Nexus 7 2013 V2 32GB LTE - $439

140

Long time leecher, first time preacher…

Picked up the new nexus 7 LTE 32gb tablet today from MLN West Melbourne (other stores might not get stock until Monday).
Looks like it's $349US from the Google play store, which XE.com/ucc tells me is $391AU. Add GST and we get to $430, so I think $439 from a physical store is pretty good.

Posting this using it now. Can confirm it works on Telstra 4G.

Not sure if this is truly a deal as it's MLN's standard price, but might be of use to someone.

Ps. They don't have covers but there is a selection on eBay.

Not too bad for LTE; seriously smashes the iPad Mini

Aren't they around the same price though? I think the iPad Mini is still more expensive even though it was released last year.

      • Still the Apple 7" flagship on the market for another month perhaps ;)

      • It might not necessarily be a fair comparison, but saying that they can't be compared is a cop-out. They're the latest products from competing manufacturers, of course they'll be compared.

It's a fair comparison since they're the same budget range. The fact that the almost year old iPad Mini is still more expensive when it's clearly outclassed by the Nexus 7 V2 is quite concerning.. I'm embarrassed to think that the iPad Mini 2 will have a significantly higher price tag. It's no wonder they're declining in tablet/smartphone shares.

The fact that it's due for an imminent refresh grants it a bit of leniency, but you're right, the price is pretty damning in comparison. The difference is understandable, given the differing profit models, but Apple could try to be a bit more competitive.

yeah youre right. they are different generations.

the ipad mini has been using ipad 2 generation specs but with a very overpriced tag

but not very comparable, since ipad mini is still in a more expensive price range

      • don't know why all the negs. comment is fair - they are different generations.

apple devices may be expensive for what specs they provide compared to android devices. but truth can't be denied, they're expensive for a reason - the market.

go try find a new iPhone 4, couldn't find one for less than $300-400 (similar to the prices of the SGS3 - keeping in mind the iPhone 4 was made to contest the ORIGINAL Galaxy S in 2010).

not that I condone the high prices, I'd imagine it's just simply a combination of market supply/demand (apple with ios monopoly), brand recognition etc.

        • No one is disputing the fact that the hardware is from a different generation - it's just a ridiculous notion that the products shouldn't be compared based on this (especially considering the price of the Mini is greater, despite the older hardware). They're competing products and they will be compared, simple as that.

    • (and standard price)

To be somewhat fair, MLN was the first in the world to sell the LTE version it seems.

      • I think we are Ronnnie, Asus does use Australia as their test bed from a marketing point of view for the US. We do have stock and are receiving deliveries multiple times daily. Cannot guarantee for how long we will have stock for though as we are selling out really quickly each day. We do work very closely with Asus in both product development and other areas both in Aus and Taiwan. Proud to say we were one of the key influencers in the Asus G series notebooks when they first launched and helped develop them with their Research and development team in Taipai with other key global partners.

A customer pointed this thread out to us today.

        • any chance I could get a special birthday discount from MLN for my birthday gift? :)

    • Sorry I should have included that the West Melbourne store has stock. Will update the post.

  • I waited till 12am yesterday for the tiniest chance that they will release it on Google play…..no such luck…

  • Does anyone know if this model can be used to make phone calls just like the note 8 lte?

    • Officially? No.

Some enterprising developer probably can make it happen though, but no guarantees

It's great this is finally out here and is local stock, but when has rrp been considered a bargain?

  • Does Google play store charge GST if you're paying in US?

  • Not sure what you mean. Are you in the US when you buy, then no.
    Otherwise,

    Ie yes.

It would have been quicker for you to Google than ask…
