Dick Smith - Cheap Blu-Ray Players (Philips BDP2930 $48.98)

440

Hi all, I noticed some realllly cheap Blu-ray players on the Dick Smith website. They are NOT available online nor can you check store stock online, but the stores DO have them. I know this because I just purchased the Panasonic 3D player from one of my local stores. The players are:

Enjoy!

EDIT: I'm in Perth, and obviously since the website isn't allowing us to check stock I have no idea about any other cities.

EDIT 2: I can confirm the Panasonic 3D player also comes factory DVD region unlocked for those interested.

Good luck if you can find stock for the cheap one.

    Some have been posted before.

  • Any in Sydney that you know of?

    • No idea mate, you'll have to ring your local. Even if they don't have any, they should be able to tell you if any other local stores do. :)

I found something similar yesterday - the Sony BDPS590 going for $79. I called my local and was told that there were none left in the ACT. There was however "some around Sydney". Happy hunting

        • Found, in Maitland.

I think the deal is good, but strictly speaking this counts as a competition or "game of chance": you need to spend a small amount of money (to phone DS to find if and where it is in stock) and there is a small chance of getting one.

I wish they would reintroduce the ability to see which shops have stock, even if it is a rough indication.

    • +2

Not necessarily - we have a phone plan that gives us unlimited free local calls, so hence no extra cost. I agree that it's annoying that you can't see stock levels online though.

    • +3

Cost of a phone call - Are you serious?
Oh right, this is ozbargain after all :P

      • +4

        Use your office phone lol.

No one shops in Dick Smith stores anymore that's why they have these kind of special. It gives their employees something to do when you call, since the stores are always empty.

    • ROFL!

    • +3

keeps employee busy, keeps the lines busy, makes a good impression for the investors

just too bad they have very strict polices,

      • no price matching
      • no change of mind 14 days refund

but when it comes to getting rid of stock, they do more than 50% off, there's no "1 per customer only", their staff runs amok and some old lady takes the whole baggage of it to re-sell on ebay

      business 101 fail

After they removed the online stock level check, DSE only doing business with their staff now lol.

    • yeah unfortunately I find all the bargains are bought by staff pretty quickly, last time I went in there they had 12 items of stock of which half were bought by store staff before the day began.

  • I was at Fountain Gate today and they had 3 of the Sony BluRay Players BDPS390. I think one was new and the other two were customer returns.

    • Its a nice buy for that price. I thought I was doing well scoring a refurb off Grays for $29. The Wifi would be handy, plus the streaming.

      • For less than half the price of a new one i'd say you did great

  • Going through Click & Collect a lot of these show stock available in most Gold Coast stores.

  • I bought the Philips BluRAY BDP3200 from a DSE deal 2yrs ago. The player doesnt recognized any BluRay or dvd after use it for for 1-2months.

    • Did you return it? Maybe it was just a one off fault.

I had exactly the same problem with the DMP-BDT220, it came as a combo with my new TV. Lasted about 2 months..

Not sure what the go was but I had only watched maybe 3-4 movies on it.

just tried DSE Indooroopilly, none in stock, and as of 9am, the surrounding stores had 1 or 2. No doubt these are all gone. Ah well, good price if anyone was lucky

  • +1

    Thanks, OP. Picked up a Panasonic DMP-BDT220 I didn't need. :D

Now to get rid of the DMP-BD35!

Re: EDIT 2, aren't all blu-ray players region unlocked for DVD's?

    • +1

Nope. I had to unlock my previous Philips player, but maybe that's in the minority. I've only ever had two, the Philips (which began stuffing up) and the brand new Panasonic.

Do any of these Bluray players play copied Bluray disks that have had cinavia copy protection disabled?

  • -6

No stock on any items listed.

Thanks op. Just bought this one —> Panasonic 3D BluRay Player DMP-BDT220 $79

      where? + any left?

      • +1

Strathpine/Brisbane. It was the last one.

I have one of the $49 Philips ones, its been really good. The USB port reads NTFS drives and will play a fair chunk of my media files. I don't use it for anything except Blu-ray Disks since getting my Raspberry Pi however.

    Optical media, how cute.

  • +1

Is the $58 Philips 3D one region unlocked?

    • +1

For this type of big brand player I don't think they have region unlocked.

  • +3

Is Dick Smith going out of business soon? Seems like they have fire sales every day.

  • +2

was about to buy one then remembered i have a PS3 that i dont use (also bought from DSE!)

    • +1

      I'll give you $38 for the PS3

    • +1

I'll give you $100 for it!

  • I got a new bdps390 this morning, streaming media to it now, awesome. lots showing up when you ask stores in melb region but mostly demo models that the stores won't part with lol.

  • Gonna call my local to see if they have anything. I'd love a Sony BDPS390.

  • Panasonic 3D BluRay Player DMP-BDT220 $79
Available at Newcastle, Greenhills and Maitland.

  • The only stock left of the DMP-BDT220's in WA were demo/display models and even though I would have been willing to buy them from a branch close to me; they didn't actually have the boxes/cables/remotes for them anymore.

I did manage to find a branch that had 5 or so DMP-BD77GNK's, but the reviews are pretty terrible.

I really should learn to not let DSE get my hopes up.
