as budget as you can get. But the question one should ask is this: considering what they are, is this a good deal? The answer is YES. Why? Because this is pretty much as cheap as they get.

Further, every single SK68 clone I've seen (a total of about 15 have been through my hands, from different sellers) and every single one I've ever seen anyone else who knows about flashlights talk about, has had a genuine CREE XR-E LED in it (although I've heard one report of someone finding a CREE XP-E instead, which is roughly equivalent in performance anyway, all other things being equal). I've also never encountered one that didn't work with 14500 Li-ion batteries.

As for safety, what problems did you have? Inefficient drivers and inadequate heat dissipation aren't really significant safety considerations in this particular context. I mean you can't really drive an XR-E so hard that it would cause a fire or anything. At most it would just turn blue and fizzle out. The biggest safety concern would be the Li-ion batteries themselves, and that hazard can be managed with an appropriate degree of attentiveness and proper battery management. It can be further mitigated by choosing only to use batteries with built-in protection circuits. It can be even further mitigated (nearly to the point of being a complete non-issue) by choosing to use quality cells and charging equipment. It can be pretty much ENTIRELY mitigated by choosing not to use Li-ion cells at all, and settling for the reduced output.

One could of course make the point that if one is prepared to fork out for quality cells and charging equipment, that one would likely also choose to avoid cheap flashlights produced under highly questionable QC conditions in the first place, and there's some truth in that. However, I don't really think there are any good reasons to consider SK68 clones like these to be safety hazards.

          /end rant

        • I just think that cheaper is not always better - which I is why I do not think that this is a good deal.
Isn't that why the voting system is in place? So that anyone can give their opinion on a deal and not just the people who think it is a good one?

  • Expired?

    • +2

yup, looks like the price changed. It was the old price a bit ago when i placed my order lol

  • I bought a silver one of these. Its full metal - just so solid. Its like holding the handle of a light saber. It has a telescopic lens that slides back n forth. Its very kewl :-) Only one AA battery does the job!

  • I got the Cree Q5 a few weeks back for this price from banggood.
    http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/98488

rep, do a deal on the Q5's for the good peeps.

    • +1

No guarantee you'd get a Q5 bin XR-E anyway. In fact there's no guarantee that you got one from banggood either. But aside from that, the biggest variable in the output equation with these lights is the driver anyway, and you could end up with anything. In other words, a Q3 with the right driver can be a hell of a lot brighter than a Q5 with something behind it that doesn't drive it anywhere near as hard, etc etc.

    • still haven't receive it yet.

  • Price has changed?

  • expired

  • i haven not received my torch ordered during last "sale" (29/3)

    • I only received mine today so hang tight till next week hopefully you will get it soon! I almost forgot about it!

    • Yeah, received mine yesterday as well, took a while…

  • Bummer, missed out on this one. Got the last one, was thinking of getting a few for presents!

So I saw this one : http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/100436 - Cree C5, Modes (low/high/flash), only downside is it takes 3 x AAA. Only 0.05c more than this one, but no votes? What am I missing?

  • hi guys,
One quick dumb question. How long does it take to receive item from Tmart? I've not received my item for the last order I made on 2nd April :(

    • +1

      5 posts above yours.

  • Ordered one last time on 29 March. Today is 20 April and it still hasn't come through….
