Started today (August 1st) the award winning Xbox 360 exclusive Crackdown (Normally 800 points) will be free for Xbox LIVE Gold members through August 15th .
From 16th DR2 will be free..

Makes no difference though, you need to buy the subscription and this is now a part of the sub.
actually I registered for a new xbox live account on my xbox 360 a few days ago, refused to pay for gold, then xbox offered me 1 month free trial. I got assassin's creed and 3 other arcade games for free.
The downloaded game is available to all users of that console
I'm gonna cancel subscription in 2 weeks time

So in that case we can keep on creating new accounts for free games, since won't play online.
Gold trial doesn't work with these free games.
Most people with an Xbox would have a Gold Live account already in order to play online, unless they are forcibly adamant against paying for Live (to their own detriment imo, considering the low cost and high benefit of the service). Therefore, since the subscription is a sunk cost for most people, its free game vs no free game, deal in my book.
However, beakeroo, if you are going to be consistent and not simply be a PS fanboy (which seems likely based on your posting history), you should make this same comment on the PS+ deal going on right now.

Your statement is wrong.
The free game gets permenantly tied to your xbox live /ms account not your gold subscription (two separate things)
You can continue to play these free games if you decide to let your accounts subscription to xbox gold lapse in which case it becomes a silver member sub (which costs nothing and is the default status ypu get when you create an acct) which will no longer have the benefits of a gold sub (no multiplayer, no future free games and other perks that come only with gold member subs)

Not sure how my statement is wrong? You need to be subscribed in order to download don't you or is that wrong? I haven't mentioned anything about whether you need to keep a subscription.
as I mentioned above, you can actually get the subscription for free (1 month gold trial) by creating a new account on xbox

Most gamers know that a new gamer tag will give you a month of live free, but you can't choose what account the trophies sync to , so your friends know what you've been playing etc
I have gold years ago but not playing online anymore (actually seldom play games now).
Just want to own it and try it out but I don't think I will play it for long so not worth to buy gold again.
@Tal_Shiar you don't have to give up your gamer tag :) just create a new one to download the free games, then sign in with your normal account. It worked for me

Oh my. DR2 is my shopping sales simulator. Training for Boxing Day sales, just with better outfits. The rest is preeeetty accurate.
crackdown is a bit meh but DR2 is a classic

I quite liked Crackdown back in the day, keeping in mind it predates Prototype and Infamous which are arguably more well rounded titles.
The only problem is it's one of those games that in a way gets easier the further you go since taking over territories reduces the enemy count and weapons available.
Never played the sequel, but I think it is worth a crack. I could never find the last 4 orbs I needed to get the achivement for finding the lot of them.
damn! i own these already, although the contect pack for DR2 will make it spark a little more fun back into it. And crackdown was an awesome game. I just hope this spurs some life back into the online portion of it. Such an under rated game. Crackdown 2 was even better, but the online part of it that holds the most interest has all but died. Looks like ill have a lot more players in the short term :D

sorry mate maybe I got the link wrong, but I just google "xbox live gold $1" and clicked all the links and eventually got one that worked. Then downloaded assasins creed II, spartacus legends. Crackdown i'll do tonight.

Its annoying but I still see myself getting something out of this move by Microsoft and appreciate the thought.
I think as the old games won't be available on xBox One, Microsoft is encashing the existing games to get more and more users on the Gold accounts and increase online presence.
I had the $1 gold month offer come up on my dashboard a month ago, which I took.
That was on June 29. It expires August 1 (still active as I type this).
For this dollar I've grabbed Fable 3, the tower defence game, Assasin's Creed 2, and now Crackdown.
Going to give this another crack at the end of August I think (even if I have to pay $10 or whatever one month is)

Loved this game when I first played it. Collecting orbs is extremely addictive! Odd choice though - a launch title that has a relatively old sequel.
Great game in its day. You'll never look at skyscrapers the same way again after playing this one for a while.
