Vodafone currently have the Nokia Lumia 720, in white only, as a prepaid outright for $199.

I picked up one today and have entered the IMEI into Vodafone's unlock site with the result:

Nokia 720

This device is not network locked by Vodafone Australia.

Edit: For those in Perth; Claremont, Garden City and Perth Piccadilly Arcade didn't have stock, got it from Perth London Court, don't know about Perth near Target.

did you try with a different sim?

My mistake, thanks aussman & mank

12% cashback too using one of the providers - so around $20 more off (usually given on the ex-GST price).

      How can I get this?

    • How do u get $20 cash back on $199 deal for this phone

    • Quibble and StartHere have been around for ages. I've used StartHere for successful redemptions before.

I do use a separate browser to make sure it doesn't track cookies that aren't my own and it may take a few weeks/months but you do get it. They used to take the first $10 of your payment as a once-yearly payment, so just keep an eye out for any fees or minimum withdrawals.

At That price I would get the Htc 8x it has a 720p display and 1.4 ghz dual core.

    • +3

It's a good deal at that price, but it misses all the good Nokia apps, and battery life is much worse.

      • Also misses wireless charging option.

  • has anyone tried another network simcard on this phone to see if it unlocked
    very interested at this price

  • +1

I caught up with a friend tonight and tried his Optus simcard in the 720 and it worked fine.

So, the one I bought certainly seems to be unlocked.

    • Hi Mank, can you check your 720 if it has multi language support.eg. Chinese language .
      Thanks.

  • If this device is branded by Vodafone, and it probably is, then that's a problem. The reason is Vodafone have not yet approved the Nokia Amber update.
    http://www.nokia.com/global/support/software-update/wp8-soft…
Who knows if or when Vodafone will get their act together?

  • Anyone know if 720 support multi language ? I'd like buy one and give to friend who only knows Chinese.
    Thanks

    • Yeah, it certainly looks like it.

Under Settings, you can select 'language+region' and then there's a heap of languages and countries to select from. I think the last four languages are Korean, Mandarin, Cantonese and Japanese going by the symbols.

  • Sorry if this is a bit off-topic. Say, I got this Lumia 720, then I go overseas and use a simcard from a different network provider, say a Japanese company (DoKoMo for example). If this is the case, who's responsible for pushing any future software updates? Does Nokia (and any other phone manufacturers like Samsung or HTC) have OTA update arrangements with all major telcos all over the world?

    • +2

The update channel would be reliant on the original carrier - so in this case Vodafone. That's irrespective of whichever SIM card is in it.

So if Voda push out an OTA update, you will get it wherever you are. You can try and flash to a generic ROM to get updates earlier, but that isn't always the case and it's probably best to stick to the official path.

      • Thanks buddy~

Got mine delivered today. Unlocked and impressive for $199.

  • Got mine too, awesome device wow. I feel sorry for people still using laggy, complicated and fragmented android devices. This Lumia 720 is light, thin and powerful.

  • guys how long did it take to get this device delivered to your door step

    • ordered Friday received Tuesday morning.

      • Mine was shipped Saturday and I got it Monday morning I think it was expressed out too me, couldn't be any happier with vodafone's service.

    • Same for me; ordered Friday arrived Brisbane suburb Tuesday AM. It is Unlocked.

  • Amber update now available according to Nokia

NFC on WP largely crippled, as WP doesn't allow tags to change settings e.g turn bluetooth on.

Disappointing and a deal breaker for me. Just discovered this, so will return mine.

  • Nokia Lumia handsets purchased from Vodafone have a warranty from Nokia of only one year. The warranty for the second year is at the discretion of Vodafone, so I doubt you'll get that second year if you are not a Vodafone customer.

    • +1

To get the second year you must have an active Prepaid Service that has been recharged more than 2 times in previous 4 months or have active credit (in case of 356 day plans )

  • Still $199 in store at Vodafone's Pacific Fair store on the GC.

  • Out of stock at the Robina and Pacific Fair stores but I ordered a 720 online this afternoon.

NFC and a fast lens appeals to me much.

  • Mine arrived today-after ordering it on Tuesday. I can confirm mine is unlocked-entered the IMEI into unlock.vodafone.com.au and said it was unlocked.

Came with a SIM pack with a mini-SIM with a push out micro-SIM.

    • Ordered mine Tuesday also (1am) but still shows as processing, rang to ask what's happening and was told 'yes there's stock in the warehouse and your order should be sent out in 24-48hrs'

So it looks like my 720 wont be sent out until next week :-(
