  • I bought one from OW - same price as Coles….unlocked it easily with BagMan (thank you) I seem to have a problem with the volume (ie no-one can hear me unless I have speakerphone on). Has anyone had an issue like this one?? I have fiddled around with settings, but cannot seem to find out what is wrong - hate to have to take it back (unlocked already!) and then re-load everything I have onto another phone… any ideas?

    thanks

    • first you need to find out if its a software/hardware issue then go from there.

      • yes, there lies my problem - but I think that kirt has sorted it for me :) - thanks for your support

        • :)

OMG - I had the exact same problem. Tried everything like factory reset, disabling the dual mic thing via the engineering menu etc - no go.

Was just about to take it back, and decided to (gently) take to the mic hole with a pin…worked like a charm.

Will be further testing to make sure it is completely sorted, but people can hear me now, and voice recording works now too :)

thank you so much kirt - you have saved me a lot of messing about with it - I was thinking about the whole re-set thing, and then wondering if this would also re-set my 'unlock' thing so I would have to also do that all over again…. I shall try with a soft brush first and if that doesnt work, will try a pin…apart from that I really like this phone - esp for the price - you have been
        so much help thank you

No worries…let us know how you go ;)

For the record, the batch number on the box for my phone is SK009677.

        • thanks kirt - I just tried a soft brush - no good. I tried a pin - but am a little afraid as to how much I ought to be poking around (they may not replace it if they see there are pin holes in it etc) - I have a question - just how far did you poke the pin…? I made 2 small pin holes and it seems a little better but still very very muffled - did you poke the whole cloth thingy until the speaker was exposed?? any help is good. my batch number is SK009676 - I wonder….

        • just saw this - I may try it - not sure if the model number will make a difference though. Im a bit concerned at trying tings like this as I dont understand egggsactly what Im doing….called OW - they will take it back it I want (or refund or something else - if I do I will hek batch numbers and try to get a different one)

this is the thing that Im concerned about trying….

Just to be clear, the mic hole is the tiny round hole at the bottom on the front of the phone, just below the Home button.

When you mention "cloth thingy" and "speaker", it sounds like you are poking the front earpiece or the rear speaker?

Edit: …and I think there is a second mic on the back near the earphone jack?

I didn't touch that one though.

        • initially, I though it was, ten I looked at an online picture of where the mic is and it showed it was on the back- so that is the clothy thing I referred to…so I stuck a pin in the one you mentioned and it comes and goes, so I need to do it further and hopefully it will stay good….getting there - and your help and support has been great - thank you
PS I still; may take it back and get one that doesnt have all this stuff to deal with…but am learning lots on the way

          No worries.

Yeah - I will see how my goes and swap for a new one if it is inconsistent or stops working again.

So I ended up taking it back to OW - stopped in at Coles on the way and looked at their batch numbers (different to your and to mine) - but Coles refund policy for this phone is that if you have a problem, you have to take it up with Telstra (not uch fun if you have used an online unlock code I imagine!).
I looked at the batch numbers on the rest of the OW phones (they only had 3 more at Elsternwick, Vic) and they are the same batch number as mine, so I got a refund. I called OW in Adelaide (will be there next week) & their batch numbers were the same (as my sick phone) also, so not sure what to do next..try calling other OW while Im in Melbourne perhaps - its starting to get tedious tho (and of course I dont those batch numbers are sick)…..guess I may have to fork out more than $40for my next smart-phone.. :)

        • Cheers for the follow up MishyMoo ;)

Mine seems fine now…time will tell I guess!

        • Got a new one from Coles - working well - no probs - a different person at Coles told me that they would take it back if I have a problem (previous Coles person said I would have to go through Telstra…very happy now :) can hardly believe that a $40 phone does all this

  • Picked up one from Southland Vic. Used it to make up my general shop to get the fuel voucher. Also used the triple flybuys points offer for this week, so I wonder if that counts.

  • Does this phone ever restart randomly for anyone?
Sometimes I will be using it and it will just restart all a sudden…

    • I have had mine reboot once in the 2 weeks I have had it.

It happened after I had installed about 10 apps at once, and I wasn't certain if I had pressed the power button to make it reboot, or thought it might have something to do with one of those apps.

I have it set to request a sim pin, so I know when it has rebooted…will keep my eye on it.

      • I had mine reboot about 3 times but I have had it for longer than 2 weeks.

One time it happened when I was in Whatsapp and the screen turned off to save power and I turned it back on quickly and it rebooted.

Is there any Android or firmware updates for this phone? I had a look at the Huawei site but I can't see any.

        • I've been using mine for tethering. Also had about three random reboots. Also has to be said that I've had every one of the multiple Android devices I've owned randomly restart from time to time.
Gut says that it is going be a somewhat more frequent issue with this particular Huawei.

No firmware updates available for this, but there is at least one non-stock rom option out there. Comments relating, elsewhere on OzBargain.
As a rule, though - even when great stability is claimed - expect more, not less, random reboot issues with non-stock rom builds.

        • I suppose I will have to live with it… It is quite annoying.
