You just don't get it. Better in terms of sound reproduction of course, but that totally misses the point.

Yeah, I have a pair given away as a promotion. They are well made, have detachable cables and come in a nice pouch. As they fold up, they are ideal for a walkaround headphone, as they pack away small and sit over your ear so you can hear the bus before it hits you as you jaywalk across the road. Lots of base, not much isolation.
If you look at more than just the best sound, and take useabilty into account, they are good, and I use mine a lot. If you can get them cheap and want something to throw in the crumpler bag when you head into town (public transport) then these might be the way to go.
I have much better sounding 'phones at home but they are bulky, more expensive and too much isolation for walking around outside.

Pretty much correct there.
I never understand the blind hate for people have for beats (often without trying them). For some types of music they sound fantastic and others the extra bass makes it sound awful (rock music). I like my pair of pros because they are comfortable as anything to wear for extended periods I can not say that about too many other of the supposedly better headsets. the solos are pretty portable and the sound out of them I feel is pretty good.
You could always invest in Enron. Similar use of money.

There is going to be a huge flood of Solo's on ebay as they ship free with HTC One pre-orders. I've been following a few that have gone for around $110-120 and picked one up this money on aunction for $113.
So i would highly recommend scouting ebay before considering this as an option. It's hard to identify genuines - but if they say they shipped with their HTC phone or in the picture you can see a white and purple Telstra sticker on the side then you will be very safe to say it is real and not a fake.
They're worth maybe as much as Skullcandy.
