Not available anywhere in Melbourne for all three models:(

    • Look closer the one I posted 11" Air 1.6GHz $599.25 delivered and in stock but not in store. 13" 1.7GHz 256GB SSD also in stock for delivery by the time I posted this deal but now seem gone.

      • -1

No home delivery on the 13" you mention - only click and collect

        • By the time I posted they have.

          Be Quick.

  • 11" available for delivery but 13" no stock on dicksmith cbd…

  • +1

    I can't find a single 13" anywhere…
I challenge someone to find a store with stock!

  • +1

    11" is tempting

  • Just ordered the 11" 2011 model, have an iphone 5 and needed a simple small lappy may as well get a mac at this price.

    • +1

And it looks like it was the last one! Post back here if you get a call from DSE customer service in a day or two saying er…we didn't actually have it in stock.

      • Yep, order confirmed email/payment the lot on the 15"mbp. Called them today and they have no stock…

  • -3

    Sorry, I gotta neg.

Looks like there may have been one or two for delivery (which would be insufficient quantity anyway)
Now all are click and collect only but I am yet to see a single store with any stock.

(Find a store with stock and I'll remove my neg)

    • +13

There was stock for delivery when posted, why neg if you missed out?
DSE doesn't give OzB visibility of stock levels >1 so we can only either choose to post deals that show up as available for delivery, or not.
I'd rather see deals that run out quickly than potentially miss out on a deal because it wasn't posted because of negs.

        • +3

I've got 1 in SA.. Agree that they might only have less than 10 nation wide and thus may be a valid reason to neg but I, personally, thanked OP for posting this as i wouldnt get it otherwise

        • +3

Tell me where you can check they have stock levels >10 or <10.

If you can't tell remove your neg, also please remember I am not REP I couldn't tell.

skayper, good on you somebody actually bought it.

        • -4

Tell me where you can check they have stock levels >10 or <10.

The fact that it is not available for delivery and a store with stock is yet to identified tells me that stock levels are <10

I have no problem with you posting the 'deal', but when it can't be bought then it ceases to be a deal.
No personal beef with you though superforever (I did say sorry first up). Pleased you tried and acknowledged the stock gamble in the desciption, and its all the better if someone got one.

        • +3

You really should go read the voting guidelines before you act like you know them verbatim :)

        • +2

By the time I posted it, it was available for free delivery.

        • +3

you don't know how many people actually managed to get one. The fact of it is, the majority of those clicks probably come from non-members. People who don't engage in the ozbargain community but access the deals posted. Not everyone who got one will post about it.

        • -1

Dude don't try and neg in accordance with the guidlines.
The real Ozbargainers don't accept that as a real reason.

        • +1

I got negged because of thanking OP for my purchase??! lol!!!

        • Oh no. Your comment was a good and fair comment (sincerely).

        • @Skayper: I didn't neg your comment or any from superforever

  • +3

They have posted a lot of bargain today but most are not in stock.

    What are they thinking?

  • i got one for home delivery. But that was possibly a minute or two when the deal was posted. Fingers crossed and hope they honour the deal

  • Vic seems to be completely sold out.
    I don't suppose they'd offer rein checks. D:

    • +6

Too late after your horse has bolted.

  • +4

These are older models..that is 2011 models, as they feature the Intel 3000 graphics chip…the new ones have Intel 4000 graphics chip.

  • +1

Had the 15" macbook pro in cart and went to paypal, finished checkout then was listed out of stock =(

  • +8

Typical Dick Smith bait and switch, no stock anywhere just like Starcraft 2 and the Creative speakers last week.

Soon as I see Dick Smith's name on a deal I know there's no chance of getting it! …unless it's eneloops

    • +4

It would be bait and switch if a dick rep posted it.

      This is just annoying.

    • +3

      Or peanut butter

new (albeit late 2011) i7 mpb for $899 seem cheap as well? good luck with stock though.

  • Unbelievably good price.

