Garmin Nuvi 40 $49- Free Delivery or Click & Collect @ DSE

230

Hi All,
Yes, it's yet another DSE deal where the stocks could possibly be limited, but I'm posting this deal if it helps anyone.

The website states "Low Stock:Stock allocated on a first in first served basis"

It's a Garmin Nuvi 40 for $49, a damn good price for a branded GPS (I've got a Garmin and it's quite good).

Note: This model doesn't come with lifetime maps, but for $49, you shouldn't complain.

  • Mmmmm…..seems to be getting cheaper by the day !

no free map update is a deal breaker for me.

If you search on ebay, you can buy Garmin SD card maps for around $20 delivered.

      • thanks for the advice but then it's not a life time update map :P

        • +2

"lifetime maps" is only 3 years anyway.. you are not going to need to update your map more frequently than that unless you are unlucky with the routes you take

      • +2

if you search for gpsunderground, you can get any map you want for free

  • Good price, Good Guys have it $64 which is apparently a clearance price. Good for those that just want something cheap, reliable and basic.

    • dse says it's 20% off.. meaning dse normal price is lower than GG's clearance price? cmon GG..

    • +2

I went into my local Good Guys store the other day to purchase a shaver, I was the only person in the store and was not served by one of the 7 staff walking around talking to other staff (or basically doing nothing).

Something that never happens at DSE.

Our local GG you get approached very rapidly and repeatedly while you are there.

I find using google maps on my android phone much more user friendly, plus life time free maps…

    • Except google uses non-authoritative inaccurate data…

at least you won't end up in a river or off a cliff if you follow the directions. well done apple map, home of innovation indeed

        • +2

          True, Apple is worse :)

        • but smartphones rock as gps especially when tall buildings around, they use the network to track your location as well as the gps

        • and you can be fined using them while driving, GPS dont have all the hassles

  • +2

Theres still a use for these things I think. we bought one for $62 around easter time, at least they updated the maps once upon purchase for free, which was better than nothing.

So much easier than messing around with your phone and turning on guidance, and then realizing its stuck on pedestrian, and then can't remember how to get it back on vehicle route, then taking it out of the cradle, and then seeing the blue lights flash behind you.

    • You can update the maps for free during the first three months of purchase, if I recall.

      • only once in the first 90days

After buying the last Dick Smith GPS 'deal' on 17/6/13 I am yet to receive any product or refund. I wrote 2 emails as a follow up - no response. Wrote another email yesterday to complaint department - nothing so far. i rang all day on two separate days. First day an indian call centre answered and said they could find my order number but could not confirm payment - even though I received a payment confirmation and money has come out my paypal. I was promised I would be cntacted with a response. Two days after that still nothing - I rang half a morning and no pick up. Out of desperation I went into their nunawading store and a lady in the shop rang on my behalf - she also could not get through but promised someone would get back to me… STILL NOTHING! That was 4 days ago. No stock, no money. Very unhappy :(

    • Paypal dispute it.

      • I will but unfortunately I also part paid it with a gift card :(

Update: complained on their facebook site. finally got a response. they promptly cancelled my order citing "suspected fraud". they then claimed to never have received payment. I followed up by sending them payment confirmation of funds being transferred from my account and also reaffirming that my gift card is now void after applying against purchase. they responded with same message saying payment never received… still waiting to see if they will come back with anything meaningful which is doubtful :(
Meanwhile I have also filed chargeback with paypal… hopefully i can get majority back. looks like bye bye gift card.

I also emailed and called them to no avail and after multiple weeks of waiting and forgetting about it, I attempted to login into my account password wouldn't work so I had to reset it. Then go into my account and all my order numbers and personal details had been wiped. It's a bit strange, I guess paypal dispute would be the only way to go about it, If they don't refund me the next time I call.

    • dept of fair trading may work; may not; you could take it to CTTT but there are more costs. and hassles.

      • small claims tribunal would be the best bet, the rest don't really do anything productive with a small transaction like this

I saw this GPS advertised in their specials email.

However, I refused to post it here since it's from Dire Stock (Dick Smith).

    personal recent happenings

    1) no answers to a single email on any query
    2) incorrect pricing
    3) no refunds for incorrectly-priced items until a PayPal claim is raised, and even then the refund is late (but they are always super-quick to take your money)
    4) terrible customer service (or in my case, no customer service)
    5) 99.9% of deals having 'mythical' stock levels
    6) a recent update of their website asking you to re-set your password greets you with a website showing no order history details

However, this is a cheap price for a GPS.
But to me this store has all the hallmarks of deserving to close down or at least downsize severely.
Just something to keep in mind regarding the store.

It's the first time I ever bought from DSE online and they're absolute RUBBISH!!!

    1. Click and Collect

    2. No idea when I'll hear back?? I was assuming the store would actually have stock so I can simply pop in and pick it up?

    3. Phone number on original email is WRONG and DISCONNECTED

    4. Phone number on the website works but Option 2 is INCORRECT

    5. Called and waited 15 mins. No response. Not even a prompt to wait etc just random music.

    What a POS store!!!

    • They have become scammers for sure. They are now completely ignoring me and still continue to say they never received payment even though I paid with gift card and sent them my PayPal funds receipt.

I tried to call for over one hour today their "helpline". No response

      • Why do you even bother? just lodge a paypal dispute and be done with it.

yeah it's complete shit. I walked into a store today and they said they never had stock even though it was showing as available when I bought it. I haven't lost money but majorly pissed off. Will be sending a complaint to the head office.
