  • I want that case.

      • It only supports low profile PSI cards no?

        • +1

          Yep.

I went for the GD06 in my recent gaming / HTPC build…same width and length, but 45 mm higher for full height cards.

        • +1

I have a GD06 too. Great looking case at a bargain price.

        • Yeah I love my GD06…heaps of space for drives and fans too :)

  • can you do it as a 2T hd?

    • Hi David. you're all welcome to e-mail us at [email protected] with your requirements. We will then put up a quote and email you back. thank you

    Can you install TiVo? :-P

    • WMC is very similar to TiVO

      • As long as it makes the 'do, dip, da dip' sounds when fast-forwarding, I'm sold.

  • What software does it run?

    • +1

      Operating System Not Included

      Nothing!

(You would need to buy a windows licence and media center from somewhere).

Hi everyone. From previous experiences, we have noticed that many of our customers do actually have their own copies of software and they do put suggestions that we should not bundle those software anymore. Therefore, for this deal, no software bundled. Thank you.

Plenty of people with HTPCs run something like openelec or XBMC on linux (both free). Offering a Windows license as an optional extra would be fine but I think a deal for this type of PC is better without bundling an OS.

    • +2

Personally on my HTPC, I am running Ubuntu with XBMC. Free, great support and much, much quicker then Windows.

      • Yep using Openelec on both of my systems…

  • Do you answer any random question we ask here?

    • +2

if so- if you accidentally ate your own tongue, what would it taste like?

      • +3

That actually made me stop and think. But shhh, Internet forums are not the place for stupid questions…

        • Especially not in the AV forum. Now why won't anyone answer my TiVo question? Oh… my tongue's hanging out again… :-P

Very good price, especially for a prebuilt system:
    CPU: ~$150
    Mobo: ~$80
    RAM: ~$80
    HDD: ~$70
    ODD: ~$55
    Case: ~$75
    PSU: ~$65
    Tuner: ~$130

    Total: ~$705 (excluding build fee)

The components have been chosen well for a HTPC too.

  • It requires dedicated gpu if someone planning to use madVR and LAV filters.
    IMO, 4GB ram is enogh.

  • Oh… I've been looking for a HTPC… Tempted… Can anyone nit pick anything about this package. The only thing I think I might change is the TV tuner. I'm thinking of getting a Kaiser Baas Dual Network Tuner thing instead…

    • There's really nothing wrong with it. The CPU is a low powered one (35W TDP) but has enough speed for almost anything you'd do with a HTPC (as above by amir, madVR and LAV might push it a bit much though, but these aren't necessary), the motherboard has everything you need, and nothing wrong with any of the other parts. I can't say much about the tuner as I don't know a lot about it, but from what I've read it's pretty decent (and for the most part a tuner either works or it doesn't, not much more to it).

      • In comparison there's Aldi's PC this weekend:
        https://www.aldi.com.au/en/special-buys/saturday-24-august-2…
        Which is $599

        CPU's are on par?
        http://cpuboss.com/cpus/Intel-Core-i3-3220T-vs-AMD-A8-5500

Aldi's has 4GB compared to 8GB with this deal.

I suppose the case and power supply are also important factors for a HTPC…

        Any other thoughts?

        • The CPUs are similar in performance, but the i3 3220T is a lot more efficient and will use a lot less power - fairly important for a HTPC that will likely be on for long periods of time. Similar thing for the PSU - the Aldi one won't be as good and hence will be less efficient.

The only advantage the Aldi system has is the wifi, but you can pick up a card or USB dongle fairly cheaply if you need it.

  • What upside would this have over say buying a cheap laptop?

    • More storage options instead of relying on USB, NAS, faster CPU, expandability, aesthetically matches HT equipment. It's a valid question and there are plusses to a cheap laptop but there are a lot of possibilities with this. If all you want to do is plug in a HDMI cable and play media from your external drive in VLC then a laptop may be better suited.

  • Is the Hauppauge HVR2200 tuner really any better than Kworld DVB-T PE310 Plus or Leadtek WinFast DTV2000DS Plus (if you can use PCI)?

I have been using the leadtek for ages and can't fault it.

  • Hi Rep, What's the sound card on this? Would I be able to plug in Logitech Z506 Surround Speakers for 5.1 sound?

    • Presumably has onboard audio, if your speakers have digital inputs then you'll need a single cable, otherwise you'll need 3 or 6 for analogue 5.1. I assume the backplane has 3.5mm outputs.
