  • $1750 for a Sony 60" LED TV? that's pretty cheap isn't it?

      You bet (you!) - $1996 at JB's.

Seems like a older model though. But the prices are pretty good.
I doubt it is Cost Price, their cost price is closer to around $500 I'd say.

yea, when it is straight out of Sony's manufacturer's door. On top of that, you need to factor in delivery, inventory, rent, labour cost and etc… Everything adds up to the price you normally pay for a TV. The profit margin for the TVs these days are pretty low.

          As linked below though.
Are you trying to say that VideoPro is selling very close to cost price EVERYDAY, how do they keep their business running by just $23 profit per TV?

Doesn't that make you suspect that although they say "Cost Price" it is really just bringing down the price from RRP to "Market Price".

        • That is if you live close to their warehouse. Delivery is $49.95 extra. To answer your question, it really depends on their cost base and their business model ( If Sony decides to sell everything online, the price will come down significantly)

"Yes, you can pick up from our warehouse or retail stores in Queensland"

      • I paid $1240 for the same tv at jb hifi a month ago.
So not sure it's that cheap.

    • It's alright. About 8 months ago I bought the exact same one for $2200 from jb with 5 years extended warranty. Without the warranty it was $2050 or something + free delivery.

I am always very skeptical when retailers have "cost" sales.

You never know how they work out the "cost" price. 99.9% of the time it certainly is'nt what they pay the manufacturer for the item. It always includes additons of delivery, rent, staff, advertising and other overheads and sometimes even includes a minimum profit margain.

Be wary and compare prices, don't think you'll get a steal cause its a "cost plus" sale.

    • agreed - best bargains are generally when the seller has to take a loss on the sale to get the stock out of the door, or is using loss-leaders to bring new customers in (in the hope that they'll make money off them on later transactions).

      • I find the best deal is not to be tempted by impulsive purchases (even at cheap prices) and later resell them at a loss (if you find no interest of keeping it). But it's hard to resist not to buy stuff when someone posted a good deal here. Our emotion will be affected by peers (thinking the stocks will be sold out fast) to triger the impulsive purchases.

  • Just a quick search

    Selling for $1773 from Videopro

So there price is not that much different from everyday price. And for those who looking for 3D, you will need to buy R550 instead. R520A is the same as R550 minus 3D function. This sale is so similar to the close down sale from Sony Prahran Shop not long ago.

    • Do many people actually use the 3d function in their TV's? (apart from the first and second day of use) I just can't imagine myself using it ever. This R520A looks quite appealing.

Apart from the occasional gaudy but fun Bluray? No. Not myself, at least.
