  • i'm quite interested in picking one of these up, i've been searching for some reviews.. can't seem to find much on it. can anyone recommend this model in particular?

  • +1

Nope, AVOID these Supernet PVRs. They are RUBBISH. They look great when you get them, sure there are a few problems setting them up, and they seem to work OK for a few weeks.

But then they stop recording particular channels. Then they freeze, and need a power cycle. Then they stop recording halfway through shows.

Eventually the PVR side of things stops working altogether.

I'm saving my cash for a PlayTv for the Playstation. Will never, ever buy a Supernet again.

  • thanks for that feedback blitz — i was tempted for that price- but based on what you have said i'll definitely save my cash instead!

  • I think these type of units are notorious for overheating, which is why you need to get a good branded one - either that or a HTPC

  • A mate bought a Digitec PVR on eBay a while back, and it did indeed run VERY hot. (When the outside case is too hot to hold your hand against without pain, you know that the electronics are going to be aged very quickly.) He was able to fit a neat and simple mod' using a slim 12V cooling fan running off the 5V supply (so that it runs quietly) mounted within the case, above the offending PSU. Since then (and a firmware upgrade) he's been very happy with the unit.
I scored a Panworld HDT-9750P HD PVR on eBay about 9 months ago for about the same money and with very similar spec's to this Supernet box. It runs quite warm, but not hot to the touch and has masses of ventilation slots. Perhaps I've been lucky, but I've not had a single problem with this PVR and have been very happy with its performance and features for the money.

    Cheers,
    Live Long and Prosper.
