    Yep, but until they make paper erasable, this can be more convenient for regular writes and rewrites, especially if mounted on the fridge or wall or given to kids to play with without wasting or cleaning up reams of paper (or markers).

    However, the sealed battery is a no-go for me. I'd rather use a "MagnaDoodle"-type magnetic erasable device, provided I can find one of decent quality (you don't want to know about my recent experiences here, but suffice to say, quality has really gone downhill since I first had one as a kid).

      Where does COTD dig up this stuff? You'd have to use a lot of paper to break even. Now if the board were networked, it might be more useful. Maybe as a kid's toy, but it would be cheaper to get them an etch-a-sketch.

  Basic premise behind this product I think is to replace dry-erase boards and post-it notes. Not really the thing for note-taking because there is no function to export (save) what your wrote — once you erase the board, the writing is gone.

    Yes, no saves, though apparently other models do offer more functionality.

  I doubt you will use $37 of paper for taking down notes in your house(office maybe). Well I thought the notes can be transferred, but can't so really not much point.

    Exaggerated claims, no doubt.

    The battery's time will come, and when it comes you'll be up the proverbial without a paddle unless you want to dissect the thing, because the manufacturer was too greedy to design an easily removable battery cover.

    It may last a while, yes. But 'never needs replacing' is outright exaggeration and totally contradicted by their "over 50,000" erase cycles claim.

  Pretty sadly, this device cannot save your writing/drawing in itself or transferring the work to you computer, so, I don't buy.

    You can use your camera on your mobile to save them and bring the notes with you anywhere. :)

      The first time i ever seen these Boogie Board's was 6 months ago at JFK airport in NY

      Nearly purchase one after testing the demo model in store.. but didn't want to carry it around with me for another 1month+

      They also had some other similar versions… pretty cool store but a lot of expensive stuff :)

  Hmmm. Interesting item and I could see it up on my Kitchen wall for leaving a silly message every now & then but yeah not for $50 :( Battery is supposed to last 50,000 erases. In paper terms of course that's 25,000 sheets of A4 if both sides are used so that's 50 reams. At about $4 a ream that's $200 worth so a device like this for $50 sounds good 'on paper'… BUT of course it can't store each of those 25,000 scribbles as easily as paper ;) Still at 50,000 messages that's one message a day for 137 years! Not bad.

  Good find though OP and I'd love to have a play with one but they still need to be cheaper I reckon. I'd love to get one purely to prove that the battery IS in fact replaceable tho :) Can't be that hard surely?!?

    The other model, the The Jot 8.5 is the only one with a battery cover allowing the battery to be replaced.

    In the PDF manual (for this model on sale here), they say:

    I searched for the term battery in the PDF and it's not even mentioned. Designed for disposal.
    Though those handy with ripping it apart will no doubt be able to get to it when the time comes.

    Looks like the other model, the Boogie Board Rip doesn't have a removable battery either. From the PDF:

    So after that battery eventually expires and can't hold enough charge, you may have to do-it-yourself (costs being what they are). Strange choice of models, with only one boasting a removable battery cover (Boogie Board Jot 8.5).

    These are selling on Amazon.com cheaper but they can't be sent here. Amazon.co.uk is relatively expensive but may be a bit better with 20% off (no VAT) at checkout; I didn't try. Amazon.de is similarly expensive.

    Might be available elsewhere, I didn't look too much.

    On the flip side, I dont need to dispose of 25,000 pieces of paper if the notes aren't something you want to keep.

    It seems handy, but perhaps a bit unnecessary. I think I'd get a small white or black board before using this or going nuts with note pads to be honest. Realistically, I use my phone for note taking now days anyway and it's pretty rare I need anyone else to read the notes.

  Few things need to be considered here, I would think most people don't write a lot of notes in one day and even if you do does it really equate to pages of a4?

  I have a very small notepad at my desk that I use to brainstorm and write notes, I would use approximately 3-5 pages a day of which maybe 30% of the small pages are used. I have the option to throw them away, keep them in my draw or leave on desk as a reminder note. This archiving action takes 1 second. Easy convenient and no fuss. I see this device as unnecessary for most people.

    I will use my camera from my phone to save the note.

    The rip model not actually save the line strength but just a thin line in a picture format.
    For handwriting note is fine, for drawing.. hmmmm.. maybe no.
