  • Does not look good, runs 2.3 (gingerbread)

Better to get something like the huawei y201 with Androd-4 and 4GB of flash. Frequently $39 or 49 and easily unlocked.

  • No. It's one the worst, most glitch ridden phones I've had & online feedback will tell you the same. The screen locks up constantly & the wifi hotspot app is worse than useless. Get a used Galaxy S if you just want good mobile net access on the cheap.

  • ANYTHING with Motoblur needs to be avoided… unless you can flash custom roms onto it

  • The Y300 is better.

  • 4" Huawei G300+ from Target/DSE is $99. Has 850/900/2100 3G (all carriers)
4" Huawei Y300 from DSE is $99 (ending today). Has 850/2100 3G (Telstra/Voda, Optus sux on it).

Both are easily unlocked via OZB user 'bagman' for a few $$. Y300 is better with dual-core, JB and slightly bigger battery. This Motorola is like major pov compared to these, therefore I negged the deal.

It also has Gorilla Glass, Dust and Water Resistance, Compass and the others cost FIFTY PERCENT more. This is quite adequate as A PHONE or a GPS and is cheap, and will work on most of the cheap providers like live connected or the like that use optus without stuffing round.

Comparing it to something 50% more expensive is ridiculous

      • Phone, Compass and A-GPS (Note it is not a FULL GPS, A-GPS is practically useless without cell coverage) are all standard features on any Smartphone. Gorilla Glass is fairly common. Dust and Water Resistance at this price point is the only thing going for it.

Gorilla glass is unusual AT THIS PRICE POINT too, and GSMarena states A-GPS ASSISTED GPS
ur also talking 50% price difference so the phones are not comparable was the main point.
The build quality/durability difference between a Moto with Gorilla Glass and a Huawei with nothing like are going to be large.
If somebody wants something simple and durable with GPS and basic browsing etc for instance as a back up phone or for the safety of their kid (or keeping an eye oin em with something like wheresmydroid) then the Motorola is obviously a better buy, in fact in my mind it seems a great choice - not everybody cares about speed.

          TL;DR
          Phones not comparably priced
Cheaper phone is MUCH more durable - be great for kids or backup phone
          Both are valid choices.

edit - just to be clear - the G300+ is a better specced phone, totally agree, but if i was picking between the 2 for my kid i would go the moto. I also dont feel a phone 2ce the price is a valid comparison.
The Huawei Y201 is last I looked available for $49 telstra locked and is very similar to the G300+ and costs $5 to unlock (if you are happy to ignore your contract with telstra, another matter) But I would still go the Moto if I were getting it for my kid.
And really my main issue is I seriously dont think it is a reason to neg the poor guy's deal, it isnt like it is something people need dire warnings against of the kind a neg generally signifies - I dont see why a comment wasnt enough.

        • You raise some very valid points.

        • Where can I get the Y201 for $49?

      • -2

By that same argument, the OP is better waiting for Coles to do the Huawei Y201 on special again for $39/$49 as they do every next week. It has Gorilla glass and runs ICS 4.0. A better specced phone for nearly half the price.

This deal deserves the neg to warn users. Else they may end up with a pov pack that they'll resell on ebay for $15.

        • ".. a pov pack .."

Ok, I give in. You've mentioned "pov pack" twice now. What is it? Or do you mean pos pack?

        • I was just thinking the same thing! scratches head

  • this one had an unlock detailed guide last time it was on here,

  • Thanks for everyone comment. I used to use HTC explorer as wifi hotspot and it was very good. I gave it to my mum ;) to TRY smart phone so I need another one to do the job. Actually there is HTC Wildfire S locked with Telestra costs $59. There are so many under $100 to choose. That's why I post this deal to see is bargain or not as it saves $120. But not good spec?

    • It is pretty old spec wise, but it is also likely the most physically solid phone (gorilla glass, dust resistance, water resistance) in the price point so I reckon it is a bargain to the right buyer. Be an ideal fist phone for a kid.

  • The key point mentioned above "For a kid" is probably the only reason I would buy this. I had the original Defy and can vouch that the glass takes a huge beating and the water resistance is great. The slogan they used was "life proof" and having had the phone in the sea, drop in mud then hosed off, on a building site filled with plaster dust etc I will agree with that.
Peace of mind that pretty much everything your kid throws at it will be ok.

As a hotspot, the original worked fine as well.

Telstra Uno is $29 at Coles (Baulkham Hills) Runs 2.3.5. I'm not saying it's better. Just putting it out there.

  • how is this phone compare to Telstra LG L3 (special for $34.95 at Woolworths start 07/08)
I previously bought Huawei Y201, G300 and Y300 and in my opinion, Korean phones are somewhat better(bundled software, software support, online support)
Huawei Y201 I have issue with stock touch keyboard (its crap)
Huawei Y300 honestly, i dont feel the dual-core processing power, original galaxy s still smoother in my oppinion.
Huawei G300 this is what i would call a good budget phone, own it for 1 year when it first came out and was happy with it.
