Not exactly ice cream machine, it is a Gelato Machine, slightly different, in how it is made.
Gelato requires a slower spinning machine, as it doesn't require that much air to be put into the mixture due to the higher milk content.

Also I think the temperature is higher for a Gelato and lower for ice cream.

It is a good price though, for a machine with has a compressor, most machines at this price range uses a freezable bowl as the cooling source.

    • are you sure gelato isnt just 'ice cream' in italian

/will this make ice cream aswell?

    • it is a Gelato Machine, slightly different,

Not been to Italy, have you :-)
      wbeer is right.

    • Tomatoes and tomato's

      en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gelato‎
Gelato is the Italian word for ice cream, derived from the Latin word "gelātus." ( meaning frozen). Gelato is made with milk, cream, various sugars, and flavoring …

    • Gelato is Italian for ice cream.

      @manic: yes I've been there

      • +3

Yes Gelato is Italian for ice cream. I know that.
However how you make Gelato is slightly different to how you make what most know as Ice Cream.

As explained above, there is a slight difference to how it is made due to the higher milk content in Gelato and the lower Air content.

Its not just tomatoes and tomatos…. its the difference between American football and Australian football and soccer. LOL

It will still make ice cream, but just wont be as puffy and soft as buying one which is specifically made to make Ice Cream.

        • Iplau is right. Gelato also tends to be churned up and down, and slower, rather than regular ice cream. The texture is also different, as a result. From watching the Youtube video, it seems like it comes out the right consistency, and seems to chill enough. The 150W drawn might just be for the motor; my Gelateria is 600W, but the motor sucks and stops churning as soon as it gets the slightest bit cold.

        • Different between ice cream vs gelato http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_0VWqluRWsI

    • Yes that's right - Less air is whipped into Gelato's to create the smooth and creamy consistency when compared with the light and fluffy texture of an Ice Cream. Commercial machines use large cooling systems to set the gelato quicker which reduces the churning required.

Youtube video showing the unboxing and use of the machine (not in english but still a decent video).

  • Yay, now we don't have to pay $82 for gelato. http://www.theage.com.au/travel/travel-news/rome-tourist-rip…

  • +1

cant buy coz dont understand italian and google translate not working. 800g seems a bit small though

    • +3

Thatis nearly half a family size tub. How big a cone do you want!

    • 1.5 Litres apparently..

Almost sounds like this might whip a little from that conversion. 800g=1.5L
If so, it's a bargain machine.
I have the Sunbeam equivalent and it just churns so all you get is a solid lump, not whipped, fluffy ice-cream.
(Having said that, it looks incredibly similar to the Sunbeam model, Sunbeam also call theirs a Gelati maker… so I suspect there is more marketing than reality to the claim)

    • OT, but I also had "google translate not working"

So I turned off all my extensions (chrome browser), it started working. Then I turned them back on 1 by 1 to work out which one was causing the problem, and now they're all back on, and translate still works (again). Weird, but good.

      I suspect it was evernote.

  • You can make ice cream that says why make 31 flavours if you can get vanilla right

  • 800g? since when is ice cream sold by weight? ice cream is cold whipped cream, and whipped=full of air!
re postage, no standard post to Oz, priority, euros 14 + 6 per kg, express 30 + 8 per kg, how much does this weigh?

    • 11kgs

    • It's a Euro thing. They usually sell ice cream by weight.

  • $53 delivered. but with only 1 Estonian review that I could find I'll give it a miss.

"We work incredibly tasty mango sorbet. Sorbet making is relatively simple - no need to cook something or nervous that maybe goes together. However, we test the ice machine Ardes TK90. Ice Machine is a convenient, maybe that produces its large collection of very small amounts of sorbet. Miniature fridge anyway!"

    next lowest price 113euro

    • +2

hey, don't knock Estonians, they invented Skype after all.

      • And they make tasty tasty rollmops. Mmm.

  • +1

I couldn't resist. All my willpower for the day was used up in not buying the Rancilio Silvia.

Came to 41.59 euro for me, including shipping, so $53.56 (according to google when you type in "41.59euro in aud"; much easier than finding a decent forex site)

Even if it doesn't perform so well (or I turn into a lardo by eating too much gelato), I'm sure I can ebay it for a profit.

  • Looks pretty good

    • This article is not yet available.

    • Complete your order and send you an email with an estimated delivery date as soon as we know when it will be available.

Um, I'll wait till it's in stock.

  • I'm wondering whether this should be marked out of stock.
I was interested except I can't find any reviews on this. For all I know this thing is dodgy as hell. 150 watts seems a bit too little for something with an engine and a compressor.

    • The Motor is only 30W at most.
So that leaves 120W for another motor to drive the tiny compressor which sounds feasible.

  • OMG Thanks OP.

  • -1

Anything comes with over 71% discount, don't expect it will turn on!

