Summer Textile Motorbike Jacket $99 + Shipping

10

Thought I'd share this one as it's on sale for the next wee while. That and the fact that there's not many motorbike related sales posted usually :-)

Summer weight textile motorbike jacket from Bikers Gear Australia. Usually $139, is currently $99 + shipping ($20 to QLD 4017).

A mate of mine has this and uses it for his daily commute in spring with the liner in, and without the lining in summer. Apparently not very waterproof though.

  • Is it no name brand or something? Can't seem to find much info on it.

    • In comparison to DriRider, Joe Rocket etc, yes it's a relatively no name brand.

    • that's not a bad price for leather! Is the liner removable? Else I'd probably boil in it during summer.

  • Damn that's a good price for the leather jacket.. Shame I just paid a Grand of my credit card so can't afford it now :(

    • That's what the credit card is for ;) lol

      • kinda, I reduced the limit cause I was spending to much, so don't have access to any :(

  • +1

Beware with noname jackets though! It's probably the same quality as Aldi $99 jacket which is kind of okay but nowhere near a real, well made bike jacket. Look around online for better price/value gear.
I'd get one of these (in the budget range): http://www.revzilla.com/motorcycle/speed-strength-twist-of-f…

As far as leather goes, even the fully perforated ones will be way too warm in the summer. Non-perforated ones would kill more people than the road itself :)

    • What's wrong with the Aldi one? I bought one but don't have a motorbike yet (just got the licence) and it seems pretty sturdy in terms of protection. Is it just the breathability and comfort aspects that aren't as good?

      • If you crash, you have to fight two problems:

        • Hitting an object/another vehicle: in this case practically nothing would save you, serious injuries are almost guaranteed. Very sturdy full body leather with full protectors (including hip, knee, shin, chest, collar bone…) can help somewhat but as the deceleration is too high it's not a silver bullet.

        • Sliding on the asphalt: depending on your gear, the protection literally wears off. Usually thick leather (1mm+) can handle it, textile jackets and jeans wear off, exposing your skin. The problem with cheap textile jackets is that they literally melt exposing your skin quickly and even melting into the wound. I'm afraid Aldi jacket may fall into the latter category.

        • You're talking about the leather one from Aldi a month ago? Because that one seemed to be 1mm thick buffalo leather and felt very sturdy to me. It also had reinforcements around the back. Maybe you were referring to a textile one? The leather Aldi one really seemed like a really good bargain and felt really good quality. It does limit the movement of your body a bit, but that probably helps with protection.

        • Agree with the point about the impact.
But as most say, its the slide that you dress for. And although my off wasn't all that fast, the jacket held up well. The jeans not so much, and as they don't have armour and their kevlar section didn't sit right on a short fatty like me.

I don't have any personal experience with coming off with this jacket, and I hope not to, and my mate hasn't come off on it either so I can't really say if it will or will not work well enough.

    • I've low-sided with the Aldi jacket at around 40ks and that held up well. I'm still able to wear it as it hasn't come apart, but its getting too hot to wear it in Brissy.

That jacket on revzilla looks like a good deal. How is it to wear in mid-30s weather?

Just be careful with leather guys. You need to make sure you are buying top grain leather, not split. A lot of jacket makers are using split leather in cheaper jackets i.e. $100 on ebay.

  • I'm gonna buy one of these - http://www.racingleatherjackets.com/Honda-racing-motorcycle-…
I know someone that has one and came off on the track and it held up fine (although he needed a new one after).

    • uhh, this site looks really dodgy… are you affiliated?
BTW, here are two really important parameters of the jacket you mentioned:

      YKK zipper

      Great Buy

      Sounds very promising*!

      .* - not

    • Woah, that's cheap. If only I was after leathers…

  • Nah not affiliated. They are in India I believe.
