Pig out on Short Cut Bacon 1kg Packs - $5ea @ Woolworths (Kuraby, QLD)

281

Never seen short cut bacon this cheap - I was tempted to pull a Boaden and swipe the lot ;)
This was at my local Woolies @ Kuraby in Qld, so I'm not sure if this is available in other stores. There were plenty there though, so stock up on this wonderful magical animal!

Is it imported or Australian ???

Many of the imported ones have a lot of additives…

    • +1

It doesn't matter, cuz you will never know ; )

      • +3

I read an article recently suggesting avoiding eating imported bacon.

  • +2

Made in oz from local and imported ingredients

    • +6

how does that work? part of the pig is local and part imported ???

      • +10

I did mention it's a wonderful magical creature right?

      • +18

australian born pig - went to swine university overseas - got wasted and came back gutted….

oh btw I think aldi has their bacon at a $5 regular price but im not sure if its shortcut or australian.

      • +8

Simply means that it's grown and processed in Australia, but an ingredient used in the processing (say salt for instance) comes from a different country.

I work in the Deli at Woolworths.

        • Either that or it means an additive from Australia is used with imported pork.

      • +1

        The nitrates come from overseas….

  • La Grande Bouffe ;)

      Coles ?

    • I think it's just covering all bases - some may be from local stock, some imported.

    • Woolies (sorry Coles).

        • +6

I don't think you can edit once there is a reply to it.

        • +3

Try and edit your post GWH now i replied to yours…hint oops

          (crazy limitation imho)

    • Australia pig and imported ingredient such as salts etc etc.

      • +6

more likely the salt is local, the pork imported…

There are currently three label claims used to describe the origin of pork products. These are:

Product of Australia, which is Australian grown
Made in Australia, which can be grown and processed in Australia but potentially contains imported meat; and
Made from Imported and Local Ingredients, which is in all likelihood, predominately imported pork.

So we can assume this is imported bacon loaded with nitrites…

For Melbournites - Free range butcher.

Haven't seen cheaper prices for free range bacon around so technically that's a bargain ;)

Woolworth's bacon is VB, Cannings free range bacon is top shelf whiskey.

    • +1

You realise that it is $30 per kg I assume?

      • +2

try it and I bet you never go back to the imported ones…

      • +1

Yes, and I hope you realise that the bacon they sell at supermarkets is generally rubbish compared to this.
I'm more of a quality over quantity person…

Awesome… Not too far from me either…

    • They have free range bacon down in Seaford as well…

  • I heard from a woollies person that it was USA pork. I can only presume that the bag and the brine top up were the Australian components.

    • +2

most likely the bag is imported from China…

      local brine though…

    • All this pork product talk got me thinking about the USA too… I'm guessing its Straight Outta Compton.

You are all missing something - CHEAP BACON!!!!!

    • +5

      Is it Kosher ?

  • This deal was at my local woolies abouth a month ago. (collingwood park qld) nothing wrong with it at all.
    hope it comes back!

    • Yeah, I also enjoyed it then. Mind you, there is nothing fancy about the flavour -no smokiness or sweetness. I cooked it up on the BBQ and froze batches for throwing in the occasional omelet or soup. Once frozen it crumbles up real nice.

    • @ josh: No chance of that particular pork coming back, lol.

  • isnt this $5 from aldis every day and i think colesworth have heaps left over from their $100 purchase promo

    • You tell me where you can get $5/kg SHORT CUT bacon regularly and then we'll talk :)

  • +1

They are just trying to clear these as they've probably been in the cabinet for about 2 months.

We had this selling for $5 a few weeks ago; as these were over ordered.

They were originally for the 'Spend $100' promo; however these failed to sell many at $5 each with the $100 spend criteria.

  • Pigs are filthy animals. I don't eat filthy animals.

    • do you eat prawns or lobsters, or imported seafood?

    • Also the reason I don't eat people. (I got the movie reference, btw.)

    • +5

Bacon tastes gooood. Pork chops taste gooood

do you consider a dog to be a filthy animal?

    • +2

      What about dog?

So John Travolta gets 4 votes, and Samuel L Jackson gets -1. I don't understand.

Bacon from a local butcher made on the premises from local pigs and nicely smoked, about $15kg for shortcut.

  • Good luck bacon eaters… according to news in Sept last year.

About 65 per cent of the ham, bacon and smallgoods in the Australian market is made from imported pork, but all fresh pork meat is from Australian animals.

    Read more: http://www.news.com.au/breaking-news/national/no-bacon-droug…

    Note - smallgoods as well.

Likewise your Macca's Subways etc probably are selling the same imported stuff as well…

  • We had the same deal in our local Woolworths like 6 weeks ago. Bacon taste great. Was looking for the same deal yesterday but seems like it was one time offer.

  • My store told me they sold out of those ages ago. :(

I haven't even heard of the sale til now.

  • I love this animal.

  • I love bacon….bacon strips, bacon strips, bacon strips, bacon strips, bacon strips, bacon strips, bacon strips…EMT

  • a lot of muslims live in kuraby, which probably explains why they're overstocked.

  • I prefer the budget bacon from my local butchery, $3.99/kg and tastes better than short cut.

  • Just curious if anyone has seen this price at another woolies this week? Tossing up whether or not to bother going for a drive and checking my local.

  • +2

Onya Woolies…bump up the "normal" price to $15 per kg and then claim savings of ten bucks!

This stuff is usually around $10…not $15…even by the rasher in the deli section.

Last week they were flogging this dead porker for $5 but the catch was havng to spend $30 on other stuff.

Get the Aldi $5 budget bacon…lean and tastier….and everyday price of $5.

    • Get the Aldi $5 budget bacon…lean and tastier….

Now you've lost it. Its NOT leaner its "Budget" bacon, and some - very few - packs have lean slices, the rest have much fat and the rashers are bits and pieces. Cheap? yes, tasty?, well sometimes, and lean? this will depend on if the pensioners have got in before you. The last shortcut packet I got was a month ago, every week now only the crap is left. So this is still a deal for those who can get it.

  • Delicious, but I'd definitely rather purchase it from the Deli.
