Never understood why parents are prepare to pay so much for a pram that often get outgrown in a couple of years.
    Sames with expensive cots.

Same as why buy a Merc when a Ford will suffice or why buy an Apple when an Acer will do the job just fine? etc etc.

baby bonus= spare cash at baby time for some who have never had nice things, or grandparents spoil their kids.
I have expensive cots and prams bought second hand off ebay. Like new, big savings. The expensive ones are way better when you realise how much time your kids spend in them. If you hav 2 kids that is probably 4+ years use.
But like most things, value is subjective. Some people can't see the difference.

    • Same but different - expensive prams have a reasonable resale value.

We had a few expensive second hand prams. They still cost a heap, but not as much as buying new. Then we sold them for almost what we bought them for when finished.

We have actually owned two identical prams at different times using this method. We had a single, then sold it and bought and sold a few different doubles, then when the time came, we sold out of the doubles and bought another single exactly the same as the one we used to own.

What does amaze me with prams though is how crappily constructed they are. Even the good ones. A $1k pram is built with cheaper nastier components than a $100 bike. Prams are generally bent steel tubes riveted into plastic fittings - even a $200 department store bike is likely to be TIG-welded aluminium with decent quality bearings and pivots.

I replaced the awful pressed-metal wheel bearing cartridges on our double Mountain Buggy (when they clapped out) with some good quality industrial cartridge bearings… wow that made a difference!

We have an icandy peach jogger for our first daughter and it was pricey but the quality is quite good and it folds up really easily into the boot.
And as a first time dad I want to make sure I'm looking my best while pushing my sweet little chick magnet around.
In saying that a carry harness and a cute little floppy hat works out a lot cheaper and gets just as much, if not more attention on the street.

My girls wanted to sit in those cheap $10 buck strollers by the time they were 8 months old!!!

But the kid is not my son. ♫

  • So, for that price, you can't actually surf in it. Damn.

  • the best pram is the baby jogger city mini. lightweight folds flat with one hand and instant carry (the handle you use to fold it is the carry handle.

    • The GT would be better with proper wheels. I regret not buying one.

I bought one for $700 2 years ago. This is Not a bargain!
