Microsoft is offering Windows Vista Ultimate (Upgrade) SP1 to Australian Uni and TAFE Students (and staff I believe). You need to have a valid university email address (*.edu.au I imagine).

Offer is only available online - you can download the installation disc yourself or have one sent to you for an extra $14.

Microsoft seems to be doing this in conjunction with the Office Ultimate offer for $75 that they seem to have done for the last few years. There is also some other software available on the website.

You can say all you want about Vista, but this is a good deal for students in the market for software - this would normally retail for over $200.

According to the Microsoft Website, this deal is available until further notice.

just a note, you can get the file off the aarnet mirror. (if you're at a university that uses aarnet as their isp, this download is therefore free)

i'm paying a visit to piratebay now

  • can i do a "clean install" using this windows vista ultimate upgrade version if i don't have the previous version of vista?

    • Unfortunately, the upgrade part means you must be upgrading form one of a range of approved Microsoft Windows operating systems

  • Thanks for posting this. I wouldn't use Vista and am waiting for Windows 7 but this is still good to know.

  • yeah its cheap…but honestly vista sucks lol wait for windows 7! But still cheap to have! and if you aren't a university student you can ask me or something

  • im at deakin and we get basically all operating systems as a free download and a range of other other windows programs, sad thing is it doesnt cover office, still pretty good but. and updates untill we finish uni, nice price thoe for this

    • How can you not just take advantage of the $75 Office Ultimate deal from MS for Uni students…

As a non student I sure wish I could get it that cheap.

    • yeah same here at UNSW vista, xp is free, but not office.

      • At CSE only?

I can't say for sure, but 2 years ago when I dd the Office 07 promotion I was able to pick up a copy of the CD from the campus. If you don't want to download and/or burn a copy, it may be worth throwing an email to the Student IT area or whoever to see if they're going to offer the disc.

  • I love this and the MS office promotion they had a while ago.

alunedi7: There is a trick to using an upgrade disc only. Google it.

    • But you'll need to burn a bootable ISO disc. I found how to do it, but got an evaluation disc in the end.
Not sure whether the evaluation period is available in these downloads though.