    • Yeah but gelato is going out of fashion, that's why it is cheap, all the actual ice cream machines cost more

  • I'm in the market for a good ice cream machine but can't commit to this random brand/machine. Might do some hunting on Amazon.it for a product with more reviews

Is this the same machine??? For 190 EURO

    • Probably…
The Sunbeam compressor model also looks incredibly similar…
Probably all come out of the same factory in China.

      • The Sunbeam one blows. I have one, and almost every review you'll find on the net says that the motor becomes super weak after a while. I bought the one in this deal because I'm sick of having to churn the last 15 minutes by hand. Steer well clear of the Sunbeam, if you were considering it.

    • Also known as DCG brand model IC4999

  • Reckon the electricity consumption on this is worth it to making your own ice cream? I mean more economical?

    • +2

Usually ingredients itself will cost you more than the factory made gelato. And electricity is extra.
So it's more for fun / dietary / other reasons. :)

      • +1

        no way. A shop-bought gelato costs ~$4, and has maybe 150gm. I doubt you'll use $20 of ingredients in a 800gm batch (800/150 gm ~= 5 => 5x$4=$20)

        • +1

Not if you buy it at the Supermarket…
          You might pay $5/L

    • +1

Electricity consumption for a batch of gelato won't cost more than 40 to 80 cents. I think it is more for the fun or other dietary reasons that some people may want to make it at home. Just like home breadmaker, it probably costs less to buy the bread then to make it yourself, but people still do it (also less now).

  • Bargain if they get shipped, pretty funny that shipping is so low, I bought a few for presents. $50 for a standalone gelato maker, WIN! Shipping is the same price for 2 items by the way. Now I can run two at a time :)

  • Grazie, il tuo ordine è stato completato.

I couldn't resist! I'm sure there are 100s of recipes for good gelato online can't wait to try them all….

  • I'm a little concerned over the "150W" power rating; means its either a very lame compressor, or (worse still) a peltier cooler. The youtube video hade it coming out of the machine pretty sloppy (implying not very cold), plus the stirrer is very lightweight/craptastic.

If it turns out to be not in stock I'll probably cancel my order.

  • +1

It's an amazing price… just bought 3 to be delivered to family in Italy (free delivery in Italy). Yes I am Italian, so let me know if you need help with translation :)

  • +1

Awesome. Got 2 of them. Found a couple of reviews in the positive so I am happy.

  • +3

This ozbargain addiction has to stop. I can't believe I just bought an ice cream maker from Italy. Thanks OP!

    • that is probably the best place to buy one from mate!

wonder if they have any good pizza or pasta makers

      • yes but you make pizzas by hand. pasta makers well, that also depends on the hands but machines come into the equation too i guess.

  • +1

I already have a non compressor based ice cream maker and yes it costs a lot more to make your own then what you can buy at shops. But I love making ice cream at home hence ordered it - so now I have 2 machines :)

  • which shipping method should i choose? it does not show what the total cost is including shipping. goes straight to payment and credit card details??

    • just before you submit the order it will give you shipping options. default is the quicker (expensive) shipping, just change it to the slower method.

      • 30 Euro for expedited shipping (3-5 days) and 14 Euro for regular (12-15, I believe). Probably not worth express if it's not in stock, anyway.

  • +1

Bought one hopefully it ships. Been wanting to buy an affordable ice cream maker but didn't want the ones with freezer bowls.

  • 2 of my friends also bought this - Thanks OZB

  • after paying it came to 27.59 ero plus 14 delivery? i thought it was 33.38?
damn i hope this gets delivered safely…fingers crossed

    • Still equates to 41.59euro which is what I paid for ~$53

  • Can I make frozen yogurt with this?

  • +1

    Bought.

Re: the ice cream vs gelato argument. From the book 'Science and Lore of the Kitchen' by Harold McGee: "Standard or Philadelphia Ice Cream is made from cream and milk, sugar and a few other minor ingredients [flavouring] … it's appeal is the flavour of the cream, complimented by vanilla [etc.]." … "French or custard ice cream contains an additional ingredient: egg yolks, as many as 12 per litre. The proteins and emulsifiers in egg yolks help keep ice crystals small and the texture smooth, even at relatively low milk-fat and high water levels .. a distinct style of custard ice cream is Italian Gelato, which is typically high in butterfat as well as egg yolks, and frozen with little over-run into a very rich, dense cream. The name simply means 'frozen' in Italian and is applied to a range of frozen preparations."

  • Bought - extremely cheap if true. Thanks OP! If it's a mistake doesn't bother me too much. Worth it to try.

We own one that you have to freeze and paid $100 for it!

  • First time post for me, but I speak a bit of Italian. At that page I see "Questo articolo non è ancora disponibile" - translated, that means "this article is no longer available"

    • google translate told me it means "This article is not yet available"

  • Not available yet, but they will send an email when in stock and ready to be delivered.

