    $208 - CPU: Intel Core i5 4430
    $69 - MB : Asus H81M-E
    $79 - RAM: 8GB Kingston HyperX 1600MHZ
    $105 - SSD: SanDisk 128G Ultra Plus
    ~$69 - HDD: 1TB Toshiba 7200RPM
$19 - ODD: Samsung DVD Writer

    Total: $628 + assembly + shipping/pickup.

MSY don't stock Toshiba so I went for the price of a 1TB 7200rpm Seagate drive. StaticICE search shows prices to be similar anyway.

Decent bargain especially since there's an SSD included. I've got no idea about the price/performance of this particular SSD though (haven't heard much about it) so maybe someone else can comment. Computer should be good for general usage (no gaming), so things like word processing, Youtube etc. SSD only makes it snappier.

    • +2

The Sandisk Ultra Plus is fine for an SSD. It's fairly cheap with decent performance. Decent enough that you wouldn't notice the difference outside of benchmarks.

All in all this is a good build for someone who does a bit of home photo/video editing or something similar. It's a bit overkill for just youtube/web browsing/word processing, but obviously wouldn't be a bad choice for those tasks.

      • +3

Well for $579 + shipping, it's a whole lot more computer for what you'd get if you went to Bing Lee/Harvey Norman and picked up a pre-built. :)

It didn't occur to me that an i5 was enough for hobbyist/home photo/video editing, so kudos for picking that up. :P

    • I've got no idea about the price/performance of this particular SSD though (haven't heard much about it) so maybe someone else can comment.

Perfectly good competitor to the 840.

    • +1

Computer should be good for general usage (no gaming)

Actually, it's great for gaming if you just stick a GPU in it. (Lots of good graphics card deals recently, and there will be in the next couple of months with new models slated for release).

      • -1

Yeah but as it currently built with no GPU in it it's not good for gaming. If you chuck in a decent video card like a 760 you will have a beast of a games machine though.

  • just built myself a similar machine from MSY to use for an ESX test lab. This price is very good for a built system!

  • I might be in the market for a new PC. Was thinking of buying a Mac but they are $$$.

Can I get a decent gaming PC that I can also use for work at a good price and is good on power?

    • +3

Buy this, then buy a video card. Depending on Budget and games you want to play, maybe start by looking at a 650 Ti?

      • How much a good Vid Card?

Also how many core is this pc?

        • Define 'good'? From $100 you can get something pretty impressive these days. Or over $1K for a Titan.

This has a 4 core CPU.

        • +5

If you're wanting to play the latest games at high resolution & details, then you need to start at about $200 (eg, 7850 or GTX 660).

        • Would the PSU be adequate as mentioned below?
Edit: I see you responded below. I shall endeavour to refresh more often.

        • +1

Agreed, I have a 7850 paired with an Intel G2020 and it can play BF3 on ultra @ 1920x1080 (tiny stutter in big environments, but you can bet that's the CPU)

  • CPl can we makes some mods to this, eg more ram, bigger HDD etc?

  • +1

I have something very similar and it works great however if you want to upgrade it to a gaming machine you will need a new PSU as well ($50-$100).

    • +3

I don't think that "need" is accurate. That PSU is capable of handling a GPU as well. It's not ideal, but it's enough.

      • +1

Completely agree. Unless you want to put a really high end card in, this will do just fine.

      • +1

True however owning this model I know that the power is not balanced along the rails as efficiently as needed, the power supply only has one external 6 pin power source (2 needed for some mid to high cards) and even using Takius's calculator comes very close to the 500W limit. Add a few HD'd or charge your phone and you could start blowing fuses. Also this one is only about 57% efficient, so costing you a lot more over the long run.

        • … charge your phone and you could start blowing fuses.

Your phone is a drop in the ocean. And it won't start 'blowing fuses' from being overloaded.

Not to dismiss your other points, particularly the single 6 pin plug (though I have worked around this with a molex apdaptor before without any issues).

        • What specs are you using to get close to 500W in the calculator? Putting in the i5 4430 with a 7850 GPU, DVD-RW and single HDD only puts it at ~300W.

Yes, the PSU is inefficient (depending on load), although I'm not sure where you're getting 57% from. But either way, as I said, it's not ideal, but a replacement isn't necessary.

        • 500W should be ok for a mid range cpu + mid range graphics. So longs as you don't have 6 HDD in there for some ridiculous RAID setup. But 1 SSD + 1 HDD + 1 ODD should be ok if the PSU is of reasonable quality.

