  • Read some articles last night that hinted at RT facing the similar fate to WebOS, maybe next HP touchpad sale coming soon.

    • We can only dream…

    • That would be awesome, as I'd love to get one for my GF doing uni. But I can't justify spending almost $500 for this. Especial since the Touch Cover is SOOOOOOOO crap. You only want the Type Cover.

I wouldn't be surprised that the Windows 8 RT gets phased out. With Windows 8 running on the Surface Pros, it'll be only time that the price drops on those, making it pointless to get a Windows 8 RT.

Why would you get a RT when tablet running Windows 8 will run actual windows x86 software.

    • RT is a failed experiment, it won't catch up to android :p

      long live x86 proggies

look at how fast intel and amd are mobilising their chips into tabs and soon phones

    • Helped my old man set up a Surface tablet the other night. Having to get applications through the store(MS email/account registration required) and not being able to use things I take for granted, like VLC was incredibly frustrating.

I'm not sure if there is an option to try the software in the MS store before purchasing, but there probably should be because the selection is extremely limited and most of them aren't free. Had to convert the ebooks he purchased to PDF because there was no free software to read the formats he needed.

TLDR; Not surprised, apps limited, locked in to MS store/apps

Don't see it having the same fate as Webos
The APPS work on the Tablet and PC
      Windows 8 is going nowhere
And if the rumours are true if the Start Menu returns
I think windows 8 will be accepted as the current windows o/s

This doesn't mean the tablet wont fail, but the Apps etc will be available for the PC anyway

      • Windows 8 is going nowhere

        True on many levels…

Aren't the 'full' Windows 8 tablets available for less? eg Asus VivoTab $385, I claim no knowledge about Windows tablets so correct me if I'm wrong.

    • If you read the review the Asus one has slow ram which does cause a lot of performance slow downs in comparison (out of my 4 tablets I have the Asus preforms the slowest due to this)

Depends if this is a concerned for you or not, my mum only uses it to watch movies and brows the web so no issues there :)

  • I would have though Microsoft has recalled these already. RT is too limited.

    source = http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Windows_RT

this Windows RT version will only run the Apps from the microsoft store (only a handful).
This tablet uses ARM CPU. It will NOT run normal windows programs.

For your money, you should invest in a straight Windows 8 tablets that use an Intel CPU inside. They are like laptop without the keyboard and will run all your Windows Programs.

the pricing for this tablet is good but I would have say no. It is simply not worth it.

    Really, really, really no deal.

Just wait a few weeks and buy the hundreds that will show up on ebay shortly.

  • It wont be long till they hit $199 after they offer the education mob for that price.

I don't see the huge negative about the RT :/ great unit if your after a basic tablet and great build quality,

My only issue is the lack of 3G off the shelf.

  • just wondering if we use the US version here? can we just buy it over the net ?
