21

Check online seems over $400 everywhere else, if you don't like Pioneer VSX522 this can be another option.

  • Can't see any mention of Networking on the harvey norman site specs, official site or cnet's review.

a USB port is not networking.

    • Yes, looks like they grabbed the headline from the RX-V475.

Agreed. I have downloaded the manual, and there is no network connectivity. The HN advertisement is faulty.

    • Edit- Wrong model

Yes, they may be able to trick a lay person but not a professional.

  • Yep this receiver has no networking features.

  • If you want networking features the Pioneer VSX527 receiver has an ethernet port for $349 from JB HI-FI. Plus you don't need to pay for delivery with this one pickup at a local JB HI-FI store. Wonder how this receiver compared to that Yamaha

  • Specs seem to me to be similar to Pioneer VSX-522-k listed earlier for $100 less

    • Yeah I would suggest the Pioneer unless some said they don't like Pioneer but I am very happy with it.

    • Pioneer VSX-522-k has no networking either.

  • I'm a little unsure about the meaning of pass-through.

If I plugged an Apple TV into this via HDMI, and in turn also had my Sony TV plugged in via HDMI, would the TV still pick-up the Apple TV video and audio if the amp was unplugged from the wall socket (i.e. completely powered down)?

    • No, Pioneer VSX-522 has to be powered on to pass-through HDMI signal, so even if left in standby no pass-through, whereas the Yamaha can be left in stand-by mode and still pass-through HDMI signal.

      • The reason I ask is I wanted to check if it's possible to play the audio just through the TV speakers without having to unplug cables etc. for the times I dont want to use the amp speakers.

      • My reading of Pioneer's spec sheet says it DOES have HDMI pass-thru.

        • It did said Standby through mode here.

But not for my VSX 520 :(

Have a read through the numerous whirlpool threads where people have purchased the 522 to find out it doesn't, only the US models have pass-through hence the spec sheet. People have complained to Pioneer but they refuse to ammend the spec sheet here in Oz. Also worth noting the Subwoofer in their 5.1 speaker pack switches off and on during quiet scenes in movies, which some find annoying as it makes a clicking sound when doing so.

        • Thanks for the valuable info Wind7.

  • Maybe a bit off the topic but I don't know if you guys ever find that the voice in most movies are too low while the background is crazy loud and you can never find a good medium volume?

Whats a good amp that can up the center speaker ? Or is there a easier solution to this issue?

    • from the official yamaha site I linked above for the model this very deal is about:

"Adaptive DRC automatically adjusts the dynamic range of the sound according to the volume level. This ensures that you hear clear dialogue and vocals, and all sound effects at comfortable levels. There is no need to adjust the volume level as you listen; everything from whispers to big explosions will be heard clearly and comfortably at the same volume setting. It also tones down loud TV commercials, and is ideal for low-volume, late-night listening, when you do not want to disturb others."

    • My Pioneer can adjust vol dB on individual speaker, you can just set the centre speaker higher because voice is from the centre if you are playing surround movies.

  • Is this home theatre speaker OK for movie?

ACCUSOUND 5.1 REF 5.5XD +120W SUBWOOFER $459 and how is it compare with Jamo S 426 from Amazon last year special?

  • Yes please some advice on suitable speakers for this amp?

    • Yamaha NS-555 (EF series) speakers are what I'm using.

  • I saw this this Accusound 5.1 Home Theatre Speaker System down to $749 at Harvey Norman today.

    • youre better off getting it from Audio Australia's ebay store.

      http://stores.ebay.com.au/THE-AUDIO-AUSTRALIA-SHOP/Speakers-…

they have 2012 clearance models going for less than half their original price. Some with free shipping too

      • I think the Omega Series from HN is better than Reference series from eBay, right?

        • not sure although you may be right, still using a entry level amp not sure what differences you may hear

        • omega series is entry level, reference series is better, have a look at the Accusound website

  • I bought the 373 last year for around this price. I love it, its great. Good sound.

Im using a combination of JMax fronts, Accusound centre and krix for rears (horrible selection i know) but the total cost me less than $200 and it sounds great.

I would recommend using these for a low price good quality speaker set

    • Is Jamo S 426 better than Accusound Reference Series?

      • not sure although last year when someone posted those up, they were saying a ton of good things about it. Apparently they are made by klipsch. I have an accusound reference centre and its good enough, although i dont have much to compare it to.

  • I saw a Yamaha receiver instore at the Fortitude Valley HN store for $250. Maybe it was ex-display, but it was a great deal for a receiver normally worth $400+