        • HDDs generally don't add much to the power requirements. When idling they typically use less than 5W.

    • +1

Tbh, I'm never quite sure what power supplies are actually needed. My system is built with an ancient (P4 era) 250w SFF PSU. With a power monitor on the power point it draws ~70w idle & 150w under load. Considering the graphics card alone is meant to draw 150w alone it always seemed odd.

      • +2

The reason is bad quality PSUs. You can stamp "500w" on a PSU that can't really sustain that kind of draw and no-one will stop you from selling it. That's why brand reputation is so important with PSUs.

So GPU manufacturers have to way overstate how much you need, to compensate.

        • +2

This. It is also why the 80+ certification is so important. Not only does it tell you the efficiency, it prevents the certified product from just making up imaginary power values.

      • +1

This site has a pretty handy PSU calculator for working out roughly how much power you'll need.

    Hi Rep
Do you have any bargain coming up on this

    CPU; Core i7 Quad core
    MB; PCI-E x32, 32GB+ RAM, Crossfire/SLI ability,…
    RAM; 1x8GB+
    SSD; 1x128GB+
    GPU; 1xGTX670+ or HD7870+
    PSU; 700W+

    • Hi Pal, please watch our Facebook and OZbargain page for updates. Thanks.

  • How much to add Win OS?

  • +1

$23.20 shipping by courier to Canberra if anyone interested in shipping prices.

I'd pull the trigger if it came with a much bigger storage hard drive and dedicated graphics card… rep any chance on a different bundle?

Plus vote for this deal though, good pricing!

  • Hi - Does this have 2 usb3 ports brought out to the front panel or just on the back ?

  • No, only from the back. Here is a link to the detail of the Mobo. http://www.asus.com/au/Motherboards/H81ME/

  • Hi rep, any deals for a gaming box around ~$1000? Keen to buy one this week

    • +3

      Get this, add video card?

    • +2

Buy this, and get one of these $300 HD 7950s:

      http://www.staticice.com.au/cgi-bin/search.cgi?q=hd+7950&spo…

Remember, once you have at least an i5 and 4GB or RAM, the most important component is the GPU (video card), put all your money into that.

      • Yea would be great if there's an upgrade option available, would love to upgrade the CPU to a i5 4570 and the addition of a GPU. Any chance of implementing this REP? Cheers

        • +7

I'll answer on behalf of the OP:
Email to [email protected], and they'll see what they can do. Thanks.

        • +2

It's really not that hard to buy them separately and insert the GPU yourself. Just google for instructions if you need them.

  • I'd buy if there was another option other than Paypal for credit card! Google Wallet?

  • Just out of curiosity, what's the lowest you could go for the deal without the SSD, rep?

  • Will this be compatible with GeForce GTX 670 GC?

    • Don't see any reason why not.

Google the motherboard (Asus H81M-E) and make sure it has a PCI Express slot? The PSU is fine.

    • Yes. Only issue could possibly be if the card doesn't fit in the case.

    • Thank you!

  • Hi there,

How much would this cost if I want the harddrive and SSDs taken out of it?

    Thanks

    • Wanting to know this too please!

      • +3

        On behalf of the rep:
Email to [email protected], see what we can do. Thanks.

just like the three answers above lol

      • They wont be able to do any build tests without an ssd or hdd, bit risky for them to do this…

        • +1

It's not hard to test via a USB key with linux installed.

  • "Delivery - Courier
    Fastway - SA(RED) $25.70"

Does that shipping have any insurance? Thanks.

    • It includes insurance for lost parcel. Thanks.

      • +1

Only lost parcel not "Damaged" parcel?

  • Does this come with windows OS?

    • I would assume based on their previous deals that no it would not.

    • No, it comes with no OS.

      • Which is good news. CPL can sell you an OEM copy of Windows for ~$100 if you like, or you can use your own or obtain one from somewhere like EBAY….

  • Hi rep, any chance of upgrading the CPU to a i5 4570?

    • +3

      and again, for the OP
Email to [email protected], see what we can do. Thanks.

      • +3

        Thanks richox ;p

  • +5

well done, always leave the GPU option to the customer, they'll know what they want or they will have time to research and choose the right card for their game.

    • they'll know what they want or they will have time to research and choose the right card for their game

Actually in my experience the majority of customers (including gamers) don't actually know what they want and don't know how to research it either. However, on this site I'd expect most would be capable of finding out or asking someone.