  • Ordered one. Hope it doesn't ship too long from now! Seems a decent machine for ~42euros

  • +3

Through trial and error I found that you can buy 28 of these with the same €14 shipping total before "Luggage importation costs" kick in.
    OzBargain group buy, anyone? :D

  • Couldn't help myself, it should arrive by summer? Yum Yum. Ciao.

  • Two questions:

    1. Do they charge now, or only if it can be delivered?
    2. So was settled - can it make ice cream too?
    • Amazon would not charge your card until they ship the item.

  • says this in the description jest below the price

Se prenoti ora, effettueremo la consegna non appena arriverà.
Venduto e spedito da Amazon. Confezione regalo disponibile.

    translates to

If you book now, will make the delivery as they arrive.
And sold by Amazon. Ordering for Christmas

bit of a worry waiting till xmas ????????

  • +1

That doesn't translate Christmas but, gift wrapping available on request ;)

  • Confirmation email after you purchase the ice cream machine says:

Data di consegna prevista: Una volta in possesso di una data di consegna prevista procederemo ad una notifica via e-mail. Verrà spedito separatamente. Puoi annullare in qualsiasi momento.

Delivery date: Once we have a delivery date we'll notify you by email. Item will be dispatched will follow. You can cancel at any time.

    Hope this helps

  • Sorry that didn't come out right…
Item will be dispatched separately (I guess it means they give you some time to cancel if you want to…)

  • Sorry, meant to say: "So was IT settled - can it make ice cream too?"

The reason I ask is, I've been reading about the differences between ice cream and gelato. Apparently one effect of the stirring is it keeps ice crystals from forming - and apparently gelato doesn't harden like ice cream. The pages I was reading (talking about ice cream) said to finish off the freezing process in a freezer - but if gelato is softer again - then I guess ice crystals would form.

Makes the decision to purchase this more difficult. (I've been wanting the Sunbeam compressor one for years - well, that is until someone mentioned above churning by hand.)

  • Hope it doesn't take forever to be shipped.

Ardes TK90 Instructions (from the manufacturer's user manual):

    Power 150 watts, 240v
    Weight 11.4kg
    Dimensions (LxWxH): 280 x 300 x 390 mm
Aluminum 1.5 litre, can produce up to 800 grams of ice cream.

Place the ice cream maker near a power supply socket on a flat, stable surface, without obstructing the circulation of air at the sides (at least 10 cm away from walls or objects).

Remove the motor unit (2). Remove the cover (3) by turning it in an anticlockwise direction and remove the paddle (7) and removable cover (6).

Prepare the ingredients and pour them into the removable canister. The ingredients should be chilled to refrigerator temperature. Do not use warm ingredients.

Do not fill the removable canister more than halfway (no more than 800 g). The volume of the ice cream will fill the canister during the last few minutes of preparation.

Pour approximately 30ml of cooking alcohol (approximately 23g) into the fixed cylinder (this is necessary to transfer the cold from the fixed cylinder to the removable canister and ensure the successful outcome of the ice cream).

WARNING: the alcohol should be poured into the fixed cylinder and not mixed with the ingredients.
Insert the removable canister into the fixed cylinder. Insert the paddle and replace the cover, making sure that the paddle gearing juts out of the hole in the cover. Lock the cover by turning it in a clockwise direction. Replace the motor unit (2).

Plug in the machine. The power supply light (13) will illuminate.
Start the chilling process by pressing the chill button (11). The display will show the countdown and the appliance will stop mixing when it reaches the end.

WARNING: the appliance is equipped with a refrigeration compressor safety device, so the compressor will start a few minutes after it has been switched on.

The chill light (14) will illuminate when the chilling process starts.

Press the mix button (12) to start and stop the paddle. User the timer button (10) to set the mixing time automatically. The time can be set to 15, 30 and 50 minutes.

WARNING: the mixing time can be adjusted only while the paddle is operating; pressing the timer button will not change the time if the paddle is not operating.

    GENERAL INFORMATION
The preparation time may vary depending upon the room temperature and the temperature and type of ingredients, The higher the temperature the longer the preparation time.

For example, if the room temperature is around 20-22°C and the ingredients
are at refrigerator temperature, the preparation time will be approximately 30 minutes.

The time can be reset to the desired time during preparation.
After the set time has elapsed, the mixer will stop automatically and the machine will beep.

The machine will continue to chill but it will stop automatically after it has been operating for 70 consecutive minutes.

The chilling phase may be interrupted during the preparation phase by pressing the chill button (11), in which case the mixer will stop and the machine will beep.
The chilling phase can be started again by pressing the chill button (11).
Chocolate chips, raisins, sesame seeds, ground almonds and other ingredients may be added during the preparation phase by opening the cover.

