Not too sure, but I didn't see it listed here before and like Astro above says 'free is free' so it's worth posting.

No idea if all those books called "bible" are the same but found a good review on amazon.

    • No idea if all those books called "bible" are the same

yea essentially they are. its a fiction novel written about some zombie dude and lots of incest, genocide, rape, prostitution and other wonderful things to teach children about then used to breed hate and intolerance about things that were never really even in the bible and then ignore all the really obvious bits that are because its about themselves…..

what wonderful people religious people are…

4chan probably sums it up far better than i do tho.

      • Woah! Calm down buddy. Even if you dislike us for being religious, we don't hate you for not being religious. Peace and love, no?

Yea you just want to kill non religious people. Or people who follow a different religion. Or people who support same sex marriage. Just like back in the olden days you didn't hate science people or the women accused of witchcraft.

Or if you're a vindictive atheist or just dislike this particular branch of Christianity you could take pleasure in wasting their money/time.

  • As per policy, religous text deals (Bibles, Qu'ran, Dyanetics etc.) get moved to forums.

    • Hmm, 'Dyanetics'? Yes, of course - the book written by Dyan Cannon. Come to think of it, she was quite the religious experience when she was younger…

  • Nah, the old testament is the exciting one anyway :-)

Idk, the old testament is good and all, but pain is temporary. Eternal torment introduced in the new testament makes for better reading imo.

Posted 5 years ago — has always been free. Here's also some reasons why you probably shouldn't get it. There are lots of free Bible translations, and some are even in public domain. But I would not recommend the Recovery Version.

Good deal mate. This will go nicely with my $5 polyester suit.

    • Time to move on mate.

      • Time to move on mate.

if its time to move on why are you still here defending this fairytale book? some "imaginary god" given right?

        • I'm not defending the book, not even religious, i'm talking about the suit.

  • This would be great for my emergency bible studies. Thanks!

    Ezekiel 23:19

Yet she increased her prostitution, remembering the days of her youth when she engaged in prostitution in the land of Egypt. She lusted after their genitals – as large as those of donkeys, and their seminal emission was as strong as that of stallions.

    Genesis 38:9O

Onan knew that the offspring would not be his; so when he went in to his brother’s wife, he wasted his seed on the ground in order not to give offspring to his brother. But what he did was displeasing in the sight of the LORD; so He took his life also.

    Genesis 19:8
“Look, I have two daughters, virgins both of them. Let me bring them out to you and you could do what you like with them. But do nothing to these men because they have come under the shelter of my roof.”

Oh come on! Its not all gloom and doom. There's also some funny moments. For instance:

      Deuteronomy 25:11-12 (NIV)

If two men are fighting and the wife of one of them comes to rescue her husband from his assailant, and she reaches out and seizes him by his private parts, you shall cut off her hand. Show her no pity.

    • @ch4rgd — are you trying to disapprove nosdan's remark that the Bible is a fairytale? These are definitely not fairytale material :) Okay. Seriously, reading Bible is just like reading any kind of book or literature — context is your friend.

      Ezekiel 23:19

Ezekiel is portraying the nation Israel as a whore basically, which is similar in tone to the book of Hosea. Israel, as a nation or as individuals, have betrayed YHWH who saved them numerous times in history, and started folowing other gods in the region they have occupied. In fact most of the Old Testament is talking about this rebellious & adulterous Israel who rejected their God again and again, got punished by the surrounding nations and needs rescue all the time.

      Genesis 38:9

What's "displeasing in the sight of the LORD" is not the fact that "he wasted his seed on the ground", but "not to give offspring to his brother", as Israel's God has given them the idea of "kinsmen's redeemer" as a way to continue the line (especially consider Tamar was the wife of Judah's first born son, the beginning of one of Israel's 12 tribes).

I think you might as well read on for the story between Judah and Tamar if you want something more "disturbing" :) What's been written there is definitely not an endorsement, but rather quite opposite. However Bible is full of how God used people's evil intend to bring forth his own plan (crucifixion of Jesus for example).

      Genesis 19:8

Not sure about you, but I think many would consider that to be pretty wicked. Well, comparing to the people of the city of Sodom (who wanted to rape the angels), Lot (cousin of Abraham) here was not much better, was he?

Even reading the account of Abraham in the Bible you'll be wondering "what the @#$%?! This kind of character is the celebrated patriarch of Israel?!" But hey, there are lots of colourful characters in the old testament, and the behaviours are not always commended (yes, when you read in context). Most "heroes" in the old testament have problems. They are there to urge the readers to look forward to someone better (or more perfect) coming in the future (which to those who also read the new testament, it happens to be Jesus).

are you trying to disapprove nosdan's remark that the Bible is a fairytale?

you have about as much chance of doing that as you have of disproving the fact that we all know… in fact what you call "god" is really just the flying spaghetti monster…..

      • Thanks for the read Scotty.

  • mmm, well still a better love story than Twilight. :)
