  • man they make it difficult to find the IOPS of the sanDisk!

not the perfect max IOPS figure you probably want, but allow you to compare real performance to other drives

    • ahh found it too:
Max Sequential ReadUp to 530 MB/s
Max Sequential WriteUp to 445 MB/s
4KB Random ReadUp to 82,000 IOPS
4KB Random WriteUp to 39,000 IOPS
      MTBF2,000,000 hours

      • Hi wisc,

Thanks for feedback, updated specifications with the speeds and IOPS.

        regards

I recommend http://ssdboss.com for easy comparisons. They have all of them there.

  • Damn that's a tempting laptop. I've never seen a 21:9 laptop before. Does anyone know if/when it's going to get the haswell treatment? I'd love it with haswell and a 128GB SSD. Hopefully other manufacturers follow suit with the 21:9 ratio. I can imagine it being handy for productivity (2 docs side by side) and movies. Got a great response in a deal a little while ago for $699 at dick smith, this one is $50 cheaper so great price!

    • It has both 500GB drive and a 32GB msata cache drive, so you will get some ssd performance improvements right out of the box. I wonder how hard it would be to put a 128GB msata drive into it and make this a two drive machine.

I doubt this laptop will get the Haswell treatment; you may be looking at the first AND last 21:9 laptop.

    • Yup - the resolution of this laptop makes it a great movie entertainment companion, as well as provide a better environment for people who work with 2 windows very often.

      • How hard would it be to replace the msata cache drive with a larger drive?

        • It wont be too difficult. But the msata is running in raid with the HDD. If you are thinking about using them as 2 separate drive, you will have to break the raid and reinstall everything.

The raid is used to achieve the ssd like performance.

  • Hi Rep,

Any chance of a deal on any 15.6" Intel i3 Toshiba notebooks around the $500 mark? Like the deal you had recently on the Satellite L850?

    Thanks,

    Paul

    • Hi Paul,

We constantly have laptop deals in our newsletter promotions (you can consider subscribing our newsletter to be informed) and we will try to post more laptop deals on ozbargain whenever we can.

We do have another upcoming laptop deal this sunday in our Epic Hour
however it is over your $500 budget.

      Regards
      SE

Not a bad sale but definitely not as good as the site puts it out to be. The SSD is $3-$16 cheaper than MSY, the Laptop is $120 cheaper than most places with them in stock.

Still, a saving is a saving. Wouldn't make me buy one unless I was already in the market for it. Definitely got me visiting the store to check out the epic hour.

  • nvm

  • Hey rep, any deal on SanDisk Extreme SSDs ? There are known issues of the late 2008 macbook pro's working only at SATA I speeds instead of being capable of SATA II speeds. Sandisk released a firmware update to run the Extreme SSDs (not the Ultra Plus) at SATA II speeds.

    Thanks !

Edit - More information for the curious

    • Hi rohanp16,

We will work hard on the Sandisk Extremes and hoped to bring something out in the next few weeks.

      Regards
      SE

      • Sweet, will be keeping an eye out ! I'm really keen on an SSD for my laptop, just need to find one that gives me the SATA II speeds instead of SATA I because of the nVidia controller. EIther ways, SATA I or II, I'm sure it will be a noticeable difference compared to my current disk !

  • Hi Rep,
How long does this deal last for?
I need to replace the hdd on my 3 year old laptop but I need to read up on ssd's to see which one is best and/or if it's compatible on such an old laptop.
    Thanks.

    • These sandisks should be fine, they are pretty interchangable with HDDs. Sometimes the different hard drive widths can be a problem, but these shouldn't give you any problems on a 3 year old laptop.

    • I need to replace the hdd on my 3 year old laptop

That's not very old. 3 years = SATA 2 tech, and is compatible with any SSD. You just need to make sure you buy a slimmer SSD to ensure it fits (Samsung 840 for instance)

      • Thanks for the info guys.

I'm actually thinking of getting the Sandisk 256GB as that's better bang for buck.
So the Sandisks are thicker than the Samsungs so it may not fit in my laptop? :-(

        • best bet is to google your laptop and get the specs then compare HDD size, (or rip it out and make sure its sata - would be surprised if it wasnt)

        • The Sandisk is a 7mm drive just the same as the Samsung.
I really like the Sandisk :) haven't checked what speeds I'm getting but they are quite reasonable.

        • Cool.
Once I get home I'll open up the laptop and try and find out the dimensions of the hdd.
I'm sure the Sandisk will fit.

  • Pity the ultrabook only has a 3 cell battery. Do you sell a larger battery for it? If so, how much? Thanks.

    • Hi xuqi,

We don't sell the large battery yet. 3 cell battery is quite a norm these days on ultrabook. The current estimated battery life is around 3-5 hours (depending on usage).

      Regards
      SE

    Hi Rep
can you make a deal on any i3 ultrabook 13" ?

    • Second this request.

The Toshiba ultrabook is a great machine if you can get used to the weird screen. DSE had it on special for $399 a couple of months ago. I missed out on that deal but a friend of mine got it and absolutely love it.

      • Hi andrew81,

Not sure if you are referring to this DSE special for $699, not the $399 you mentioned. I checked through our current models and we do not have any i3 ultrabook that can beat the price of today's Toshiba Core i5 Ultrabook. So you might want to reconsider this deal again?

        Regards
