  • We used to get these from logitechshop for around $30-$35 all the time during their almost fortnightly sales
    :(

Sadly logitechshop don't do huge sales like they used to anymore.

    • Yeah wonder what happen to them and their good sales they used to have!

They stopped after the Flingshot pricewar. Musta got in trouble from up top

    • How many do you have?!

    • This ebay seller looks like it IS the logitechshop!

      • It is the eBay store of logitechshop.

A quick check of Static Ice shows that $39 is pretty much RRP

Logitech shop are the same deal

    http://www.logitechshop.com.au/logitech-harmony-650-remote.h…

    • This one is from logitechshop. Look at the logo in the thumbnail

    • Yeah $39 at a few places as Static Ice shows, I recently bought one at $37.05 by getting Officeworks to price beat CPL.

I guess it's still a good deal with the free shipping.

Just a warning about the Harmony remotes I've had 4 of them over the last few years and each have stopped working between 1-1.5 years… Even my latest Harmony ONE remote which I purchased 14 months ago randomly turns off and doesn't turn back on most of the time in the last month or so.

    • I had that issue it turned out the battery pin for Negative was bent in after some one dropped it so that could be your problem so maybe try bend it out on one of the dead ones :)

      • Ahhk thanks ill check it out

I have experienced the same. The headaches Logitech remotes have given me in the past only prove that I'm a sucker for punishment.
For those that are not aware, the software used requires an internet connection and an account with Logitech in order to configure the remote. The interface is slow, clunky and frustrating. Using an internet connection and a password to configure the remote is dumb.
It probably will not be a problem for anyone here but there is no support for Linux users (It's Logitech).

I found some software for Linux called 'congruity' that is supposed to allow programming of the remote under linux in conjunction with a web browser and the logitech site. I haven't tried it yet, but will over the next week or so once I switch over from a popcorn hour media player to a ubuntu htpc and need to reprogram a device.

        • congruity is good but it's not the 'full package' so to speak. You still need to jump online to create a configuration file for your remote. congruity basically does all of the programming, backup etc… For what it is, its a great app.

      • I actually like the cloud based nature of these remotes. The interface can take getting used too though.

I love mine, would be lost without it.

Oh, I've had just the one Logitech 525 remote for nearly years (Originally for the XBMC, then the tv, now the tbox) it's actually worked flawlessly.

The windows update program is clunky, but it works.

      • this is pretty much my experience too. although I think mine might be a 515. Keep it simple, and it works (once you spend the time trudging through the horrid software to set it up in the first place).

        • Yep, couple of 525's in my house, as well as another I bought for someone else, still going strong after a few years.

Wouldn't mind a Harmony Touch though, maybe when the price drops a little more.

JB HI-FI has this remote for $89. They must be selling way above RRP. That's quite a ripoff compared to this price.

  • cheers OP, been watching these hover at $49. on ebay.

I have had two Logitech remotes and haven't had any issues. If you can bear the not-so-ideal-borderline-cumbersome configuration software, they actually work very well.

  • I just got one from OW priced match last week.

Lurving the remote, just need to wait for better price to stock up!

  • +1

Out of curiosity - why do people stock up on these remotes? Different rooms/TVs?

    • +2

I buy one everytime it gets listed here.

  • Another happy Harmony user here…have 3 in total, one of which is at least 4 years old and still going strong.

It takes a bit of time to set them up, but it is easily worth it ;)

  • Just go all in and pay $200 for the Touch. I like my touch pretty cool.

  • Eh, tired of current remote which doesn't work half the time, so I'll try this out.

  • Awesome was looking for a harmony last night online!

  • How are these for old people? My mum has 3 or 4 remotes, but she can barely use those…

    • I don't think they will be able to figure it out all by themselves if you just give it to them. But if you configure it and teach them how to use it, yes, I think they could use them.

      • +1

If they've got multiple devices, and you configure it for them, it could be much easier once they understand the idea of "Activities".

The biggest problem, being IR only, is that if a device misses a command the sequence goes out of sync (if its a toggle command) and they might get confused on how to fix it.

There is a help button on the remote that asks questions about what is on or off etc to help sort it out (but in the case of my missus, seems thats too much trouble)

Once they know that the remote is sending multiple commands and that they should keep it pointed at the devices until its finished, usually have less trouble with missed commands though.

  • By the way, would anyone be able to help me with this issue: I have an energy saving board which requires me to press the power button for the TV twice to turn it on. So whenever I start an "Activity" everything turns on except the TV. Any way to solve this by somehow getting the remote to send 2 signals to the TV?

    • +1

You can do this with a Harmony remote. You need to create a 'sequence'. In that sequence you will need to add whatever your TV On command is twice in order for your power board to turn on the TV and then bring your TV out of standby. Hope this helps.

      • Another option is pick a random remote to add to your harmony, program the power board to wake on that command and add that to your activity, the downside being that only your harmony will be able to wake the power board..

        • Thanks for the tips! But can a 'sequence' be put under an 'activity' button? And I dunno about programming the power board because it's just a default one that is supposed to respond to any remote's signals.

But I haven't had time to try anything yet, will play around with it soon.

        • OK, in that case even easier, just add a random device that wont conflict with your real ones and make sure that gets sent at the start of the activity.

  • I like and purchase from Logitechshop, but they appear to sell "old stock" of the 650 as they all tend to have the battery/negative pin issue.

None of the ones I get from JB/Officeworks price matched for myself/friends/family seem to exhibit this problem.

It's well documented problem with this model remote, google it. Logitech have no official fix. Either have to RMA the remote, disable Remote Assistant, or jam cardboard/bend battery terminals, otherwise they reset/turn off the remote every time you pick it up, put it down or wave your hand suddenly.

    • when was the last time you ordered from them? could this just be a bad batch?

  • Ah, I love Logitechshop. Ordered yesterday, arrived today.

  • i think they have lower the price to $34 incl delivery.
    Same supplier.
