7% off and $100 Rebate on Electricity for QLD Residents through One Big Switch

50

7% pay-on-time online discount is off your entire bill (not just on usage charges, like most other offers).

$100 of rebates in 1st year: $50 off your first bill + $50 after 1 year

Smooth, monthly payment plan:
$50 every month plus at the end of the third month (when your meter is read), you get a bill for the actual amount of electricity you have used MINUS any advanced payments you have made.

10c per kWh extra feed-in for solar customers:
You get paid an extra 10c per kWh on top of the feed-in tariff you get from the Queensland government.
But the 7% discount is off the total bill, so you only get the discount off the remaining amount after the feed-in tariffs have been applied to the bill. If the account is in credit, you don’t get any additional discount at all.
In other words, if you use $100 worth of electricity and generate $60 worth of electricity, your 7% discount applies to the $40 difference, not to the entire $100.

No lock-in period.

No break or credit card fees (including Amex).

Qld-based call centre.

The supplier is Click Energy.

I suggest that you also compare this deal to what's offered in this deal I posted.
If you are feeling lazy, you can read this blog post instead which does the comparison for you.

  • Anyone have experience with using Click Energy as a supplier? Sounds quite a good deal, will have to see how it compares to my current rates.

    • I've had no problems so far, no hidden fee's or anything like that, the bills are hard to understand and you have to pay them upfront (kinda like tpg, vaya and live connected only for power)

  • this plan is the same as "Click Easy" but comes with a $100 rebate vs $50 if you go direct,

Note that this plan http://www.clickenergy.com.au/our-energy-plans/click-early/ saves you 9% and also gives you a $50 rebate (going to ring them today and see if you can still get this plan as it normaly works out cheeper over say 2 years).

    • I contacted them via FB asking about that. Here is their reply:

"We have stopped selling this product in Queensland for the time being, but customers who have already signed up to Click Early will still be entitled to this product. We are doing a big of product juggling at the moment and hope to be introducing some new products to the market soon!"

If you are an existing customer with them, you might still be able to get that.

      • Thanks for the update ginmi.

      • So basically the plan is almost the same as their standard retail offer at the moment except with an extra $50 rebate?

    • gee there plans are confusing

with click early you need to pay $110/month in advance

  • i am with click energy atm, no issues at all

  • Can you get this in regional areas?

    • +2

My knowledge is that QLD regional areas can't pick their providers.

      • +1

        That is correct.

Anyone who is outside the Energex distribution area is stuck with Ergon as their only available retailer for the time being.

Energex operates in Brisbane, Ipswich, Gold Coast and the Sunshine Coast. The rest of the state is serviced by Ergon and, unfortunately, does not get a choice for the time being. Instead, they are forced to pay the government regulated rate due to lack of competition.

Beware! In Victoria a lot of the OneBigSwitch offers were exposed as costing the same or more than the regular prices.

The "% off" is off their full prices, which they rarely offer. For example mr_fjackson above points out that the rates are exactly the same as their normal rates, the only offer is a $100/50 rebate.

There may be other retailers offering even cheaper, taking into account direct debit discounts, perhaps a 1 or 2 year contract discount…

  • I am with Origin Energy. The Solar Feed-in-Tariff is 50c per KW, does it means Click Energy will give 50c + 10c = 60c per KW?

Other benefits that i get from Origin are,
    • Base Usage Discount (5%)
    • Direct Debit Usage Discount (1%)
    • Pay-On-Time Usage Discount (2%)

Wonder how this Click Energy is a better deal??

    • The 10c per kWh premium on feed-in tariff is based upon whatever base rate you get from the QLD state government.
      http://www.dews.qld.gov.au/energy-water-home/electricity/sol…

Whatever that rate is for you (will depend on when you applied and qualified for it), Click Energy will pay you 10c over and above that for each kWh you export to the grid.

Click Energy have no contract and don't charge anything extra to pay by credit card (including Amex).

Are you getting that with Origin? If so, good for you. :)

Also, does Origin apply its discounts on both the usage and fixed supply charge? Check your bill!

    • BE VERY CAREFUL. If you are currently getting the 50c/kWh tariff, changing providers could drop you back to the 8c/kWh tariff, if you don't follow the rules exactly. Adding 8c+10c=18c/kWh doesn't even come close to 50c/kWh.

Check and double-check the rules, to make sure you will still be eligible for the higher feed-in tariff.

      • Really??? where do you get this info from??

        • +1

From the link above, the FAQ page says "your eligibility for the 44 cent feed-in tariff will lapse if you: change the name on the electricity account for the premises at which the solar power system is installed to another person (except when the name change occurs directly between spouses)".

There are probably other traps that could happen, like the electricity company filing for a disconnection and reconnection instead of a transfer.

        • My understanding is that it refers to changing the name of the person on the account. Not a change of retailer.

Maybe I am missing something but how is that quote relevant to this deal? If anyone sees it, please advise.

          Cheers :)

        • +1

Surely your "account" is with the retailer? The electicity wholesaler won't care what your name is, they only need to know street address and meter number. It is the retailer who takes care of the billing, and they will have to re-apply for the government rebate on your behalf, presumably using the name you supply. If the name isn't the same as on the original solar rebate application, the govt will probably assume the property has been sold, and drop you back to the 8c tariff.

  • Before the big switch I have been offered from Click ..

9% on time discount fee (on usage and daily charge) paying $110/month (I dont pay anything for my elec as I have top solar and feed in more than what I use but I am looking at this as a 3 month saving plan and my rebate will go straight into my savings account)
10C above the govt solar fee-in tariff (for me this will be 52c)
$50 off first month bill and $50 after 12 months

    No contract

    • Interesting 'forced savings' strategy.
I guess that's another way of doing it.

However, keep in mind that Click does not pay you interest while they hold your money so you are much better off putting these installments directly into a savings account like the current promotional offering from ING

  • I am currently getting 14% usage discount with origin - so no deal

  • Yep, no deal

I'm getting 13% discount from origin atm.
Also remember that the discount with Click only applies to the difference between your import and export(solar) so if you use $100 & generate $60 the discount applies on $40 only. whereas with Origin the discount is on the $100 so greater savings! This only applies to solar customers obviously.
