SO you actually have to spend $50. Then later they send you a $50 voucher.

mmm … hav to think about that

Any comments about the quality of the footwear

    • +1

I got a couple pairs a few years ago and they are still in great condition. They feel comfy and the leather ones are great for wet weather. Not sure if the particular pair is sold anymore.

    • Btw, they don't accept returns for change of mind.

      • see the T&C

Printed voucher value may change or voucher may be cancelled if goods are returned

I think, they accept returns on foot-wares.

        • They only accept returns if the product is faulty but not for change of mind.

        • From http://www.rivers.com.au/CustomerFeedbackFAQ.htm

          GENERAL INFORMATION about Refund/Replacement Policy:

Rivers will only accept return of product in certain circumstances.
With any product that you want to return, Rivers reserves the right to assess the condition and age of all returned goods.
This may result in the goods NOT being accepted for return, repair, refund, credit note or exchange.
Subject to your statutory rights referred to above, socks, underwear and swimwear will NOT be accepted for return or exchange unless assessed as faulty.

          Cheers…

Stops people from (cough) buying shoes, claiming deal, getting voucher, but returning shoes for $50 refund.
I've never done anything like that ;)

        • +2

No ozbargainers have ever done anything like that ….which is why i thought it was important to clarify rivers returns policy.

          @WNK: thanks for your deals.I'm a big fan :)

They only accept returns if the product is faulty but not for change of mind.

Heh, well, that won't be too difficult… We were at a Rivers store a few months ago to buy shoes. I'm sick of shoes coming unglued. So I "tested" the quality first, by either bending the rubber lip at the toe (joggers), or, pulling the sole slightly away from the body of the shoe (dress shoes). Every pair I tried, the glue started to separate. Easily.

          I'll bend a few today :-)

        • Edit:No ozbargainers has ever

        • @RFM: they now have 2 year warranty on most shoes. Not bad for a $50 pair of shoes.Thinking of getting some for my men.

        • +1

On shoes over $20 ((from memory))

        • That's good. But I can't help wonder if it's the same as most stores "warranty" nowdays. i.e. You buy one, it's faulty, return for replacement (only - no refund allowed). Second pair comes with zero warranty and also falls apart.

        • No ozbargainer has ever…

        • Merci monsieur Strangeloops :) I stand corrected.

I bought some boat shoes and some shoes for riding from Rivers and they've probably lasted the longest out of any pair of shoes iv ever bought. None ever fell apart. Comfortable also.

    • their stuff does not last well, but at a good price do you care..?

  • For so many posts, you must wait for emails and have OzBargain posting templates at the ready!

Interesting…. I well have to try to get to my local store

I've bought a lot of Rivers stuff online and the quality is good- no complaints. The sizing, however, is problematic. The size you use for a shirt or a pair of shoes on one order that fits you perfectly will be too large the next time. I've given away a lot of what I've bought.

I'm comparing apples with apples, not slim fit to regular fit.

This obviously won't be a problem if you buy from the store.

    • +1

Yes, I agree about the sizing. I shop in store in Tamworth, but it always pays to 'fit before you buy'.

  • Note: more cheap shoes at the Rivers Clearance Stores not in the Premium Stores.

    • Note: offer is valid for any store except online store.
there are many clearance stores in Australia wide i think.
Good to contact and check here

  • Just saw the ad on TV - during Border Security - USA on 7TWO!

  • There stuff are usually very cheap, if you noticed there adds, things sometimes are least half price if memory serves me correctly, the last time I watched Tv was …

a true ozbargainer.. purchase shoes for $50+ get the voucher, return the shoes to A DIFFERENT store within 7 days, get a refund…walk away with 50 bucks in ur wallet ;)

    • +3

How about true ozbargainer also returns voucher since he/she is returning shoes also?

    • As I posted before - it probably won't work, they've closed that loophole :(
You would have spent some time doing all that & if the voucher finally arives after the end of the deal - its for $0!!
A smart OBer reads the T&C before wasting their time. Tight restrictions on returns & voucher takes them into account.

(Stores have had deals that if you bought so much they printed a voucher on the receipt for next purchase. eg tonights $20 for spending $120 at Westfield Brisbane http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/105825 But some people abused the system (cough) & companies learnt their lesson - delaying paying out the voucher.)

  • +1

Thanks OP. I tucked a pair of shoes deep into a shelf a few weeks ago, went back later after checking other shops for similar. Went back to Rivers, shop was closed. Havent had time to go back since.
Now I hope they're still there. Thanks OP for the prompt.

    • +1

Yahoo - they were still there. Now just waiting for my $50 voucher.

      • Great…May be you have forgotten something, i think….:)

  • +1

The online shop choice is huge i do use it for trousers and shoes, however at my local rivers outlet Hurstville the chances of being able to find shoes you like, in your size and having the correct code are slim.

    • Stores usually have all the pairs I don't want. Surprised there are so many online.

      • or the ones you want but not in the size you need.

        • +1

I asked where the sandles were. Got a blank stare & "This is Winter!". Sure, it is so cold in Queensland!

Left with nothing. But did sort through my shoe collection & discovered two pairs of wonderful Italian leather shoes bought at a closing down sale for $20 ea, I had stashed away & forgotten :-) $50 saved!

And used 2 vouchers for free coffee at Coffee Club Brisbane International Airport, and free WiFi (free bus from Rivers at the DFO).

        • Bon voyage, Bruce:)

Edit: What's the difference between 'sandles' and 'sandals'? went into my local Rivers and they had plenty of sandals on sale.