  • +2

Someone from DSE hates OzB much that he will post non-existing deals to increase site traffic. 2 birds 1 stone :)

  • How much is the $599 model usually cost? Got one on hold, apparently it has been centric fixed? or something.. because it wasn't charging so there's 2 chargers in the box. It also says it needs reformating and their not sure if its been done or not. I have not a clue how to use a mac book.

    • I'd pass, most of your problems with a MacBook will be navigational and terminology, once you're up to date you will love it, though you can get a lot of silly errors that are a google search away lol

  • I've got 1 on hold.. I was advised that it is refurbished. It doesn't say so on the web? Wondering whether I should cancel it or not

    • +1

i'll take it off your hands….

  • This is an illusion..DSE has how many, 3 stocks across the country maybe. failed

  • +2

    Is $XXX.25 DSE's version of Target's $XXX.83?

  • Would have loved a 15"MBP for $899 if there was any stock!

  • Getting a little annoyed with tricky Dickie's deals - sucks us into website & never enough in stock for click & collect, plus no delivery = an unethical salesperson ploy to me.

    • +13

I'm getting a little annoyed with people thinking they have the right to whatever they want at whatever quantity they want simply because it's posted on OzBargain.

It's not a salesploy as they aren't advertising it as a sale item.

For heavens sake, you have 200 of something from 2011, you sell 197 of them, and decide to offer the remaining 3 at a cheap price. Just because we're OzBargainers doesn't grant us the right to say "it's not fair if only three people can get one, you must have enough for all of us."

There is no wrongdoing here on Dick Smiths part.

      • I agree with you wholeheartedly, but isn't that what the neg is for? If something is so short on stock that no one gets it, we neg, that way ppl don't waste there time trying and can see from the front page that its a waste of time.

to say that it shouldn't be negged is like saying everyone should be wasting their time chasing pipe dreams. Are there any other repercussions to negging that I don't know about/havent mentioned?

        • +4

I agree with what you say - but I didn't say it shouldn't be negged. Didn't mention negs at all, actually :-)

As I said, I'm annoyed at this "expectation" that some people have of stores having unlimited stock of items to sell, possibly at a loss, to anyone who happens to look at OzBargain.

It doesn't meet the guidelines of OzBargain, but as has been pointed out in the thread, we don't know stock levels so we generally don't have any idea when posting such a deal. Imagine how people would get grumpy at the OP if he found this, there were 200 in stock, and OzBargainers missed out because non-OzBargainers bought the stock. Then he pops up and says, Oh, I saw this three weeks ago.

A deal is a deal, and this was a damn good one for the handful of people that got it. The lack of quantity means it's not suitable for front page OzBargain, that's all.

We almost need another type of vote - pos/neg/good deal for a lucky few

          Cheers

        • +2

There is the Out of Stock update to stop people wasting time. No need to neg the deal.

        • -1

I would disagree, I don't see why you can't neg a deal I'd its out of stock in 5 minutes, if someone thinks that makes the deal suck, fair play.

the neg is for the deal, not the OP, so why does it matter beyond that? A deal with plenty of stock is better than a deal with little stock, and the votes display this

        • I don't see why you can't neg a deal I'd its out of stock in 5 minutes

thats what the expired button is for…

        • Sure we agree on the use of the expired button, but the simple fact is 1 MacBook at 699 isn't as good as 200 @ 699. Hence neg, and no hard feelings.

I am starting to feel like this is turning into 'duck season, rabbit season', so that's it for me

        • Then don't argue a lost case, simple fact is until you do know how many there were or you can prove OP is a dick smith employee you have no valid reason to neg

  • No luck in WA, all out of stock. Orz….

  • -1

Isn't worth your time! Get this off the front page, stock doesn't exist!

  • +2

    Please, no more DSE deals.

  • Too many deals from Dick Smith with no stock nowadays. Same goes for Target!

    • +3

Pretty much all snatched up by employees first…

  • +1

How do u guys find such deals? I always see good deals getting posted from dicksmith, although rarely in stock lol. I just went to their website and on the front page only shows like 8-12 deals, but nothing of the magnitude I've seen on OzB eg Nintendo ds etc.. Is there a specific place on the website where it shows all the deals? Or do u guys specifically check each department for them? Eg. Tv, games etc

    • +1

I've seen worse from DSE, under prev owners, eg:

Offering a deal but having only "repaired" or "returned by Customer" stock
-but- demanding same price as if New (the advertised condition).

