They won't be delivered for at least 3 weeks.

    • +2

That's just there standard listing - every phone they have is listed as 2-3 weeks but you'll get it within a week (unless out of stock) from past experiences with these guys.

      • that's a shame. i was gonna get 2 other phones off them but decided not to because of that

  • Looks like they just dropped the price down by an extra $10 overnight. I was looking at this yesterday and it was $539 plus delivery.

    • I was looking at this for the last two days and it's been $548 delivered the entire time.

  • No gst on Kogan stock.

    • It will be < $400 in three months.

  • +1

bought from them, took a while about, around 2 weeks.

The phone, it's good, I love my one.

  • this or the SGS4?

    • depends if you want to go swimming with your phone

      • Can't swim for more than 30 minutes though.

Don't bother with the xperia, it's cheap for a reason:
      - TFT screen is horrible
      - Waterproofing does more harm than good, speakers sound tinny and isn't very loud. Water damage indicators are right under the cover flaps of the usb/sd/headphone ports. If you plan on using this for music while jogging or exercising, high chance of voiding your warranty from moisture in your pocket.

      • +3

Screen looked gorgeous to me. Miles ahead of any pentile AMOLED screen I've seen.

Waterproofing wasn't designed for you to use it underwater. It was designed to prevent accidental droppage into water, which instantly kills an iphone.

        • +3

The screen is pretty good actually. Less saturated than others but the ppi is amazing.

Waterproofing is pretty good in practical use. Had mine placed in esky for about 10 minutes, dropped in very warm water, passed over steam, in rain while cycling in an internal jacket pocket and it all still works fine. Moisture from jogging should be no issue.

Best thing is I can use this baby in rain and the touch screen doen't give up. It still works when wet!

having owned more phones than most and being a beta tester with android from many years ago for me the Xperia Z is still better than the cheap feeling S4 (which screen isnt realistic at all)
id much prefer the sony screen wise
as for the waterproofing its a nice touch but not something id buy a phone on

        • Hold it next to the HTC One, no competition there. It's like an acer gaming monitor vs an Ezio.

        • as for the waterproofing its a nice touch but not something id buy a phone on

Until you drop one into a glass of water, or the lake.

Sony do make a cheaper version of the phone that isn't waterproof btw, but it is thinner. I think they call it the ZL.

$529 now, It must be a crap phone, price drop a further $20.

    • +1

      It's still $548 delivered.

    • it's not a crap phone. it's just the fate of all android devices. prices sink in a heart beat.

      • That's a good thing for everyone except the manufacturers.

I see few people bagging the phone… sure it's not as epic as the other big name phones out atm (namely HTC One and GS4), however for the price, and for a flagship 2013 model… I think it's quite good value for money.

It's got a nice camera too!

However as mentioned above, probably better spending those few extra bucks getting the AU model :)

    • +1

I don't even see how it falls short against the GS4. I compare the specs and tbh, the GS4 has nothing extra I want

      • Wireless ac, whoopdy doo
      • dual shot camera, I don't even use the one camera

And that seems to be about the only differences; both are quad core with 2g ram, 5" 1080x1920 displays.

The Sony is one sexy looking phone and has a nice water/shatter proof design, I personally don't like HTC phones (last 2 had crappy battery life, and a GUI I wasn't particularly fond of), so for me it's a clear cut decision.

      • On paper, the xperia really isnt behind, it's more the nitty gritty differences really.

TFT screen is the main cause of the bad rep, you either don't mind or you loathe it. To me it's ust washed out right off the bat, hold it next to the One and its night and day. Not too fond of samsung's oled, too saturated even when set to professional mode, makes me puke.

I just didn't like poor design choices sony made. Water stickers under the flaps and the fact that they used dragontrail instead of gorilla glass (most likely to cut cost), which needs a layer of anti-shatter film to hold broken glass shards in WHICH then needs a layer of anti scratch film. Causes too much glare in the sunlight, and still doesn't have oleophobic coating (but then again you can wash this phone under running water).

        • Not too fond of samsung's oled, too saturated even when set to professional mode, makes me puke.

Glad I'm not the only one :)

        • Dragontrail glass are meant to be stronger then gorilla glass. Well this phone has both gorilla and dragontrail glass on front and back.

The default greyish screen gives the impression it's washed. Change it to a black background and the result is much better.

I find the XZ is nice and elegant. The HTC One is also nice and feels premium as well, either way you cant go wrong with either phone. Each for themself I guess.

      • I agree Cyber!

  • One of the best phone out at the moment. Value for money this beats any other on the market.

    • +1

Definitely good value for money. Pretty crazy how fast the price has fallen (although the starting price wasn't crazy high though). It's a good phone but IMO the HTC One and S4 are better phones (unless you need the added protection that Xperia has).

      • Sony phones price drop faster than Samsung or HTC, I don't know why but I noticed the trend. I bet it will be below $500 by end of this month and stabilised around the $450-$500 mark in the next 6 months. Of course this is for grey imports, not those sold as the local retail outlets like HN, DSE or JB, where they will still sell at ridiculous prices.

        • $360 for the xperia and $400 for the HTC one 32gb for telstra employees, no price on S4's yet. I dont see these going near those prices within a month.

        • I notice the HTC One size is as big as the S4, but with a smaller screen. The One is absolutely gorgeous and well build, would have been better if they manage to squeezed in the same size of screen in it.

Not considering the Z at all as I played with it in Telstra store and found it is too finger print prone and don't have the premium feeling of the One. So nice to work for Telstra.

        • How do telstra employees get the phones for this price? my friend works for them at the moment but may not be for long. Can we get the phone for this price outright from an employee?

      • +1

Couldn't agree more. I own the XZ and love it, water resistance was at the top of my list, and the fact that it was a flagship model sweetened the deal.

        All 3 of the big dogs have their own selling point;
        S4: feature packed
HTC One: front facing stereo speakers
        XZ: Water resistant.

The S4 to me is pretty much just loaded with useless gimmicky crap I'll never need, use or want. HTC ones speakers would be great but at the end up the day if I want to listen to music on my phone it'll be on an external speaker or headset. Water resistant is the most practical and likely to save my rear end at some stage, experience has taught me this.

  • I would love this phone- but having handled it yesterday, for me it's just too bulky. Very square edges makes it very noticable in pocket…
