Hello Ozbargain Users!

I have recently released a website that provides cheap iPhone unlocks for Australian cellular networks.
I've been a longtime Ozbargain lurker so I have decided to post up a deal to give back to the community.

This coupon is good for 20 uses at the moment, and I will decide depending on the success wether to release more at a later stage.

Thanks all!

  • I thought that all Australian Carriers offer iPhone unlocking for 'free'?

Why should one use your service?

    • Yes and No.
Telstra will only let you unlock the phone if you are the original holder.
And the rest I think will only let you once you are at the end of the plan, which is difficult for people going overseas.
Or most charge you if you want to unlock it early, a lot more than I am offering.

        What CRAP!

And the rest I think will only let you once you are at the end of the plan, which is difficult for people going overseas.

More CRAP! And you "think"? So you have done no research, have no knowledge of what you are doing?

Or most charge you if you want to unlock it early, a lot more than I am offering.

        More CRAP!

        NEG FROM ME.

        • Hey man, if you're going to have that attitude and seem so certain about it, where is your evidence?
What prompted me to start this service was that I bought an iPhone off gumtree locked to Telstra. I went into the Telstra shop and was told that I had to contact the original phone holder for the phone to be unlocked. Who would honestly do this?

        • Hey man, if you're going to have that attitude and seem so certain about it, where is your evidence?

My knowledge and common sense. Call TELSTRA and ask them. All they require is the IMEI number and your first name.

Not many. Most most call TELSTRA and ask for their Phone unlocking department.

You might want to protect the directories/files on your site(s). I just went and looked around and inside them.

          Especially the http://joeyhotz.com/ one.

Agreed, very easy to look around and probably download the whole shebang if one wished to. Yeesh.

          LOL gawd…

Actually at least I'm getting some empty dirs and permission denied errors from there, certainly didn't hit any of those on the other site.

$30 for unlock service ? You can easily buy unlock code from Ebay for less than $5 dude. No wonder it's 70% off, still make $4/unlock heh ?

    • You can easily buy unlock code from Ebay for less than $5

      Why the need to 'buy'/pay?

Are these services for 'unlocking' stolen handsets that are IMEI blocked?

You know, the handsets that the carrier will not unlock any more.

      • There is a difference between Network Locked and Network Blocked.
-Locked: when you get your phone through signing contract (cannot use simcard from other providers)
-Blocked: the phone is reported as stolen/lost —> cannot make phone call at all in Australia.

If your phone is blocked, there is noway you can Unblock it as far as i know.

Why need to buy unlocked code? Most of the time you need to do this when you buy second hand phone, not everyone (seller) know that they can unlock the phone themselves by calling the provider tho (elders, low-tech people or too rich that they don't care :P), so you will need to unlock yourself by using code.

Source of info: I used to work at a phone shop :)

        • If your phone is blocked, there is noway you can Unblock it as far as i know.

There are unscrupulous people advertising on eBay and Gumtree that they will unlock your stolen handset for a price.

-Blocked: the phone is reported as stolen/lost —> cannot make phone call at all in Australia.

Not true. These are iPhones. An IMEI blocked iPhone can be used in Australia to make and receive calls and texts etc.

Maybe you did, in the past - BUT we are talking about NOW, and we are talking about iPhones.

          No CODE for iPhone unlocking.

  • Very soon you'll be able to find iPhone's at prices you wouldn't dream of.
Very soon you'll be able to sell broken iPhone's at prices couldn't think of.
Very soon you'll be able to buy specially design iPhone backplates.
Very soon, this will be a reality.
    Very soon.

    Yeah, right.

    Can't wait. </sarc>

    • Wow dude, why are you so negative?

  • Dodgy!

        <MOD - Personal attack>

That page is mostly talking about "Phones" not "iPhones".

iPhones supplied at a reduced price as part of a Pre-Paid SIM deal may not be unlocked for free depending on the amount of credit that has been added to the SIM account - and/or the amount of time since the iPhone/SIM were purchased. However, these are mostly OPTUS Pre-Paid not Voda.

        Unlocking an iPhone?
There's no need to use the unlocking tool, the process is pretty easy. Check out our instructions, Nick also runs you through the process here:

    • It depends on the handset and whether youre lucky or not. I bought a prepaid vodafone Huawei X3 some time last year, many users were able to unlock it via the above link for free. However for some unlucky people, like me, it didnt work, so I had to buy an unlock code from ebay.

        Please read the title.

The OP posted about iPhone unlocking.

    • I think vodafone user can always unlock their handset for free

      Correct.

And Three and OPTUS offer the same service.

As does TELSTRA but by phone (not an automated on-line service).

Blah Blah Blah… You know what's meant to be here.

This is a SCAM, unlocking is FREE

  • This is a SCAM, unlocking is FREE

    Spammy as well.

BTW Since when did calling someone stupid become a "Personal Attack"?
Especially when they had proved themselves to be stupid.

I really wonder how the OP is going to collect payments. They can't have a PayPal account at that age.

  • I had better re-write/edit this comment before it gets removed….
