  • Having a tough time trying to verify this one online! All that I can dig up is this:
    http://catalogues.dicksmith.com.au/offer/power-boards/dick-s…

    • Same product number (M78061), just not on the website for who knows what reason..

  • WOW

Nice one - I will be buying a few of these. When does it start???

  • +1

Look exactly the same as the ones going for $1 a few weeks ago http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/107618

    • +1

Yes, same - just old packaging & model number M7806. Bought at $1 - certainly the best powerboard deal :-)

      • Dang I missed that one!!!

  • Thank you,I am ordering it by $17.99,I will switch back to the checkout page tab and cancel it!

    • +2

Note, 17.99 is for 8 Port, whereas this one is only 6 Port

  • Does it work if the electricity outlet is only 2 prong and does it work if I connect another power extender to it?

  • Not on website it seems, there's a good picture of it in this deal.

  • +3

Got this one a while ago:

    http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/86780

Best deal I ever got - I ordered (and paid for) 2…they shipped 4. Not gonna complain!

  • Grabbed 3 when they has the 3 for 45 deal. Will go get a few more now. :-)

  • Went into my Local Store, and sure enough, the 'surge catcher' (Catalog #M78061) is at $11.98.
    Best $60 i spent ;P

    • +2

Good work! Looks like we need to saddle up and do things the old fashioned way. But my bed is so toasty!

  • +1

from which catalogue is this? i browse online for DSE catalogue in pdf format, cant see this deal.

Is this from the old catalogue? or… ???

    • ok, just got one from DSE in chaddy. heaps in stock… at least 10 from what i saw

  • got this for $12 in store aswell. Was ticketed at $18 but must be scanned in their system at $12. Same with that 8 way surge protector. Ticket price was $37 but scanned at $18.

  • DSE have 40% off powerboards, hence the pricing.

There is signage around the store for other xx% off other types of items

    • Sadly most people get misled by the sign.
Since the sign says 40% off powerboards, then a small lettering saying "Excludes Advertised Prices" which clearly as per above, this is a advertised price, therefore it "should" be excluded…. but dick always screws things up….

  • I have just got two and thinking to get two more tomorrow. I was unfortunate not being able to score these for $1 or $2 on DSE's recent online stunts. So decided give it try for $12 today and it seems a good value for the money.

That deal? I successfully resevered 2 at $1 each but received a call the stock never existed. I think it is just some lucky people got it when some honest staff hounoured the deal others either just made up BS like what i heard or bought them all themselves.

As I have posted so many times after posts about (imagined) dubious behavior by DS staff, there was very little stock, it was years old with old stock number, stock on store's system did not match actual stock (some may be in use in store, lost, stolen, etc long ago).

I was in a store when the deal was posted, chatting with the manager. The quantity on the computer did not match the few on the shelves in the back room.

People somehow imagine a stock system is perfect, and stock that has not been seen for ages still exists & can be found out the back!

(DS new stock system does not allow us to search for low stock, so there should be no further complaints.)

Stock was allocated to first to order. Staff did not even know about deal until orders came in. As a customer on friendly terms with the manager, I was lucky to get last one.

Blaming staff for old inaccurate stock system at DS is not nice. All the allegations are made up, not based on any fact I can see, just their order was cancelled due to lack of stock - which never existed!

I will give you some fact Bruce.

ABout 5 weeks ago I placed an order for 2 copies of Battlefield 3 on PS3.

They were $10 each from memory.

Click and Collect from a northern Sydney suburban DSE.

The store never called me, but my order was confirmed as accepted on the website and via email - so eventually I found myself in that suburb and just walked into the store.

Two boxes for Battlefield 3 for PS3 were on the shelf marked at $59 each. I picked them up and took them to the counter.

The MANAGER served me - he noted that his available stock on the computer said zero and was confused. He looked in the computer with his off-sider and they noted that both copies were actually reserved for click and collect (but they hadn't bothered actually processing the order at their end).

The manager said quote "These are clearance items. We are not allowing click and collect. Fu%^ that GreatWhiteHunter (but my real full name) we have a customer in store now who is buying them."

He then sold me the two copies for $10 each.

Only after I had paid did I tell him that I was in fact GreatWhiteHunter - he looked a little embarrassed. This is a 100% true account of what happened…

ALSO Bruce - DSE's old stock system is no longer online. It was replaced about 3 weeks ago. You cannot blame the old stock system any more.

        • -1

Good one Greatwhitehunter! @Bruce you seemed not to know the truth and the whole of it maybe just keep your mouth shut! I said there were honest and dishonest DSE staff but you just put 100% blame on their stock system?

        • Um - I was about the first to post about the new stock system just after it was up…
          http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/105258?page=1#comment-14683… 26/06/2013 - 11:33
The DS stock system has not changed! It is just not searchable by us.

Above, I was commenting about many previous complaints of dubious behaviour by DS staff which could likely be attributed to the broken stock system. My post was a response to a complaint by wtfnodeal of a $1 deal under the old online system. You are posting about the old online system. So your comment about the replacement online stock system (which I posted about long ago) when I was talking exclusively about the old stock system is irrelevent!

Your comment shows there are problems with the stock system - as Click & Collect are removed from system, but may never be picked up, or reinstated to available status later, so show as unavailable, & on hold items are not removed from the system, so show as available stock but are unavailable. I have posted about this many times.