This doesn't wash on eBay, &
      it shouldn't be acceptable here.

Having -no- stock is about as bad.

(See my suggestion for a work-around, below.)

  • +1

Marking this as expired unless there is proof this is in stock at some stores.

  • no stock national wide.

  • -4

Yet ANOTHER No-Got-Stock vacuous "deal" from DSE…

    fostering excitement… then disappointment…

    Subtle pro-Apple marketing by DSE?

I think bigger companies, like DSE
need bigger expectations before their deals go live here

Eg, at least 20 of each deal item per State / Territory
AND an expressed willingness to ship when local store have none

I, for one, feel this'd be
    a fair "price" to pay
for akk their "free ad's" on OzB.

    • +8

It's not a "deal" posted by DSE.

A fellow ozbargainer found a cheap price on something and decided to share it with the community.

  • -2

Good deal op, but I hate it when DSE does this.

  • -2

Neg - 3 times in a row they post a "bargain" and no one has managed to get anything.

    • +6

3 times in a row they post a "bargain"

Tho is "they"? Its not dick smith posting this… its members of the ozb community

      • Ozb community does good posting these deal, but it's the company which i referred to as "they".

        • +2

"They" reduced the price of some old items.

          That's all "they" did.

        • At least three comments said they had purchased.

        • +1

3 of of the 2350 clicks and counting upward ? Sound like a fair trade for me.

  • -1

hate this kind of situation, well played DSE…

  • Not gonna neg, but in future better to check for stock before posting "these" types of bargains which only less than 0.1% have access to.

    • +6

By the time I posted it, it can get it delivered online and there is no way to check how many in stock from DSE we all knew that.

  • +2

more like no stock rather than out of stock

    • +1

  • +1

    Another legendary Dicks myth deal

  • Dick Smith always uses the same trick, with low price but no stock. Nasty.

  • Same with officeworks. Please dont be suprised or expect too much

  • +3

We should not post any Dick Smith deals on this site now, this has happened so many times that its not funny anymore

    • +2

If you checked the first few posts I think somebody actually got it.

    • Maybe we can ban dse deals here, and then you can set up a DickBargain and they can all go up on that for the people that still want to see them?

      • …or would they? The browser history would look quite questionable with "*.dickbargain.com.au" :P

        • Maybe bargaindick is better?

  • Dammit DSE. Not happy

  • +2

OP don't take it personally. It's a good deal if they had some but they don't :(

  • +1

At least I should thank OP made me go checking to dse north syd. Came out carrying $89.50 creative gigaworks t3 speaker (normal price is $184 from staticice). If anyone looking they still have 3 left. Might be gone by now.

    • I saw it by the time I posted the T6160 but didn't realize staticice is $184.

  • -1

If there's no stock, that means NO deal!

    • -1

But it does exist because you just posted a comment in that deals thread, grab a napkin homie… You just get served!

    • +2

It is a bargain, you want them to wait for you to get it.

I would say if nobody buy it than it is not a bargain and not worth to post it here even cheap and have stock.

  • I picked up the last one from Mt Durrit NSW, they told me they had none in stock over the phone so I went to the store and asked again, and they had one but did not want to sell to me, excuse given was that they already sold it over the phone, which is BS because DSE don't allow that. I am really sick and tired of what DSE staff do and would love to make a complaint to ACCC.

  • If it was Dick Smith actively promoting these deals via advertisements & their website, then there is something really wrong with how they operate.

HOWEVER, this is not the case and it is Ozbargainers posting their OWN deals that they have FOUND on Dick Smith online or in one of the stores.

Instead of bagging a company and having a whinge because you 'could not see stock' why not spend that time looking for your own deal and making sure you get one that is in stock…

  • +1

I got the last Mac book pro in wa from Fremantle this morning. A guy put it on hold but didn't pick it up so I called and put it aside for me. Whooo cheap for $900