Add alcohol and liqueurs only at the end of the preparation phase to prevent them from prolonging the chill phase.

When the ice cream has reached the correct consistency, the paddle will slow down until it locks up. At this point, stop the blade by pressing the mix button (12) even if the countdown has not finished, and stop the chilling phase by pressing the chill button (11). When the preparation phase is finished,
switch off the machine and unplug it.

Do not leave the ice cream in the appliance for too long. Store the ice cream in the freezer in a covered container. Remove the removable canister and scoop out the ice cream using a plastic palette knife or wooden spoon to prevent damaging the interior of the removable cylinder.

A few minutes after removing the ice cream and when the removable canister has reached room temperature, wipe off the ice cream and alcohol residues with a damp cloth and dry well.

Use a paper towel to wipe off the alcohol residue from the fixed cylinder. Do not turn the appliance upside down to wipe off the residue. Clean all the parts that come into contact with the alcohol (fixed cylinder and exterior of the removable canister) with a soft, damp cloth.

  • Hm… It's been removed from sale.

"Some items are no longer available. We are sorry. Some items you have added to your basket are no longer available. You can return to the product details page to try another supplier. This item is no longer available from the selected vendor."

  • What n where can I buy cooking alcohol?

  • The manufacturer has advised that you can use a liquid with high percentage of alcohol as whisky, grappa, vodka.

  • whisky or vodka? that's a bit much!!..lols.

I wonder if I can substitute with 70% Rubbing Alcohol (Isocol)?!?

  • I don't suppose anyone's gotten an update yet from Amazon with a delivery date for their orders…?

    • Nope

  • Stevo - I was also thinking Isocol, will have to wait and see

    • great minds think alike :). I can get 20L 70% Isocol for $99!!.

    • Can't we just use methylated spirits? Which is like $3/L from bunnings (in 4L quantities)

One of the ingredients used in Methylated spirit is Ethanol which is poisonous.

        • ????? Personally I would much rather drink ethanol (you know the alcohol in beer / wine / spirits) than isopropyl which is far more poisonous.

It's all a moot point because from what I gather it's just be to used as a heat conductor.

"Cooking Alcohol" that the manufacturer refers to would most definitely be ethanol as I wouldn't put any other alcohol in my cooking.

Sure you can't drink methylated spirits as it's purposely got an additive that is poisonous to humans so people don't but it's like 99% ethanol so for all intents and purposes is chemically the same as ethanol.

Methylated spirits is named so as it used to contain small amounts of Methanol to stop people consuming it but they stopped doing that because it killed too many people - the additive in Methylated spirits now wont kill you it will just give you a splitting headache and make you throw up.

"Around 15 g of isopropyl alcohol can have a toxic effect on a 70 kg human if left untreated."

By my calculations around 400g of ethanol would be toxic for a 70kg human.

  • Isocol only has 70% alcohol and 30% water(also known as rubbing alcohol). Synonyms: Isopropyl alcohol; sec-propyl alcohol; isopropanol; sec-propanol; dimethylcarbinol

    • I buy isocol 70% supply from Okay and they have great service. My local JCar stores only sells 100% Isocol. Woolies/Coles/Chemists do stock Isocol (Green Croc brand)and they are only 64% alcohol and pricey for a small bottle.

  • Has anyone received their gelato machine yet? I've ordered two and heard nothing.

    • Nope, still haven't heard anything either - I don't suppose anyone's tried following it up with Amazon…? I'd been hoping that since it's been so long, that they weren't looking to cancel/refund…

      • I'm hoping things just happen slowly in Italy but do happen eventually.

    • This could bite me in the bum… I've already told my daughter she's getting an icecream maker for her birthday, so if this gets cancelled, looks like I'll be hunting down an (albeit much more expensive) alternative..

  • Ok, so I ended up e-mailing Amazon and got this as a response (note, I had placed the order when it was showing as still in stock):

"Following your e-mail I have checked your order 404-0057041-6473104 and found that the availability estimate for the item "Sold and dispatched by Amazon" is listed as "Temporarily out of stock". I'm sorry for any inconvenience caused.

When an item is listed as "Temporarily out of stock. Order now and we will deliver when available" this means that we can't predict exactly how long it'll take us to obtain it or when we'll be able to send it to you. After you place your order, we'll do our best to get the item for you.

Please note that whilst we aim to display the most accurate product availability possible, occasionally products can go out of stock.

We'll e-mail you with an estimated delivery date as soon as we have more information from our suppliers, but at the moment we are unable to provide you with an estimate dispatch date as we do not know when it will be available again.

If the order takes too long to meet your needs, you may cancel it at any time before it enters the dispatch process and you won't be charged for it.

I hope this helps. We look forward to seeing you again soon."

    • That, combined with the message I received - means no-one will be getting one.
