  Note, these prices are only the front screen glass not the LCD. You can buy original complete LCD+ digitizer for ipod 4th gen on ebay for $30 delivered and do it yourself.

    wouldn't it be better off to just replace the front screen glass?

    It would be difficult to do it yourself without replacing the LCD+digitizer kit. And the LCD comes with the $30 kit from eBay generally is not as good as the original one came with the phone.

    I did that, but the ebay screen and digitizer combo don't seem to be of high quality. 3 months after replacing the screen, my screen now has every 2nd line missing, changing apps leaves a halo of the old one still visible and gradually loosing more and more colour.

    I'd like to know where to get one that is good quality, is located in Sydney somewhere and a decent price.

      did you replace the kit or just the screen? it wouldn't be too difficult to replace the kit. any tips on separating the digitizer from the LCD, if you have done it.

        The $35 kit I bought included everything, glass and digitizer. I opted for this option because of the same dilemma you're talking about, how hard it would be to separate the glass from digitizer.

        While I was pulling it apart (iphone 4), it actually turned out to be quite simple to just break the glass off once the glass is broken (which was why I was replacing it), I think it would be hard to replace the glass without breaking the glass if that makes sense.

        I'd suggest giving it a go just replacing the glass because the cheap chinese digitizers haven't done me any favours.

        i think iphone4 is different from 4s, the 4s one has the screen glued on the LCD and it is nearly impossible to separate the two.

        Will find out how are they going to do it.

        I think iphone 4 & 4s are the same.

        I was reading though about how for some reason white iphone is easier to separate the glass.

        Does anybody know how they stick the glass back on in this repair shop?

        I think there is 2 method
        1) cheap way = double sided tape
        2) original way = LOCA (UV glue) This is the only way for iphone 5 and galaxy 3/4 which is why that is much more expensive?

        Can anybody comment on if the double sided tape method is reliable? eg. does it separate after a few months?

        sticking it back would be a challenge as well as separating them. i guess you may have to keep it dust and bubble free.

        i would go with the double sided tape solution since it wouldn't be easy to apply the LOCA UV glue evenly on it.

        Wonder if you have the how to/step by step/tips to separating the glass and lcd?

        pretty good but it does appear to be a lot of work.

        Actually I went to the store in this bargain today and asked them what they do.
        They told me they actually just replace the whole LCD unit.

        Pretty dodgy as they say they only replace the glass and actually say they charge $20 more if the LCD is damaged.
        They should charge less if the LCD is not damaged because they are taking your original apple LCD and giving you a cheapo ebay $20 one.

        So its a pretty easy repair that you can do yourself and they're charging you $20 odd dollars for it. Not a horrible price but not an honest description.

        Oh and the LOCA glue, actually looks pretty easy, I would think easier than double sided tape and 100% original. Only problem is LOCA glue is expensive and you also need a UV light to cure it.
