Western Digital USB2.0 3.5" 2TB Elements $85 @ MSY & CentreCom

60

Needed some extra storage and noticed these great deals.

I guess take your pick and goto which ever store is closer.

The deal is for an 'external' USB2.0 + powered drive, but you can simply pull them out of the enclosure if you want to use them internally or with docks.

It's quite strange considering the 'Internal' drives themselves cost $94 alone. I've already pulled my drives out of the enclosures and can confirm it's a Western Digital Green EARX 64MB cache drive inside.

Enjoy!

Great price but shame it's only USB 2.0

  • I believe warranty is gone as soon as you open them though correct? On the enclosure AND on the drive itself?

The little extra is worth it to some for a full a warranty.

    • i've checked the serial number from the drive on the WD site and it registers with 3 years warranty. I can easily pop them back in the enclosure for warranty.

  • can op please confirm, I assume because it's a green drive its 5400 rpm. Can you tell which model?

  • "Because of their lower power usage and other features, Caviar Green drives spin at a rate slower than the desktop standard of 7,200rpm" I could not find a spin rate, all is listed under that on the spec sheet is "IntelliPower"… Any other info?

  • I bought the same model about 2 months ago. The drive model is WD20EARX-00PASB0. 5400 rpm.

A03 has this for $77 +16.20 delivery bringing total to $93.20.

    • And how, exactly, is $93.20 less than $85?

    • lol

    • You're not very good at this are you?

Might have considered if it was USB 3.0. Moving large files on 2.0 is just painful.

As with most other magnetic external drives, you will max out the chipset bandwidth before you max out the USB 2.0 bandwidth. Just pull out the drive and use a eSATA dock if speeds matter that much.

I've got USB 3.0 drives that have transfer speeds slower than the 480mbps that USB 2.0 can provide.
