  • focalprice = scam site, junk stuff/fake products. Total waste of time and money buying anything from them if you expect any sort of quality product or brand name.

  • My stuff came last time and was exactly what I ordered (some ramsinks and a large PCB). If you even bothered to read the head-fi forums you'll see that these are the real deal.

The PL-12s are apparently pretty good too and only $12USD.

  • This isn't a deal about focalprice in general. Its about a specific product. Of course the $8 sony headphones are fake. Read the head-fi thread. Look out for the words "sound", "magic", "PL30", "genuine" and the phrase "not fake".

  • Of course you will not get genuine memory cards, etc at stores like this and dealextreme.
But I would expect these are the genuine sound magic.
Perhaps voting on the deal instead of highlighting your lack of knowledge might be a good idea for your next comment.
I wouldn't believe everything you read on whirlpool … there's a lot of sock puppet retailers that float on the forum (while the admins try their best to weed them out, it wouldn't suprised me if a lot of resellers/retailers don't apply for special retailer/reseller/isp status)

    • I've bought from this mob before (DX and FP) and each time have been extremely disappointed with fake products.

      • I would be very interested in which products you purchased.
I bought japanese wii controllers that were genuine nintendo products from dealextreme.
Obviously their memory cards are all knock offs but at a fraction of the price, every one that I have ordered still works fine.

In fact, the sandisk that I ordered off eBay was the only memory card that's died on me.
If you read the reviews on those sites in particular dealextreme (and dont expect too much from the cheaper items)
i.e. know what to order (mainly things like soldering parts, etc. that you can only get from places with huge markup like DSE or tandy), then you should be fine.

Anyway I think you are wrong in this case … it doesn't make sense that a company that makes reasonable headphones at an already cheap price would have such a good knockoff.
Why wouldn't they knock off Sennheiser or Koss?

Like the V-Sonic R-02 headphones I purchased a year ago … which are a great cheap version of more expensive Shure and others.

  • The whole point of the site is to not go for the retail brands unless it clearly states they are genuine (and often look to see if anyone has posted a comment to confirm this).
You can benefit by doing your research and saving on the better value items (hopefully some are excess stock made in the same factory as the genuine but obviously rebranded).

For example Sound Magic or V-Sonic aren't big brand names anywhere, but for 1/4 of the price of their competitors they make excellent value (as stated in several reviews, and when being compared to my normal headset - Koss Pro4AAT's).

Why would Sony or Panasonic sell through a cheap chinese site and cut off their local distributors?
Some of the people in that Whirlpool thread really need to check whether their shoe size is greater than their IQ.
The only time I can imagine that a genuine brand name would be for sale on these types of websites is when excess stock is being cleared without the knowledge of Panasonic, Sony, etc.
