  • Can I split the payment so I can use ING card?

    • Yes. Doesn't matter of how you pay (spilt, giftcards etc) as long as the total amount is $100 and over.

      • +3

Yes. You can split the payment for 5,000 times of $0.02 cash payment and will be FREE after round off

        • Whoops, you said cash, not card payments :-P

    • Yep as long as it's all on the same receipt it doesn't matter

      • So the $109 bill I can split payment of $99 ing and $10 cash or other credit card?. Or can i use 2 ing payments in the one receipt?

        • +1

Any of those combos are fine, I split a transaction into 2x ing payments the other week and had no probs with getting the fuel voucher

    • +2

and then pay for the fuel with ING.

so fuel is approx $1.40 in brisbane. less 17cents. so $1.23 then less ing 5% brings it to $1.18ish

  • last time i went to coles (last sunday) they had 17c/l flyers plastered onto all of their trolleys. i didn't look at the details though

  • Coles usually win out since they give $5 back on every $30 you spend where woolworths doesn't.

    • +2

They what? Is this some amazing saving I haven't heard of?

      • Coles and bi-lo here give $5 back on every $30 you spend. The voucher should be on the end of your docket. For instance, today I bought stuff that when not on special would equate to around $53 for $28.50 (thanks to ing paywave). You make sure you only get $35 worth of groceries, then you use your discount to bring it down to $30.xx, this gives you another $5 discount for next time. Much better saving then any of these petrol discounts, and they also give you 4 cent of a litre too.

  • -4

Big discount on petrol is a sign of price hike on petrol.
Anyway 100 in one transaction is pretty big on groceries unless stocking up

    • +3

Really? $100 isn't that hard for anyone who's got a family I generally spend around $100-$120 for a standard shop and up to $170 on a big one. (By family that's me the wife and a 4 year old).

      • -4

2 adults 2 kids. - $80 at woollies a week and $20 on fruit and veg.

        • +5

          do you even eat?

        • +4

I spend more than that per week just on myself.

        • Wow, negged for that? It's all we can afford.

        • Better than most people.

    • +2

You DO know that Coles and Woolworths control a lot of things, but not the price of petrol … right? Also, you DO know that the vouchers last for a few weeks, not just 24 hours, don't you.
No: I am not a Coles, or Woolworths shill. In fact, I highly disrespect both companies for unethical and extremely harsh treatment of Australian farmers. I was speaking to a farmer a few months ago and asked if Coles and Woolworths were treating Australian farmers any better with their new "we look after Australian farmers" campaign. He laughed for a good minute, then wiped the tear from his eye. I took that to mean "no".

      • -1

They DO control the retail price of fuel in many centres DeWalt and weekly discount cycles have disappeared in centres where they dominate. They've done the sums and what they lose at the bowser by offering these incentives is offset by the lack of competition between Coles-Shell and Woolies-Caltex overall.

    • +1

      Yeah,
I was all excited to use my 16c off voucher, only to get on fuelwatch and discover that the cheapest coles was more than 20c dearer than any other brand…

      • Yes. Despite finding no evidence of this last time it was investigated, it is quite clear to me that this happens. I buy from a Shell which is not a Coles one, and it is usually (though not always) cheaper by the amount of whatever recent discount is going around (it was 8c for ages)

  • +6

bahh look at how they control our lives with excess groceries and overpriced fuel

  • +4

In Perth, Coles Express was $1.59 a litre. Same day in Freo-ish, it was $1.43 Far out. Those stations are less than 10km apart.

    • +4

Yeah all Coles/woolies servos are over $1.50, but independents are still at $1.40 in syd (well some of them..) so are these "Savings" really savings, or just a con? More like 7 cents off, same as usual!

      • Woolworths Chullora is consistently one of the cheapest petrol in Sydney especially at the bottom of the cycle since Thursday at $1.37

  • The question is what to buy? It's a bit hard for me to hit $100 grocery for a family of two -_-
does woolies mobile recharge counted towards the $100 spend?

    • +2

i have bought the travel 10's from woolies (NSW) and they count towards the fuel dicount i normally buy 3-4 at a time for my wife

  • +1

Remember a few things: you'll save more buying things when they're discounted than paying full price just to get this 17c docket. Buy only items that are never discounted and/or never change in price. It's unlikely you'll find many discounted items while this deal is on, as it equates to a further 17% off.

    • +1

17% would be the saving if you are paying $1/litre, but I'd imagine most are paying $1.50+/litre now. So approx 12-14% depending on how much you can get your petrol for. Also another factor to consider if its only 7-10 cents saving over an independent, the percentage could be as low as 5% or less at $1.50 a litre. The saving is still worth it as long as you are just sticking to the purchases that you would buy anyways. :)

      • +10

        It's all good advice.
Know how much you normally put in the tank. Eg. 60 litres at 17c = $10.20 saving.
        * Most people will normally have a 4c voucher, so deduct that from the $10.20 (ie. $7.80)
        * If you buy items that are normally on sale, but aren't on sale, deduct that from the $7.80
        * If the items are on sale, and you would need them anyway, stock up
        * If the items are never on sale, and you need them, stock up

If you don't follow these principles and do your sums, you'll almost certainly get ripped off.