Blaming the store for the failure to call you over click & collect order seems partly your fault. I have never received a call for numerous C&C orders. Rather an email/SMS is received which states to contact the store if you do not receive confirmation of your order ready at the store…
Your Click & Collect reservation request has been sent to your local store. We will send you a text to confirm when your order is ready for collection.
If you don't receive a text from us within 2 business hours please contact the store on the phone number below.

That is followed by a SMS of availability at store… Your reservation #xxxx is ready for collection at … Store The stock was sitting there waiting for you, according to what you posted. That you were not contacted shows there are failures in the DS system, not dubious behaviour. DS seems to have stuffed up, but you should have checked.

        • I will not be rudely told to just keep your mouth shut! This is a community, with different experiences & opinions. Just because you don't like what someone says or you got negged, does not mean those saying what you don't like to read should just keep your mouth shut!.

I was not saying you are wrong, just your serious allegations against (some) DS staff lacked evidence & could be better explained by the terrible stock system, than by some DS conspiracy.

I have many years experience with DS systems, as a customer & knowing & advising a lot of managers. My years of consulting to corporate customers has given me many insights into stock systems. DS has about the worst I have seen. DS system has been a slow evolution over decades, with online added, without much thought, and certainly no insight as to how OBers may push it! No one took the initiative to kill it off & have a clean sweep. There was no economic benefit to do something so expensive. When Woolworths took over, it became an even more out of control system, with all I dealt with at head office ducking responsibility.

I did not just put 100% blame on their stock system. I was responding about numerous claims (not just yours) that (some) DS staff act in dubious ways. But you claimed some staff had either just made up BS like what i heard or bought them all themselves.
What basis in fact do you have that what you assert is true???
You claim that there was no stock was BS - without any proof.

I was in a store talking with a manager I know when the $1 deals including the powerboard came through. OBers knew before we did & were already ordering! There was little or no stock in the store I was in, & I was allowed out back to find it to buy for myself - alas little, but found last $1 powerboard! (Some powerboards would have been put to use in the store. The manager had been told ages (start of 2011 or 2012) ago they could not be sold as the packaging did not meet the new consumer law.)
The computer stock system was wrong, at least in that store, but likely to be the same issue across the country on ancient stock.

My suggerstion that it was likely due to the poor stock system (not keeping track of stock that had not been on the store shelves for several years) is a more plausable explanation - that should be considered before jumping to conclusions - of dubious behaviour by some staff! Your unfounded allegation is a slur on all DS staff.

        • wait till you get your confirmation email - go to the store to pick the order up and get Dick smith staff demand ten times the order amount on the email you received.

if dubious behaviour is not an understatement in regard to tricky dicky staff behaviour like that then please make clear what is?

no such thing as a contract with tricky dicky bruce mate, even when it is in writing…..

        • What you are stating is another example of a stock/order system problem.
Click&Collect orders are not prepaid (would be more definite if it was), so an error in the price may occur (price update/correction between time of order & collection, etc). But the agreed price should show on the receipt with your order, that is not necessarily what will show as store price - as online & store price can be different. (If they can't find the receipt & dispute the price, get them to enter your C&C order number.)
I asked price of Eneloops a while back - was told many times online price & they would not budge on price. So ordered online in shop & waited for order to be processed, picking up C&C - at online price. They had so much more work to do while I relaxed with a coffee - satisfying.

If you have ever designed or installed large stock systems you would realise the issues. New DS owners are working on it, as I have posted. First step was to clear all old stock & low volume product. (Extensive Quit Stock lists sent to all store managers - to dispose of stock asap - even dump it! I got to see out the back - most items did not exist in the store, just phantom stock on the computer system.)

I never said DS staff or systems should be nominated for Sainthood.
And no store (not even DS) will have totally compenent, honest staff in all situations.

no such thing as a contract with tricky dicky bruce mate, even when it is in writing…
Don't I know it! I have had so many problems in the last two months - an order that never got processed (still waiting for that to be resolved after so many complaints over 2 months); and they cancelled another order by mistake while trying to fix my complaint.

All I got was… $10 to spend at DS!
Thank you for taking time to contact Dick Smith Online.
In relation to your enquiry, we would like to apologise for the inconvenience caused.
Please be advised that we have organised for a $10.00 gift card to be sent to your address.
Once again, we would like to apologise for the inconvenience caused.

But all that is down to incompetent systems.

        • mate you place your order - you get your email - you go to the store the same day to pick the order up as written at the quoted price -the store gets the order out - the same items as on the order -the same stock codes - and tricky dicky staff demand ten times the amount on the printed order for the stock in front of you.

now mate that ain't a system problem -that ain't incompetence - that is grossly dishonest and illegal. If you wanna pretend otherwise them you are bruce supporting anarchy - buy a beer and get charged for 10 - mate that's un-Australian.

        • I thought you were buying the beers. Nah, thats un-Australian ;)
[Most anarchists I have known are great people.]

Under consumer & other law, you have a contract at an agreed price. They have the agreed price as you say on the docket - with the item for collection. Just give them your order number & demand they process the order as a Click&Collect order. (Some staff could stuff that up, so ask for the manager.) In June, many staff were made redundant if they did not accept reduced hours on casual wages. Staff training seems minimal. Paying peanuts will bring problems.

Otherwise it is up to you, with the proof from your order, to take action against DS, as you seem to have a very provable case. So do it! Would love to see DS be taken down :)
