I saw this catalog. Why is Guy Leech stuff so cheap?

    • +5

Maybe because the brand name is creepy

On a serious note, who calls their brand Guy Leech

      • He was a surfer.

        • +5

I thought he was an 'ironman'…

        • +33

Whoops, typo.. it's right next to ironman on the keyboard

      • +2

        Guy Leech would!

        • +1

Only a sucker would buy Guy Leech stuff.

    • Returned some guy leech shorts. Bought 4 pair of them figuring they were ideal for training (lightweight quick dry zip pocket). Two pair broken within a month.

Would pay more for quality. Guy leech is not it. Will be looking elsewhere.

      • I have a few shirts that are holding up fine - especially since they were $7 on clearance.

If its a good deal or bargain , why not !!

You need to list a few, it's part of the OZB rules.

OZB is not a place to list catalogues.

  • Also K-Mart has 20kg plastic weights set for $29 in their latest catalogue, which is pretty cheap.

  • Does anyone know how much weight this bar is rated for?

  • +5

Just be aware that this is the 'vinyl' type weight set, not the standard steel weights. This basically means you cannot mix and match with other sets.

The bar would be rated for the weights that come with the set, not designed to be used with additional weights.

Be super careful with some of the benches too. Some are only rated to 100kg. That is your body weight plus what ever you are lifting. Worth it to spend a few more dollars for something that wont injure you.

Not just a "few" more dollars however. :(

      • +3

        He forgot to add "hundred".

      • Yes, if you want serious equipment then you'd spend >$500 on a bar alone (and more like $1500 for a good one). Once you've outgrown these cheap sets it's probably more sensible to join a gym/club that has all the equipment you need.

  • crap ones, dont buy!

    • How can one type of cheap plate weights be any worse than others? They're surely on Eleiko - but they're a heavy thing that you pick up and put down.

      • 50 kilos is nothing if you are actually doing weights though. I am not a big lifter at all but 50 kilos is what my starting warm up is.

You can't add weights to this set or use it with other sets. So 60 bucks is cheap for weights but if you are planning to use the weights they will become useless fairly quickly. If you are going to abandon them and leave them in the garage then it is a good deal.

I can't even lift 50kg with two hands, how do I purchase this?

    • Most of these barbell/dumbbell sets come inside a long plastic carrying suitcase with wheels on one end.

    • +4

Sounds like you need to work out with weights more. I'd suggest you buy a plate weight set.

      • When I bought my 50kg vinyl set it came in three boxes, and they made me collect it from their dock (rebel sport, but big w has a dock too)

    • Oh the irony

    • I can't even lift 50kg with two hands, how do I purchase this?

I suggest you do a few stretches, bit of a warm up, then breathe deeply, lift your credit card out of your wallet (bend your knees), then buy this product. Should have you on to an advanced workout in no time!

  • I bought this last time. although I still haven't used more than 10 times but the build quality is pretty good..

  • These are pretty cheap for beginners. Concrete encased in plastic I think.
However you won't be able to add extra weights to it because:
    a) The bar is most likely only rated for the plates it comes with (meaning you probably shouldn't put on plates from other sets).
    b) You can't add traditional plates onto it due to the weird hole size.

  • You'd be better off buying two sacks of potatoes

  • Just bought this one from Big W Sunshine. These weight plates are 2 ~ 3 times bigger than the plates that you see in the gym. However, I'm satisfied as it's so cheap !