        • my brain on free coffee - oops! Even the spell check on the phone didn't like "sandles". (and no flights for me, yet)
That would be typical for Winter - Sandals in Vic, no sandals in Qld!

  • "Note: offer is valid for @ any store purchases except online store."

Have I got this right? You can buy the qualifying $50 minimum purchase online, but you can only spend the $50 voucher in a store? Or is the whole thing only a physical store deal?

    • +1

You need to purchase items from any physical store. Then fill the form and send the details to Rivers(on given link)for receiving a $50 gift card which can be used to buy Rivers items, online or in-store in future….

  • Have purchased their shoes before.
Okay - although I'm going to give the Everlast ones a go this time.
Worn for a couple of years and holes in the bottom. I do wear them every workday however plus out quite a lot but the sole was way too thin for my liking.

So just be weary. Love their shoes though, hard to find ones like it elsewhere.

  • +2

In my experience with a particular pair of shoes, they were comfy, but the heel had square holes under the outer layer that rendered the shoe useless when the outer layer wore down a little. So beware of the cushioned heel.. it may not be sturdy over time.

  • I used to fully believe in Rivers shoes back in the day when they gave a sole guarantee - those shoes lasted a while.

The last OzB deal I went for for Rivers (which was a couple of years ago), I bought 2 pairs of work shoes and both lasted less than 3 months (each, not consecutively) before the soles or sides of the shoes cracked - I even chose shoes in the classification towards the more durable range.

Oh, and yeah - I never got the voucher from the deal, as the 'online store' waited and processed the order a week later after the deal ended - and a simple query email resulted in what could be classified as blatant disregard for consumers with the tone and language used (over-the-top sarcasm, addressed from the CEO apparently).

So in some respects, thank god it's not he online store, but still……

    • Refund/Replacement Policy from http://www.rivers.com.au/CustomerFeedbackFAQ.htm

Our goods come with guarantees that cannot be excluded under the Australian Consumer Law. You are entitled to a replacement or refund for a major failure and for compensation for any other reasonably foreseeable loss or damage. You are also entitled to have the goods replaced or repaired if the goods fail to be of acceptable quality and the failure does not amount to major failure.

      GENERAL INFORMATION

      PRODUCT ASSERTED TO BE FAULTY

Product asserted to be faulty should be returned to the Rivers Store at which it was purchased or any other Rivers store along with proof of purchase showing the date and purchase price. If you also claim you have suffered any loss or damage due to the alleged fault in the product, you must also provide specific details regarding such loss or damage, including documentation supporting your claim. Please note that only defects appearing within 6 months of the date of purchase are covered by Rivers defect warranty.

      Keep your receipt handy

      • Of course you can still take back defective product beyond the Rivers warranty period, under Australian consumer legislation.

That 6 months is just an additional policy stated as a written warranty. A major failure past 6 months should result in a refund or replacement, and minor issues may be repaired/ replaced. But the length of warranty would depend on the quality & price as to how long a pair could be expected to last.

But by making that warranty, Rivers are saying don't expect our products to last much beyond 6 months.

I have worn $15 Rivers sandles travelling overseas several times. They were comfy, and lasted a few years of constant use. Going back for a few more.

Top company with excellent morals and well worth giving money to help fight legal cases such as:

    http://www.smh.com.au/national/rivers-boss-fights-sex-harass…

    • Damn why did you bring this to our attention?!
You've landed me in a moral dilemma — I liked Rivers.

      • C'mon, he kneeds ya munnay to cook up sum loyyaas (to their TV ad rap-jingle)

Poor Pussy Galore. Not really funny at all is it…in fact sounds outright nasty and over a very long time (allegedly).

      • Rivers currently employ over 6000 staff and is planning to recruit another 1400. @giggles: r u suggesting that we punish all of them (and their families) because the CEO is 'allegedly' a dic…erm..not a nice person?

Disclaimer: I'm not a Rivers employee.

        • I didn't suggest anything.

          Let your conscience guide you.

Perhaps use the ruler of 'what if it were my wife or daughter' to help you make a decision.

A difference between the DJ (McInnes) case and this is that McInnes wasn't the sole company owner, and McInnes wasn't accused of having committed degrading sexual offenses over a very long period of time.

        • what if it were my wife

          Now u're suggesting that I'm a man :p…
I'm not.I'm a woman.. a woman who had a creepy weirdo stalk her for months while she was at uni.I clearly remember the fear , the anger , the feeling of powerlessness..In the end I couldn't take it anymore and quit uni, just to get away from him.
Trust me,I do not condone harassers but I think its the greatest good to the greatest number of people which is the measure of right and wrong. In this case, 7400 staff and their families is one of the reasons I buy Rivers. The other reason is because they sometime have some really good bargains.I doubt that he has ever made any profit from the items I've bought. They all were at about 70% (or more)off the original ticketed price:)

        • Some feel more strongly about giving money to an (alleged) serial sexual harasser who owns the company and is the ultimate beneficiary of any company profits (not running costs such as employee wages).

As a person who suffered sexual harassment you should know how debilitating it usually is, and the victims are often portrayed appallingly, such as in this case it is 'claimed' that they have mental issues, drinking problems and erratic behaviour - despite maintaining employment there for 14 years…go figure.

Where on earth do you get 7400 staff? I don't think you are meant to count the people slaving in sweat-shops in China etc gluing the shoes together…

        • +1

"We are trying to open an additional 30 stores and so need to add onto our group of over 1400 staff."

…you were only out by 6000.

        • +1

I know i misread that as "needing to add 1400 staff" . Sorry ,giggles.
