  • MSY has Seagate 500GB SATA for $86.

    • Cheapest being $84, which is more than $79.95. What's the point? (Although ARC does have much better reputation than DailyGizmo IMHO)

  • Hmmm hopefully these are fine but this model of HDD amongst with a LOT of others from Seagate just had major problems with a very high % of them dying.

Essentially they had dodgy firmware on them and needed to be 'flashed' with new firmware or they became 'bricks' and any data on them was essentially lost.

I've read Seagate wasn't reflashing themselves, rather unloading older stock and leaving to the consumers to do - I've no idea if this is true or not but theres a LOT of cheaper deals on Seagate 7200.11 HDDs going lately - which just happen to be the ones affected by the bad firmware.

    So caveat emptor folks…..

  • Not a bargain at all

    • I agree. I dislike companies being able to advertise here like this.
