To celebrate Google's release of their Google Maps app for iOS, I'm making EggMaps HD free for the next few days.*

Try them both. Keep them both, if you like. If you find EggMaps HD useful, tell your friends.

I'll be releasing a (free, lite) ad-supported version of EggMaps HD soon. Anyone who downloads the current version before this deal ends gets to keep their ad-free (premium) version. iOS7 updates will also be coming soon.

*Until 12am 25/7/2013 in your local app store timezone. There is a slight chance I'll end the deal earlier (if the number of daily map loads gets too high).

    Here is my 2c worth

    I installed this app when it was for free a while ago and used it a few times to "test" it.
    Basically its US based and doing a search for AU locations brings up US locations first.
    Im sorry to say that Google Maps for i Pad (http://www.appshopper.com./navigation/google-maps) has just had a new update and i have to say that im very impressed with the interface and new program codeing.
    Looking at your app again just now sees me looking at the same US based interface that i saw 6 months ago.
    OP, Sorry for being negative here, if you dont agree with me then please let me know your thoughts so that you can change my mind

      Hi RSV1000, thanks for your feedback. EggMaps uses location biasing, which means that it does take your current location into account when searching (within a certain radius, I think 50km from memory).

      I'm not sure what you mean by a "US-based" interface; I'm based in Perth W.A. . When I start typing "stat…." or "libr…", the search suggestions are all local.

      I'd be interested to see some examples of your searches. I may or may not be able to fix your issue: the parameters are sent to Google, and Google returns a list of location matches.

      Edit: given that it's 1:15am in Perth and 3:15am on the East coast of Australia, am I correct in guessing that you're not in Australia?

        Your new update seems to be working alot better now.
        When i downloaded this app when it first came out it has a few bugs
        (rotation issues and always going back to the US instead of Au when you loaded the program up again)
        Your new updated seem to be alot better.
        When i downloaded it again 10 min ago it brought up the eastern coast of US as the starting point.. Now that its found my location, its now starting up at my location again each time i start it up (Which it didnt do before>

        Regardless, It seems to be working better now with your new updated.
        Ill keep using both Google maps and Egg maps

        My recommendation,
        Change your iTunes iPad Screenshots to AU locations instead of San Fransisco USA
        just my marketing opinion

      It's entirely your choice. Try it out and see. Google Maps has more features; EggMaps has an interface designed to be easy to learn and use.

    Hi Rep, I find that I can't zoom in as much on egg maps vs google maps. When I try to it just springs back to the same zoom level.
    Is this an error or a setting you have built into the app?

      Hi dan76n,

      The map, including the zoom function, is provided by Google (via the service they provide to developers). Google has their own (different) service for their own maps, to which developers don't have access, so I'm not surprised you're seeing a few differences.

      There is a known bug where the zoom level will "snap" back if you have tracking turned on (the icon in the lower-left corner). Try turning tracking off to see if you get an improvement. (geek note: this is due to difficulties in distinguishing between the "pinch" event and "drag" event in the map view: the "pinch" gesture also sends spurious "drag" notifications).

    Good app. I like the feature to select the from location based on my location not by search for a name.
    The interface design is not very nice :(

      Thanks for the feedback cpeter. Regarding your comment, "The interface design is not very nice", are you just referring to the colours? Or the usability? If you can afford the time, I'd really appreciate more detail.

      The colours will be changing with the next release, when iOS7 is released.
