  • Contrast on these Aldi TVs I believe are a little on the low side, else a good deal.

    Star rating 3.5
    Comparative energy consumption (kWh/annum) 403

    http://reg.energyrating.gov.au/comparator/product_types/32/s…

I know you high rollers don't care about such things.

    • Is there a way to just get the wattage on that site?

      • I don't think so. You would have to search for the model number, then look for that spec.

But since even the manufacturer is coy about it

        http://www.bauhn.com.au/Products/50-127cm-Full-HD-LED-TV.asp…

I think we can assume it's horrifying.

        According to the energyrating.gov.au website,

        "Comparative Energy Consumption (kWh/annum)
This is a comparative figure that indicates the amount of electricity used to operate the Television over a typical year (assuming 10 hours viewing per day). It is based on testing conducted on the model to the relevant Australian Standard."

Based on 10hr use per day multiply by 365 days per year is 3,650 hours per year. If the use is 403kwh/year, then this equates to about 110Watts per hour. Hope my maths is correct.

    Meh, only 50Hz.

    • ? It shows 60Hz

      • All 50Hz TVs sold in Australia are capable of displaying 60Hz signals but they are named as 50Hz.

        Australia: 50Hz, 100Hz, 200Hz

        US: 60Hz, 120Hz, 240Hz

        Meh, only 60Hz

  • I was gonna post the deal but RSV1000 beat me to it.
    it's a very good deal.

I personally was looking for 2 new TVs myself but this one is the wrong size

    1. a 32" TV for my parent bedroom
    2. a 3D TV somewhere between 42" to 50" for the living room.

    • i have a 32" medion tv from aldi. medion is their other tv brand.

i thought it was pretty decent money until bought a soniq 24" w/dvd from jb hifi yesterday. (for the kids tv room)

in terms of tuning capability the soniq picked up so many more stations. with the medion i thought my antenna was crap (which it is) however the soniq kicks as on pick up. also the built in dvd player plays cd-r (i've only tested these so far).

the medion has less format playback for usb media.

If i were buying another main tv i'd look at soniq.

  • Isn't it 60Hz?
Might do till 4k TV comes down in price :)

  • Thanks for posting. I am looking for a TV for the man cave

I just did a quick search on reviews and might hold off on this one though

Only 2 reviews but both bad

    Thanks for posting anyway. :~)

    • Thats weird. I'm pretty sure I have this TV at home. It's great. Though apparently the Audio is tinny. Not being an audiophile I can hardly tell.

Aldi have a one year return thingy don't they? So you could grab it, dont like it, take it back?

      • AFIK they have a 60 day Money Back Guarantee with the usual manufacturer’s (most often 1 year) warranty.

      • Don't think they have a 1 yr return policy anymore (looks like 60 days now)

        • +2

Doesn't matter, under ACCC rules since it would be reasonably expected that a TV should last longer than 1 year (let alone 60 days) if something went wrong with it, Aldi would have to take it back ( actually your choice if Aldi or manf.) under warranty.

        • +1

Yeah, that's if something goes wrong. If you just don't like it though, you only have 60 days from Aldi's in-house policy.

  • looks like a great deal, regardless of the scan rate.
    $599 for 50" wow.

  • What's the "mini audio socket out" you're looking for?

From the specs on the Bauhn site, this TV has:
    1 x S/PDIF Coaxial output
    1 x Earphone output (3.5mm)

    http://www.bauhn.com.au/Products/50-127cm-Full-HD-LED-TV.asp…

    • 3.5mm is for head phones.
      It is an amplified output.

  • This model isn't on the energy rating site but the bigger 58" is.
The 58" model costs $0.37 to run 10hrs a day.
Based on my rate of $0.24 kWh.

  • Any means of getting this TV to SA?

  • Got one today. The main concern I have is about viewing angles. It is stated 178/178 in specs, but colour degradation is very noticeable even at 20 degrees to the side. At 45 the picture is pale and unpleasant, especially on faces.

Time shift function is working fine. Also tried h.264 mkv video and have no complains.

Build quality is OK to me.

Thinking on returning to the store.
