  • I have this Navman, quite like it, although it has been replaced by Google Navigation on my Android mobile, which I find to be better when it comes to calculating routes.

  • Cheap price for a gps with realtime traffic info, but it has a lot of bad press.

  • Out of stock )=

    • Online only it says for me.

  • Dont quite get it - $40 for a Huawei Y201 at coles (with $12.50 of flybuys back), $15 for a $30 recharge to buy Metroview (and have $10 credit left for other apps) and $5 to unlock it to any network you like (if you want_ and you have one of the nicest GPS units around usability and capability wise, which can also be left in your car to track it in case of theft, and can be used as a black box video etc recorder in case of accident, for half the price.
Standalone GPS doesnt seem to make sense against these options - $60 (plus $12.50 cashback and $20 of telstra credit left) for so much more ability and speed (and a gorgeous nuance voice), just 1 inch less screen.

    • The GPS performance difference is probably so big it's not funny.

      • lol, i wonder how long it takes him to lock onto satellites. I can see him waiting in his car 2+ minutes.

        • never waited more than a few seconds, unlike my fiancee's old nokia.

    • Can you suggest an android app for tracking car theft?

      • the obvious one would be wheresmydroid, tho i have been looking around at others - there are HEAPS of phone trackers

    • A stand alone GPS won't get you booked for using your mobile phone while driving, as dozens of people were a couple of weeks ago, just for using it as GPS in Qld. $330 fine, thankyou very much, and 3 demerit points.

Those who are happy to use their phone, well and good, but the continued criticism here of those who choose to use a stand-alone unit is getting a bit old. To each his own, I say.

Incidentally, the online reviews of this one suggest that you're better saving your money.

      • May not be exactly true Geewhizz according to the laws.
The people who got fined in QLD could be because they are either on their L's or P1 plates.

        According to Vic Roads though:
        http://www.vicroads.vic.gov.au/Home/SafetyAndRules/RoadRules…

L's and P1 plates have full restrictions on their phones, they cannot even use them on hands free.

For other plates, people can use the Phone GPS but must be on a "Commercial" Stand, e.g. not using your hand to hold it LOL.

      • There was no criticism - just surprise that people dont prefer something more capable for less.
I hope they would fine any idiot using a GPS without a holder too!

  • Price is good but not the product. Tons of issues with performance, map update, user support…..

  • Does anyone have links or info on the reviews for this?
A couple of posts have mentioned bad press but I can't seem to find any decent reviews online.

There isn't a product on this earth that you can't go online somewhere and find a negative review about it!

I have used Navman GPS's a for years and haven't had any major issues with any of them and have a couple of friends who have the MY85 and swear by them.

$150 discount is more than a bargain and for that I purchased one to use as a spare if needed.

Find me a GPS that doesn't have any negative reviews??

    • I don't expect NO negative reviews - but ALL of the reviews ARE negative.

      • Google good reviews and you will find them, it's not rocket science!

Chances are people pissed off with a product because they can't work it out or could be clueless will write a negative review.
People who like the product are busy getting on with life enjoying it.

So it's easy to see why more more people go out of their way to write up a negative review of a product.

It's taken me a couple of minutes to find numerous good reviews for the MY85 btw!

  • Owned a Navman before. Never again.

It's unreliable. It got confused and sent me off course. I got lost as a result, and very stressed out. This was in metro area too. It's happened more than once. Never used it again after that.

  • +1

Had a Navman My65T till it was stolen. It was a very good unit, never had any problems as said. Maybe because I updated the map as soon as they are available.

    • wait, you can steal GPSs and not get caught?

      • of course - unlike a phone it has no way to tell anyone where it is lol
