  • Does this come with any basic recording software to enable features such as 'capture only when motion detected'?

Also, can anyone comment on the night range?

I'm thinking of aiming one down my driveway and am further curious if the IR lights reflect off glass back into the camera etc…

  • Reviews are all over the place on Amazon. Avg rating 3.2/5. Good price if you're after one.

  • How does it compare to something like this..

  • +2

I bought one of these last weekend. It has no on-board recording, but the bundled PC software will do the normal motion-triggered recording and alerts. There was something about being able to record to NAS without needing a PC running, but I haven't pursued it.

The main reason I got it was to be able to pull up a video of what's going on in the house if the security alarm goes off, which it does really well on a web browser, iPhone or iPad (and more). Both day and night works great for the back area in the house.

Set up was fiddly, including needing to do a firmware update and run the config util a different way at one point in order to sign on to my WPA2 wifi network. It's coped well with network and Internet disruption since it was set up.

If you want a decent security camera that manages itself, the Logitech ones that JB Hifi discounted by 50% a while back are much better, but even at 50% off the indoor starter pack was four times more expensive than this. As such, they're about the same value for money.

  • It is quite good if you cannot or do not want to do port forwarding on your modem/router - this way it would be straight forward and anyone could install/connect/ view it remotely.

But if you want to record or use third party apps/apks or anything else, then IT knowledge is required.

I have a freakingcheap TP-Link modem/router at our shop and there is no simple way to do port-forwarding on it like the Netgear one I have at home, so I only could VIEW it, not recording

  • Do you have to subscribe to some service to use it? how do you set it up outdoors? screw in or tape?

    • No need to subscribe

  • So this is ip cam? ( need ip cam type to connect to has synology)

    • +1

yes, it is. You can connect to synology and save the recording there. This model doesn't have a SD card slot.

  • I have the lower version DCS-930L, and it is very good when using the iPhone App.
Thanks for sharing, will buy this one, and there are stocks in HN in Sydney

  • thanks for confirming, yes this is compatible for Synology users

further question, which one is better, this or

  • Logitech ones are still on sale, bought some to use as security cameras around the house, works great with on board storage which uploads on demand (when you turn on your PC) and also allows (via logitech alert) uploading to cloud and Web access/email alerts all without turning on your Pc.

  • note HN has it on stock but same price so no PM.
i read this need to be powered by plugin to electricity socket ie not battery, therefore we need to run the cable which is not so convenient i think.

  • Some reviews on Amazon are suggesting it only records something like ten seconds of video at a time and then it has to stop. One guy in the comments even said he had a theft, and the camera recorded the thief's legs but ran out of recording before it saw his face. These comments worry me a little. Does anyone know about the record time?