For example, if you like Just Right and buy 10 boxes at $8.00 - rather than the sale price of $5, it just cost you $30 … you've blown the $7.80 saving - and cost yourself $22.20 in the process.

My wife laughs at me, because I can have a trolley full (and I mean full), and I can tell you the cost of every item and the total cost - just from memory. It runs in the family ;)

        • I love your suggestions and calculations. I use the above ideas and also factor out the original 4 cent discount as I always use some sort of fuel discount on every fill.

I can also give you the cost of almost every item in my trolley.

I have great fun getting a trolley full of goods to exactly $100 or whatever the target total is on my offer of the week.

      • Sorry, you're right. It actually depends solely on the tank size - the cost of petrol has nothing to do with it. e.g. a 70L tank will save you $11.90. This equates to a 11.9% discount off a $100 food bill. If your car only has a 50L tank, the discount is $8.50 or 8.5%. The cost of petrol doesn't factor in when talking about the savings off your food bill.

        • How could anyone on here say the cost of petrol has nothing to do with it? The cost of petrol has everything to do with it, and you'd only being ignorant if you claim otherwise.

Like in your example, what would be the point in saying you are saving $11.90 if you could buy the same petrol down the road for 17 cents less without a voucher?.. Even the post you were responding to was factoring in disparities in costs.

          "
For example, if you like Just Right and buy 10 boxes at $8.00 - rather than the sale price of $5, it just cost you $30 … you've blown the $7.80 saving - and cost yourself $22.20 in the process."

I like how people take things out of context on forums.. If you were intending to buy it on special, how is that any different to what I stated?…

        • Petrol is usually roughly the same price anywhere you go, besides, you would wait until the right price before using the voucher. You have a month in which to use it.

        • I don't know where you live, but here today.

Woolworths $1.56.9 with 4 cents off.
          Independent $1.47.4

Now that's a considerable difference to me, don't know about you…

Edit: WOW! That's like 13 cents difference, shows how much of a scam these petrol vouchers are.. I like how they are allowed to show the lower voucher price to deceive people too.

  • Caltex just spilt 130,000 litres down the drain, wonder who's going to end up paying for that…

    • +4

Probably the trucking company's insurance provider

      • And how would the Insurance company recoup the loss =)

        • +2

Selling more life and/or funeral insurance.

        • +5

um, by spending over $100 at woolworths and buying 130,000 litres of fuel reduced by 17cents a litre?

        • +1

I don't think $100 would be good enough, as each voucher can only good for 150L max in each transaction… need to spend more… a lot more - back to the drawing board again LOL. jk

        • I don't think insurance companies increase their premiums every time a claim is made, if that's what you're suggesting.

    • 130,000 litres? It was a truck, not a ship! Trucks only carry up to around 40,000 lt (approx 10,000 gal)

  • +2

petrol 1.58 in melbourne - now i know why

    • adelaide 1.58 as well :(

    • Just came back from cheltenham vic, the only safeway petrol in my area (se melb) that still has <1.50 per litre.

    • 4pm Still 137.9 in Western suburbs melbourne at Woolworths. Just filled up using a 15c voucher I had sitting on my account.

  • Sorry to ask what might be an obvious question, but is it this week only or today only or when do I have to do my shopping by?

  • Wow 1c more than coles!

  • +1

Check your EDR email… to activate a better offer for this weekend
1 of my 4 cards is offering
20c/l off with $120 spend or
    16c/l off with $80 spend
    until Sunday 14 July

    • +1

      Who is edr

      • +1

Every Day Rewards email maybe? the one that lets you know there is an offer for fuel discount.. click here to activate the offer.. sounds familiar yet?

        • Sounds like an Everyday Rewards email and matches the targeted offer I received this weekend.

    • I got an offer of 150 qff points when spending $10 on fish.. still has oil I guess

  • When the price gone up in Coles/Woolworths petrol station, the BP one in the city always stay at the lower price for one more day, wonder why. I am in ACT.

  • I think I will just go in and do my standard shop and grab a few MyMulti tickets at the same time.

  • +4

I gave up filling up from these chains as they are obviously monopolising the market.

I have been supporting smaller independent gas stations (Metro) in my area and found that most of the time their standard price equal to the “discounted price” Woolies offers. And you tell me that Woolies did not jack up the price consider they should have a lower cost based with increased bargaining power.

Don’t be fooled by this discount. In fact, be alarmed by these the high fuel discount.
Woolies wants you to be lazy and buy EVERYTHING from them by bundling fuel and grocery.

And my sugesstion is, keep looking for independent before they all disappears.

