so much quicker and cheaper to just fly there and back…

    • For some people it's about the journey, not the destination…

Back on topic: how much of a deal is this? Standard price, etc?

For some people it's about the journey, not the destination…

crossing Bass Strait overnight is hardly on many people's bucket list…

Can't really take your fully loaded 4WD with attached camper trailer on a plane though :| Or like me it's the only way I can get a car over to Tassie from the mainland so unfortunately it's the only way :( I'm definitely flying back tho ;)

    • I don't fly Jetstar or Tiger so I guess for me the price is comparable - perhaps you can get flights for about $20 less, but the real difference is the ability to bring your car - $84 covers less than two days of car rental - if you are away for a week or more it makes a huge difference.

I know I paid less a couple years ago, actually if I recall the car was free when 2 people went for $60 each, one way

Sorry Chuq, it's a good deal so definitely not worth a neg but not as good as the 'Adults at Kids prices' posted a couple of months back: http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/101308 Obviously seasonal differences at play here, but still.

    • I did notice that one - but this one does cover a few more months, as you said, so I thought I'd post it anyway!

    • And those 'seasonal differences' make a lot of difference. Who in their right mind would go in Winter?

  • Good deal OP!
Advice to travellers : For the love of god pay the extra $66 and book a cabin. Take it from a 'seasoned' spirit passenger, the ocean recliners are hell. At 3am when the boat is listing about and you are exhausted and slumped in chair next a snoring stranger, your OzB ideals will have abandoned you and you will pay ANY amount of money to be in a cabin :)