      • +2

This is true, but picking something to include with it is either going to:

        • Not help because they don't know if it is what they want

        Or:

        • Not help because it is not what they think they want.
        • Well, I'd say the majority of customers don't even know that they need to consider the GPU, and hence if you just pick something they'll be none-the-wiser about whether it suits their needs.

FWIW, I also prefer it this way, just pointing out that it's not necessarily better for the majority of customers.

        • Maybe OP should put a recommended GPU or an optional GPU installation :)

        • it's really hard to even list out options as there are a ton of models and there's the AMD vs Nvidia perception, it just makes the ordering and invoicing that much more complicated

      • +1

        Just send them www.logicalincrements.com lol

  • How many USB 3.0 ports for this case? I keep reading sources that say 1 or 2.

  • Hi Rep, I'm looking to buy another computer very soon. Progs to be used are Corel Draw, Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign etc and to work photos to create DVD slideshow with sound track using a package for wedding shoots etc. Quite often have photoshop and corel x4 open at the same time as the internet. Any suggestions? Oh and I will need an operating system. Thank you.

    • +1

This system would be appropriate. Just buy an OEM copy of Windows and install it yourself when you receive it.

  • +1

It's ok for the Rep to point enquiries to their email address - but they don't reply in a timely manner.
I sent a query about Ram configuration (2x4 or 1x8)and upgrade cost just before lunchtime and still no response.
I imagine they are busy but would have thought they would anticipate such questions when posting the deal.
Really keen on this system but would love to be able to tweak ram and add wifi..
May just have to purchase and try negotiate with them after or buy teh parts locally and do it myself.

    • Sorry for the delay, we received too many emails and each individual one needs customized quote. We are busy processing all the requests, all emails will be replied today.

      • Manay005… What are you expecting?

If you want them to run a business and keep an answer time of 5 minutes on all enquiries during all retail periods, they are inevitably going to have to employ more people around the clock, which will result in higher prices for you as a customer. I have no issue with people posting valid complaints, but try to think a bit more before you make one like the above.

cplonline, thanks for taking the time to answer these custom orders during your busiest periods… which we thank you for initiating to begin with, because you are substantially cheaper than your competition.

        • Well think of it this way. If they pay someone $50 an hour for their Monday deals to answer just 5 potential customers. That's like $500 they have to pay the worker vs $2500+ they could potentially make. And I exaggerated the worker's pay and reduced the amount of potential customers just to further highlight the differences. If they can't respond to these potential customers, then that's CPL's loss they easily could've avoided.

        • +2

Have a think about your scenario with the added knowledge that revenue is not the same as profit :-)

        • Yeah, you're right I guess. Can't believe I didn't factor that in. Not sure what the net profit from each sale would be. I think if we made the scenario more realistic, CPL would still make a profit + increase their reputation which is worth a lot these days.

      • Understand what you are saying - but why set yourself up for failure? Given 80% of the customisations would likley be for RAM and GPU, if they are willing to offer customisation them why not list say one or two choices or a price guide. If you ask for people to email you and the deal is for today only it would be reasonable to expect you would get a response within a few hours. I appreciate that they have responded and they are obviously doing the best they can.

Either way I have just placed an order now as leaving work and the enquiry was from my work email address so dont want to risk missing which as you point out is a great deal.

I will email CPL later at home in the hope to get an answer and possibly pay extra for the minor upgrades if possible - if not I can live with teh standard system and just buy the add ons later.

  • +1

Be warned I have this case and the top allows a lot of dust to come into the system I recommend people to get a filter or some kind of breathable material to block the dust.

    • Hey, thanks for the insight. I'm sort of interested in this particular case. Could you tell me how many USB 3.0 ports are on the case?

      • +1

2 on the front and 2 on the back.

  • OP, Can I order then pick it up?

    (quite close to the store)

  • Got my quote emails very late (came after 7.30pm but saw it after 9pm), they must have stayed behind.
Paid for 2 based on the adjusted quotes I got, paid by DD at around 9.40pm so hopefully will still go through as I my quotes did say valid for 24 hrs!

Thanks CPL, Good timing on a good deal.

  • Great deal …. pity I saw this too late

  • great deal - whens the next one coming up as I only saw it this morning and its expired!!!

  • +1

Its a good PRE-BUILT system if you want to customise your own PC try building one through msy or umart. It will be a good learning experience for you :)