    • +1

    • +1

not only just fuel companies, these 'buy moar at woolies or coles' help continue their domination in the grocery market killing off smaller stalls

  • Long ago, I got 30c/l discount after I bought 3 boxes of Huggies from Woolworth 4 years ago.

    • +2

So you're a toilet guy aye?

    • +2

i remember a similar deal where I got 30c/l off about 3 years ago. with the discount petrol was 88cents/l. i rember looking at the receipt and thinking that I should frame it because it will never be that low again ever.

      • I remember when it was a scandal that petrol was going up to 50 cents a litre! That was a long time ago.

  • FYI the Coles offer has been extended until the 18th July
Heral Sun Ad from todays paper

  • This shows Petrol from Caltex and Shell should be 17 cents or more less than what is currently out there WITHOUT $100 spent on groceries.

Woolies and Coles are seriously bumping up petrol prices, and lure you to buy their groceries and spend more in the shop. its all lucative

    Its disgusting!

  • +1

what is to stop me from buying expensive items from woolies like heater, blender, coffe machine etc just to get the fuel voucher and then returning the unopened items after using the fuel voucher?

    • Nothing, although some people (do-gooders) here will acuse you of fraud and theft. Power to you my friend if you can get one on these greedy companies, I salute you. And my bets is all that will fake shock and horror here, will do that themselves. Just make sure you dont scan an EDR rewards card and get the petrol coupon printed so its safe in your hands! the 70QFF points you will miss out on are only worth about 30-50 cents. Even better call EDR rewards and tell them You forgot to get your card scanned and they will manually add these points for you. Theyll just ask for a receipt number. Do this before you take back the items for refund!

      • -1

Lol. Luv how you equate basic honesty with "do-gooders". What's the next step - five fingered discounting or buy one take one free because you think they're ripping you off? Dishonesty at any level is a slippery slope.

        • Hmmm, Ive taken that on board- thanks for that, but I really dont care. Have a great day

        • Not big on ethics then? Karma awaits.

    • Couldn't you just buy a $100 gift card? And then use it for your next however many shops.

      • I stand to be corrected, but I think Gift Cards and Tobacco are excluded

        • Gift cards I can understand… but why tobacco? That's weird.

        • Something to do with state govt laws….you cant earn flybuy or QFF points or petrol discounts on tobacco purchases anymore

  • This is a good deal but I only just found the deal discussion. I'm subscribed to Food and Grocery and usually I get an email when these deals come up. I notice that this is in the automotive section. I guess it kind of makes sense as the deal involves purchasing petrol (eventually), but I don't normally check that section.

  • +2

We have moved more than half of our weekly shopping to ALDI now and save more than the 16 or 17 cents per litre. Also our last spend at Coles was AUD 65.— for 2 adults, no way will I buy stuff we don't need to get to the 100.—.

    • Worth noting Woolworths is an Australian company, whereas ALDI is a foreign company, undercutting them.

  • is it acceptable to purchase say $50 normal groceries then add another $50 item (L'real cream) then take the receipt cut the coupon then return it the next day or at another store?..

U r not returning it at a different price but just playing smart…what do u think

    • Is it acceptable to who?

If your refering to other peoples opinion here- do you really care?

If your refering to the supermarkets opinion on this - of course not.

If your refering to yourself- Only you and your moral conscious could answer that!

      • -1

wow….calm down…no need to get angry. i just wanted to get Ozbargainer's opinion

    • +1

      Don't listen to MelbBargainChaser77 …he's just having a bad night ;)…
personally if i have ONLY ONCE done that and have seen a lot who do that but have restrained myself… felt it was not worth the hassle…but i think there's nothing wrong with if u return it at the same price ;)

  • How does the accc allow this kind of behavior?

  • the price of fuel goes up just when the voucher promotion starts :)

    • Fancy that. The good honest folks at Woolworth and Coles are really doing us a favour arent they?

  • Does anyone know if we can get more than one offer in the qualifying period.?

    • Are you asking if you can get more than one 17 cent voucher during the promotion? You can get a voucher each time you spend $100 in a single transaction during the promotion period.

There may be terms and conditions which prevent you from splitting a transaction of several hundred dollars of shopping into several transactions to get multiple vouchers. I'm sure there are ways around this such as going shopping with two people and two trolleys and two registers. You could also do one $100 transaction, load the car with the groceries and then go back in for a second trip.

  • Thanks pointsrazy.

  • +1

So why doesn't someone scan and upload the voucher already, I don't know if these 17c ones are unique but I do know when a 4 cent one doesn't work the cashier just scans one of the used ones from the pile of used vouchers.

    • I can confirm that 17c voucher is NOT unique. Once again some here would acuse not only yourself, but the person that uploads it a fraud and a thief. They all come here to save, but heaven forbid we use the system to our advantage.

      • God forbid that there would be honest people on Ozbargain eh?

        • +1

Your like a serial pest.I get it your an honest decent person. Good for you

  • -2

And honesty annoys you. Good job son.
