  • Nice to have a choice of provider now.

  • Related item: Woolworths is still offering a $50 petrol card for people chasing comprehensive or TPP insurance. For my (old) vehicle they were also about $80 cheaper than other providers (I tried AAMI, Coles, GIO, NRMA, and a couple of others) for the same level of insurance.

  • Tried finding this info when choice of provider came in and couldn't find any info about the promotion on the Web site. How silly to end the promotion just a couple of months after CTPI choice has come in. Wouldn't you think they would run it for 12 months given many regos are 12 months so everyone has the incentive to join them instead of only those whose rego chances to renew in this narrow window. I would love to consider my provider options but don't get that opportunity for another few months. Maybe another insurer may more interested in establishing a customer base? From what I could see, most of the providers are owned by the same parent anyway.

  • Where do those of you live who have not always had a choice? I can't remember ever NOT having a choice.

    • Since 1979 NRMA has been the sole provider of CTP insurance in the ACT. As of July, they now have 4 (well 2 really, NRMA and Suncorp).

    • Many States. When I lived in SA the CTP was done through your rego and there was only one provider. Same with the ACT when I moved here in 2009.

From my NSW experience, choice of provider always seems to cost more (as they were no longer tendering to the lowest price) and was annoying as you had to go pay for the CTP then pay the rego.

At least with the new ACT choice thing (which I paid my 12 months last week so this promo is too late for me) at least you just select who you want to go with as part of the rego process and obviously most people will just choose the cheapest option (which is NRMA).

  • +1

If you're eligable you can get $75 back with APIA: http://www.apia.com.au/apia-now-offering-act-motorists-ctp-c…

    • An even better deal $ wise although GIO offers "additional at fault driver cover" which appears well worth the $19 difference: http://www.gio.com.au/sites/default/files/fm/pdf/ctp_booklet…

      APIA $522.20 (with $75 rebate)
      GIO $541.20 (with $50 rebate)
      AAMI $549.20 (with $50 rebate)
      NRMA $579.20 (no rebate)
